She gave more value to what already was valuable.

The first time I saw this video, I got the impression that she was listening to words, perhaps from a diary page she had written, put to music. But that's almost certainly not the case. However, in this context, her reaction seems to be purely natural that someone got to the root-feeling of important moments in her life. R.E.M. blessed the world with a 32-year career of music, thoughts, feelings and hopes that inspired people to search themselves for their inner-most being . . . Call it a soul, or a tangible one-ness with other souls. You actually "grow" younger as you "get" older listening to their music. No other band has done this quite so effectively as R.E.M.

Come on REM, made new concert in small village around Italy without a lot of publicity. Those one lucky that will find you will be happy for the rest of their life. You still have something to donate in the music world.

I watched an interview with her where she said it was filmed in Stipe's apartment(which is next to hers) and he was singing to her.

I startted following this band in Athens in 81 before they became famous and still have that original release of "Radio Free Europe" on a 45 single. Thanks for some great music gents and a great final video.

Their last 2 CD's have bee some of the best for a while. It's a shame they decided to call it a day now.

R.E.M. what can you say about them, l have followed them most of my adult life, those years l didn't, it's cuz l'm so much older than them and they were in maybe junior high. Thank you always, this is a beautiful way to say it's been awesome !! Oh, and btw, Kirsten Dunst was a perfectly stunning choice. She didn't overpower the song as she could very well have, she's perfection in human form. She didn't though, she was just herself and the combination made me cry....

I love this; it's such a human moment with Kirsten Dunst -- a genuine human, despite her celebrity status (which sometimes makes her [and all celebrities] feel superhuman and distant). I think maybe this was the hardest role she's ever had to play; just sitting there for 3:38 listening to a song silently with a bunch of people looking at her. I love how honest and true her reactions and expressions are in this; you can feel how she's feeling (and it's largely how YOU would be feeling if you were in the same situation). She's not acting, even though I'm sure it would have made the whole experience a lot easier if she had been (for instance, acting as if she were really stoic or in love, or whatever feeling she might want to conjure up on her face.) She's a great actress I'm sure she would have no problem going somewhere else for 3.5 minutes to make herself feel less awkward, but instead, she stayed with us and was just there. And it's kind of awkward until you just let yourself be present, which she does around 2:32. It's like when you have to really look into a stranger's eyes across the room in a yoga class. Awkward unless you just let yourself be present. And then when you become present and let go of thinking about yourself, and thinking about what the other person is thinking, and you allow yourself to just be there for 3 minutes -- it's really special. I really think videos like this are truly art; it makes you *FEEL* something. *Isn't that what art is all about?* I guess (according to ***** in the KZfaq comments below, this is R.E.M.'s final single and Michael Stipe wanted the music video to be a quite video with a nice face. It's very REM. Very memorable. Even if you hated it -- it still made you feel something and you still remember it. Glad I stumble upon this today. #REM

Every time I listen to this I have shivers but also depresing thoughts that R.E.M is no more 4ever. Sometimes I do forget about them and it's ok, but sometimes it's hard...like when I ride my car and some asshole turn on R.E.M in radio station and in 1 sec I have wet eyes. I had no chance to see them on stage and I won't have. Life is shit, pick your favourite band, buy all their albums and after 3 years of listening all day long to their music get this info "we're done".
