I picked one up off of gunbroker, according to the guy who I got it from he bought it new and over 15 years had less than a box of shells through it. He's like so its pretty much new. He wasn't lying hardly anything wrong with it and the one I got goes to a 3.5 in shell. I have had success with it out pheasant hunting and shot some of my best trap scores ever with it, my highest being 44/50 from the 16 and 23 yard line. love this gun and the wood hardware

My first auto bought in 1988. I liked the remmi to shoot as it was so smooth but struggled with cycling the early 1oz loads and I eventually moved it on for a Beretta 303 as designed by Brian Hebditch. But I've some great memories with the 1187 including a first duck and a couple of little trophies at clay shoots. Re the weight of the barrels, they did make a lighter one which a mate of mine bought called the lcb (light contour barrel) and it livened up the handling a fair bit. Thanks for the gun shorts Lloyd👍🌈

Yep, towards the end the 11-87 morphed into the semi-auto counterpart to the utilitarian 870 Special Purpose and Express. The belle of the ball mantel shifted back to the 1100 as it persisted in the clay shooting roles, probably because its simpler gas system was satisfactory for target rounds. Lloyd, you ought to get a spacer and new pad fitted, so you can take the old girl out for a date once in a while. ;-) A nice thick Cervellati Microcell plus spacer might not even weigh more than the current pad.

Thanks for the video Lloyd. The 1187 and earlier 1100 share roughly 90% of their parts. I had an 1187 Special Purpose as my first clays gun. I bought it used as it was the only variant I could afford at the time. The SP was Remington's waterfowl version of the gun and as a result it had a matted finish and a heavier barrel. The gun served me well for several seasons until I moved to a decent O/U and it eventually went down the road after digesting well over 30,000 rounds. The tolerances of that shotgun must've been right in the middle of the range because in all the time I owned it I can count on both hands the number of malfunctions. It also digested everything from 24gm International loads up to 3 inch steel waterfowl loads in all weather. One of the strengths of the 870, 1100, 1187 guns is that because they've all been around for so many years parts are everywhere for them. Stock too low? No problem there's Sporting, Trap and even Adjustable stocks available. Also at least on this side of the pond it's easy to find people that can work on them if ever needed. Thanks again for featuring one of my favorite shotguns!

I'm in the US. I have a 20 gauge 1187 Sportsman field that I purchased new. Basically the same as the Premier other than 26" barrel, Satin walnut stocks and matt black finish on the metal. A great field gun that's taken lots of Dove, rabbit and quail. The gun was "tight" when new and had a few issues with certain brand shells sticking in the chamber, however cleaning it after each use and shooting the heck out of it, resolved itself on it's own. Without doubt my favorite shotgun!

Really nice video Lloyd. There is something quite satisfying in getting an older object no matter what it is and giving it some care, perhaps restoring it then making the odd tweak to make an improvement. I've always thought about getting an old Beretta Ultralight in well used condition and taking some time to restore it then using it on walked up days. One day... Keep up the good work, its much appreciated by us all.

Just FYI I have been shooting Trap with a 11-87 since It was new in 1989 and it has had untold rounds through it and it has had Zero Parts Breakage. I clean it every time I shoot it and replace action spring when it is shorter than 14 1/2 inches. I have Won Trap league with it for a Singles score of 248x250. All I have for Trap Skeet and Hunting is Remington Auto’s for 45 years. I am thinking about getting a Beretta 694 Sporting for Trap Doubles as two chokes is a advantage.

I love how all the European reviewers hate/laugh on the American made 1100/1187...Respect should be paid where Respect is due. The 1100 is the standard to which ALL Semi-Auto's have been measured from. Even early Browning A5 owners would say the 1100 is a superior design...and they don't jam.. They last forever if you take care of them. No rise in the barrels, soft shooting and sleek to hold. When steel shot came in, that was they're demise for Waterfowlers..

Opinion, I have a 77 model 1100 12 gauge magnum. 30" barrel, fixed full choke. Was carried a lot but not shot a lot deer hunting. I no longer hunt but shoot Clay's. The price of barrels is ridiculous. I could reasonably priced have my barrel threaded for choke tubes. As well as modified to cycle light shells. I don't want to destroy the value of the gun and it does have sentimental value to me. Belonged to my father in law who hunted with it for thirty years. But its unusable to me the way it is. Interested in people's thoughts.

@@lloydyp never thought of that. My bigger concern is changing the gas port or more likely drilling another. Being a magnum reciever and barrel it absolutely will not cycle low brass shells. The extra weight with the majority of 1187 barrels is due to the changes in the gas system on the barrel as well as some extra material at the muzzle end to fit the Remchoke system. There are some 1187 barrels that are physically heavier than the typical 1100 barrel. The SP series that was designed for waterfowl have a thicker full profile contour, the slug barrels, and the Police Magnum model barrels are all heavier than a typical 1100 barrel. Barrels on the competition guns typically have the light contour as well as a lighter barrel hanger to be similar to the 1100 shotguns. The lighter barrel hanger doesn't have the self compensating gas system so those are limited to 23/4 shells. Hope this helps.

They have a light contour model. The barrel is slightly thinner in the middle. Does not affect quality ,just makes the gun a few ounces lighter for trap shooting.Takes a light contour forend.

You said you can buy the 1187 Premier for 200 Quid? That converts to $261 USD - I'd like to know where anyone can buy a good used Remington 1187 Premier for $261. I think average used is around $800

I can't post links but if you google remington 1100 or 1187 in the UK as I just did, you will find examples starting at one hundred and fifty pounds sterling in the UK.

@@lloydyp Ok i misunderstood. I live in Texas USA. Guns are generally more expensive in the states. Now im wondering about import laws!! Lol. A man could make a pile of $$$ buying and selling at that price difference. I gave much more than $261 for my 1187 Premiere.

I think one part is missing over there. It should be on top of gas cylinder.

The Winchester Super X1 is a completely different animal. I've owned both 1100's, 1187's and Super X1. As much as I like my Remington shotguns the Super is in a higher class in every way.
