I have a Winchester 1917. Hits about a foot high with battle sights. If I use my flip up slide and lower the peep all the way down till it bottoms out in right on at 100 yards. Mine will shoot about a half inch low and half inch left at 100 yards all the way down. I tried three diff ent random hand loads in it and they all shot sub MOA at 100 yards. It’s a tac driver!

Pickup truck beds make a great rifle rest & brass catcher!!! Nice video. Bambi beware!

Great video. Great rifle. Great humble attitude. My favorite part of the video is the very end, where it says, "Appeal to heaven". That's the most important part! God bless you, man. I pray you get your biggest buck yet with that beautiful gun!

The 1917 is a very handsome rifle. They used high quality walnut to make the stock. I have one example also made by Remington in 1918 that the stock has a deep dark walnut color. I think it's what they called "North American black walnut". The wood is strong and hard, and dense. That certainly contributed to the rifle's weight. You can use it to make high end furniture. I love this wood better than any European walnut with fancy figures.

The best Enfield ever made if I do say so myself, and the 1903 is the best mauser ever made, both in a cartridge the cartridge of 30-06 one of if not the best general purpose cartridges ever made, what's not to love.

I’m really not a fan of the sights on the 1903. For whatever reason the 98k has a better sight picture for me. If the 1903 had the same sights as the 1917 it would easily be my favorite bolt action rifle.

@@redbarronreviews2429 so are you gonna be hunting whitetail or mule deer this season?

@@georgewashington7312 whitetail. We do have mule deer but they’re not prevalent in my area.

@@redbarronreviews2429 Do you re-load/ handload? Factory ammo is perfectly fine though, but 30-06 is so versatile especially for reloaders.

@@georgewashington7312 I never have. I inherited the equipment to but I haven’t had the inclination to mess with it just yet. I’ve got a lot of 7.5 French brass and I save all of my brass anyways. Some day when I have more time I intend to learn.

Great rifle and great video. Spot on, you’d need to have an accurate and capable rifle for ethical hunting, and as well know its limitations 👍🏼

I have an Eddystone M1917 and it’s pretty much the same as yours. I noticed that it shot about 2-2.5 MOA with HEAVY projectiles. 170-180gr loads were best with this rifle for me so try that and see how it goes

Thank you! I’ll give that a try when I get around to reloading. I’ve got all of the stuff to do it, just never gotten around to it.

@@redbarronreviews2429 also remember for sighting process, Front-Same, Rear-Opposite. If you shot right push the blade right. If you shot low, push the blade into the rifle. All font sight stuff I learned from AK shooting. Hopefully that helps
