What problem did you have? I purchased a 20ga one and had a small crack in the forend from the factory but Remington sent a new forend and replaced it.

We all have things in life like that so I understand! You should be very satisfied with your Fieldmaster IMO!

Sounds like it will be a fun one! Never had a super mag before. I know some of the older ones from freedom group had feeding issues but hopefully the super mag is just as good as this Fieldmaster model!

@@theohioohpinion115 they definitely knew what they were doing when they decided to make this shotgun. This is the 2nd 12 gauge I bought on my own. I had a browning 12 gauge pump that I used for years for deer hunting. My dad bought it at a gun show and I shot my first buck with it and I had it for 20 years n it got stolen a few years ago. I was so bummed. It got stolen about a month before gun season so I went and purchased a Stevens 320 field 12 gauge pump. It was the only gun I could afford so close to opening day.

Ok, an update! I took mine out squirrel hunting today. It patterns beautifully and operates as it should, but I have a complaint! When I got it out in the sun this morning I noticed something glistening in the sun around the vent rib posts. As I looked closer I discovered that the vent rib is epoxied on! I’m not thrilled about it.

Definitely a good choice! Mine operated flawlessly even with the low “brass” skeet loads. The action feels almost identical to my wingmaster but with more of a field finish that I’m not as worried to take out in the woods. Let me know how it shoots and thank you for the comment!

Shot a box of slugs, targets far down range, accuracy was on point, anything is dead even with the stock sights that came with. Final notes: KEEPER!!

I haven’t put that to the test but I’m sure it would not hurt! I know the Remingtons under freedom group had horrible finishes prone to rust. I have not seen any negative with mine.

I could not agree more. The Wingmaster is a great gun but almost have to take a loan out or drain the bank for a clean used one (not hating, just on a different “budget” level). In my opinion, the Fieldmaster is a great mix of all worlds and I’m not as afraid of taking it out into the woods to use it. I recently purchased the 20ga Fieldmaster and love it just as much. Fit is nice and functions great. I’m glad I could help you out with the decision as there are not many videos out on these. It would awesome if I could get my hands on a 410 when it comes out or a new wingmaster to review lol

I know some people expect Wingmaster finish for the price, but I happen to prefer this finish for hunting and utility reasons. This is cost effective and quality gun. I am not afraid to take it into the woods with me!

No problem! They absolutely do interchange. All accessories are supposed to interchange as well which is a great plus!

It has held up great! Much better than the express finish so far. It seems to be a much higher quality matte finish that I think is blued? Not too sure there to be honest

Mine seems to be holding up well. I always lightly oil the finish and wipe after every time I take it out anyhow.

Yeah there are a lot of good options out there! Anymore I like to keep it to USA made but I agree that they make some good shotguns! I do have a CZ bobwhite g2 that I love!

@@theohioohpinion115 i saw a new cz cammo semiauto 20 gauge at our local shop the other day. It is that reed cammo pattern, really nice shotgun. $649 I believe was the price.

@@Brett235 The CZ guns seem to be of decent quality and price for the money. I would hesitate to try one out. I have heard they have good support in the states as well.

I will have to go look at one in store, but I wonder if the mount would have a bottom boss to go down into the groove or if it’s for a better sight picture when a mount is not on it? I am just guessing but I can’t think of any other reason at the moment.

So that means you will have to get a special mount that only fits that model

@@theohioohpinion115 Edit my response. Haha. On Monday Night I assembled it and it was defective. Sons birthday was on Tue. I had to send it back Monday night to where I bought it and they are shipping it back to Remington. No response from Remington yet. The ejector was all messed up right out of the box and trying to go inside the firing chamber/barrel and not the little grooved slot where it grabs the shell. I simply put the barrel in place and went to slide everything together and it would not. So far I’m not excited about everything. Quality Control issue. I’m hoping to hear from them soon. My Sons Birthday gift was me showing him a video of a defective gun while he was with his mom and how I’m sending it back because its broke. Bummer.

@@rickhoward1516 that’s no good! I’m sorry to hear and hope that they make it right with you! I had a RemArms one do something similar that I had to leave the barrel nut loose and self align with the extractor and then it would work. Either way, that is extremely unacceptable! This is the first I’m hearing of an issue and hopefully they fix it quickly and make it up to you!

I am as well! Maybe I will keep a close eye and pick one of those up when the time comes! I hope they make one model of at least this quality as well as a BDL model or higher grade!

@@theohioohpinion115 the bdl and budget models are already being produced. Closer to deer season they’ll release a new model. I’m hoping for a carbon fiber stick with a weather resistant finish. A higher grade bdl would definitely be on the way to my gun safe if they make that. Especially in 7mm rem mag. Really liking what this new rem arms is doing. Definitely a step up from previous owners.

@@theohioohpinion115 yeah. I saw the new bdls in store a couple days ago. It was honestly as good as my old bdl or better. I stay away from Remingtons from 2008-2020. These new Remingtons are as good as the old ones. You see that in your fieldmaster tho.

The mossberg 500’s only have two small cheap pins holding the foreend into the action bars? Idk what its called,, but the cheap pins broke on me anyways.. shitty design

Much better design on the Remington… I have personally broke a Mossberg 500 forend as I know what you are talking about. The Remington 870 has a metal tube that the stock slides over and is held on with a large nut. You would probably break the wood before the forend tube assembly.

It is a 26” barrel and I love it! I have a 20 gauge with a 28” barrel and love it as well.

Clay/target shooting, waterfowl, turkey, upland game birds, deer in the right configuration, and home defense if you wanted. A lot of uses.

Well that is definitely not what Remington fans like to hear. Never had an 870 jam but have had a freedom group example have failure to feed and difficult to extract issues. How did it jam? Just curious so I can look into the issue. I bought a 20 gauge Fieldmaster and it is just as great as my 12 gauge version.

If you have the option and money is not a problem, I would go with the Wingmaster. It will have more of the fine finish and beauty. If you are looking for simply reliability and a good all around gun, go with the Fieldmaster.

You can get the Fieldmaster in 26” or 28” configurations with the field barrel. I know all of the combinations are detailed on Remington’s website.

At the end of the day, this is just my opinion on the Remington 870 Fieldmaster and I appreciate your opinion on it. As far as what they used to produce finish wise, I understand it is not the same but every sample I have held and seen is uniform in both fit and finish. I understand it may not be the Wingmaster’s glossy, deep blue finish but this was designed in mind for the outdoorsman that doesn’t want to scratch or damage a beautiful finish. I have a wingmaster, express and the Fieldmaster models and to me, this is the best of both worlds. The pump action feels almost identical to my copy of wingmaster. I understand it doesn’t have the metal trigger guard, chrome bolt and high gloss finish, but it serves its purpose by cycling and shooting fantastic every time. I have not broken a trigger guard because while I am not easy on my firearms, I treat all my tools with respect by not slamming anything around to be in such situation. As far as the CEO and company, I am sure they are like every other company in the fact that they are trying to battle against supply chain and cost issues as well as import or budget shotguns in the sense of alloy receivers or other inferior components. Trust me, I am not saying the plastic trigger guard is a fantastic idea, I am just saying it is better than sacrificing on a major structural component of the firearm (for example alloy receiver or other imported materials) Every manufacturer is trying to balance these ideas. The finish is subjective to anyone’s opinion and not sure on the lesser quality steel but can’t get much better than a forged steel billet when it comes to a main component of the firearm. I appreciate your comment though as it is a good discussion to have in my mind. Don’t get me wrong, I would love to have the quality and components of the original wingmaster made by Remington again, but with pressure on everything in today’s market, it wouldn’t fit their market because of cost vs. volume they would sell.

I have 2 older 870s both with plastic trigger wells and have beat on them for years, no issues and don't see them having any issues...never heard of anyone else having any problems with them either.... and you're also comparing them to a completely different gun

Plastic trigger guard on my 20 yr old Remington 12ga 870 and absolutely no problems. Nobody I know has broken one! It's not all that helpful to tell everyone they're going to break sometime in the future? Good luck

Yeah it can! I believe they make choke tubes made for steel but it will shoot them just fine.

My copy has been great! I haven’t had any issues with feeding or ejecting with the rounds I have put through it.
