In no way is this performance to represent authentic or recommended Djembe playing style as perceived by any traditional Djembe teacher, practitioner, drumming body or maker. This is purely a personal exploration and interpretation of the tonal and rhythmic possibilities of the reinvented fibreglass Djembe, specifically looking at the adaptation of western drum set rhythms onto a single membrane ethnic instrument.

Man i have to say you groove, i celebrate the way your soundscape plays to my ear. All phrase to traditions who are the keepers and vessels of the groove, though for those who whine of not being traditional are merely stuck in a box with wax clogging their ears.....long live the groove, well done!

+alby Application. I watch an hours worth of percussion videos every lunch hour and have for over a year. I've been playing percussion insturments for 23 years and selling them for 8, and I've never seen anyone play quite like this. Obviously he didnt invent any techniques in this video, but his application, patience, and aproach in my opinion make him a VERY CREATIVE musician. my 2 cents

I enjoy artists who are willing to be themselves, and often I then find that they are "self-taught." They didn't go to a school to learn to create their art just like everyone else, or to write a best-selling book because it fits the mold of what is currently selling well. Thank you for being unique, and for sharing your own interpretation of how this drum speaks to you. I hope you will keep having those conversations with this drum and letting the rest of us eavesdrop.

Go for a remo they are decent quality have a easy tuning system for beginners and are a little lighter as they are synthesized not hard wood they are a bit metallic tones but a 14in remo is a great instrument for a beginner

Great playing! I bought a Remo djembe a few years back. Great drum but I still prefer an authentic Djembe honestly. Remo totally has an artificial feel/sound which I suppose is to be expected. Also it doesn’t sound like in this video. This is due to the fact that he’s playing in a recording studio with a mic. Just my two cents for anybody shopping around. Happy drumming :)

+Mike Oxner If he didn't acted so much during his playing (or if I was blind) maybe I would've appreciated more what he did. It sounds nice but it's way too acted and, to be honest, his hand technique is far from perfect. It's not about talent. It's that you know when someone plays his or hel soul through the drum, and he isn't doing that. He's trying to be impressive.

+Leandro González lets hear what you can do. i act spastic while playing. its different artist to artist. i cant judge. i like what i hear.
@gonzaleandro
@gonzaleandro 9 жыл бұрын
+Mike Oxner Exactly. We tend to acquire certain facial gestures and such, maybe look serious. It's unintentional. This guy is crearly trying to visually impress those who see him play. That's what I don't like. I also like what I hear, his playing is good (leaving aside his technique). I'm talking about his pose, which is -to me- not quite the same as "can't control looking spastic while I play".
