Remote Alaska Living, bringing a Kioti tractor to off grid island.
We bought a Kioti CK3510 tractor to help us with our building. Now we need to get it to the island. One way to get this done is to load your big items on a landing craft and have it sailed over to the remote island. This is just one of the ways we get stuff done living in Alaska.
Thanks for watching.

We are building a cabin in southeast Alaska. It’s an off grid cabin on an island near Juneau. We are towards making a homestead out here and becoming more sustainable through frugal living, hunting, fishing and gardening. Alaska homesteading is more than just words is a way of life. So if you are interested in moving to Alaska or the off grid life click the subscribe button and join us here at My Alaska Dream, where we show what it's like homesteading for beginners.
Living in Alaska is great, come with us and enjoy the experience.

As one with a similar sized tractor. Great investment. We just got ours in late Sept. It,s coming up on 200hrs already. The backhoe is a great feature. I have dug up so many trees and stumps.Does it have a 3rd function valve? Wish I knew when I bought it . I'd love to get a front grapple bucket.

Man I use that tractor for everything. I’ve unloaded a 1000 lbs of cement mix out of the boat, along with wood splitters for me and the neighbors. I thought about a getting a grapple bucket but went with a set of forks. I can left logs and pallets with the forks so it seemed like more bang for the buck.

So useful for so many things! A wise investment B, and if you feeling any remorse... it will disappear after hauling huge firewood logs to your cabin with with minimal effort! Hello! using my wife's computer, my question is how much muskeg do you have on your island? Heavy wheeled vehicles will sink in to the off road areas in a lot of Southeast, obviously this is not the case for you and your island.Love your channel, got a fair amount in common by the way.

Curious how long of a ride it is to your island from land ? Also curious the cost to ship things on a landing craft ?
@AnAlaskaHomestead
@AnAlaskaHomestead 5 жыл бұрын
In our boat on a calm day it’s a 40 min ride. Rough weather it could take an hour or two. It depends on the size. You can hire a landing craft from 200 and up. That one cast me $1000. The other guy cost $500 but had to make two trips.

I was with a Hida Indian woman who absolutely was related to everyone in the southeast and then I grew into knowing and using it to see things only family would enjoy but then she changed her mind after ten plus years. I never ever went with anyone after that and she finally called me one day to say "Hey, the family wants you back and plus I am tired of my family telling me that I was cheating on you, I can't have any fun." Time just never healed me so I left to live in the further north and I still get asked.. "How is your miss's" and if I say she left me or something.. I get balled out... she's yours... go get her". We do see each other for coffee but she and I are no more... I have my reasons as my age is really hard and thirty six years have taken their place. Alone too long to be retrained into "Married life style", we both know and understand. I don't really know what kinds of music that you guys like but you might like to google a man called Tommy Emmanuel, some of the best instrumental music that does cross over to many generations. I hope that the channel grows very big and is what a lot of people are learning to use as a good tool. Don't ever totally retire as I did in a roundabout way. Setting down just seems to mean laying down as our legs never come back like they were in boot camp and you had cramps that would blind two men you would swear. I totally wish that you had a trailer mounted bandsaw mill for making your own lumber and sawing some of those fine Maple Burls into night stands or other nice "home built" lumber. You would be surprised how much it could change your mind. Another good channel for people as ourselves have had this pioneer spirit is Sawing with Sandy... I just know on the way he works and you kids are working for goals have worked very hard to get where you are.... Heck, I better get off here... so good luck and as a new sub to you'ns ever better days ahead

What an amazing and tragic story. I glad to hear you still stay in touch now and then. I’ve been looking at woodland sawmills and while doing research the one channel I subscribed to sawing with Sandy. I like how he showed his mistakes and why he changed his set up so he didn’t have to shovel all the saw dust by hand. Cool cabin too. I’ve always been a busy body. I worked harder. Is that I’m retired than I did in my old job😂 Take care.

@@AnAlaskaHomestead If your as handy as I think, I watched you on your little backhoe and your skill set is quite a bit higher than a many I have seen do any work on them. Those controls are very quick and so kinda curious if the tractor you have has the ability to switch controls on the hoe end there... can you switch from backhoe to excavator or not as they are not the same and it gets real confusing. I want you to watch this link to a man who is a top notch fab man whos plans include going off grid. He is in the middle of building a bandsaw mill and trying to keep costs down to under a thousand dollars.... and this one is comparable to woodmizer or cook mills. Those two are cadillac mill builders but then they are very high and out of pocket book range. Also getting a mill of theirs shipped to your island paradise. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Zq6alMWb3KzQdmw.html&ab_channel=JonathanW I know that I am starting you on video no. 2 but if you have a channel as you do then finding the whole play list shouldn't be too tuff/LOL. I watch him a lot cause he does what I used to do. Building from scratch should be a breeze and even if your not a great welder, then there are people who are very able and probably needing work. If it turns out real good... might even be a sideline business for you. I know since you were in the service that requisitioning a part was normal days adventure when I was in. From razor blades to getting shrimp for a mess tent party sound familiar?? I hope that this is a help towards a future of projects.... like a "privy" made from lumber cut in say thirty minutes of sawing..... keep in mind that this not the only way to build it and it could be a mill that only requires a man to push it through like most are.

Why do so many people have outhouses? Can they not get a permit for a septic system and have a toilet inside?
@AnAlaskaHomestead
@AnAlaskaHomestead 2 жыл бұрын
For us to install a septic our leech field needs to be below a -4.5 tide. That’s about 100 yards from our place. Then you’d need a large excavator to did the trench in that short amount of time. Just to get the excavator here and back to town is $2k plus the price of renting the machine and all of the components to build the system. For right now we are happy with an outhouse.

One problem you will run into with the tractor is hauling capacity. The bucket only holds so much and the atv trailer is also small so look into a truck bed. A wrecked pickup that you can salvage the bed and frame makes for a nice trailer you can pull behind the tractor even with the back arm on with the right rigging so you can get more material moved per trip. No need for an expensive dump trailer/truck as you can use the tractor to tip it enough to dump.

Then you can do what you want with that money. Spend it all at the club drinking and buying girls drinks or you could save this money to buy things you need like a tractor or a car. You can even buy apartments in the city or a cabin in the woods. Decide what you want out of life Mark and then figure out how to get there.
