Remotely Control a VMware Workstation Virtual Machine using a VNC connection

If you don't want to remotely control your VMs using the VMware Workstation console or a Remote Desktop connection for Windows VMs then you can connect to your VMs using a VNC connection instead. All you need to do is enable the setting on each VM and make sure to use different port numbers if you are configuring this on more than one virtual machine.
You can use any VNC client you like such as RealVNC or Tight VNC for example. You can also password protect the connection. If you use this for more than one VM you will get a socket bind already in use error meaning you need to use a different port number for your other VMs. You can also view the VNC connections for each VM from the settings menu.
Here is a writeup on the procedure.

Hello, First thank you so much for your videos, are very well explained. Do you knwo if its possible connect throught VNC Viewer from other computer not in the same network? For example one computer with VM Ware in one location and other computer with VNC in other intertnet network?

Would like to see the comparison of vm players. Eg vnc vs VMware Remote Console, VMWorkstation, Remote Desktop etc. If any situation one player trumps another etc. For example, all the VMs are hosted on a server, what is the best way for a user to access that VM, and what player may be better if you work remotely. Cheers

Is it possible to take control of the guest which is hosted on VMware workstation from google meet or zoom? Only Display is visible but key hits are not working ? Is there any settings to enable remote access ?

How can I close console on the VMware itself? I want to login remotely using vnc, I don't need to see what is going on at host and spend resources on rendering, etc.

After you get your VNC connection going, you can close the VMware Workstation console and just choose "run in background" for the VM from the available choices. The VM will stay running but the console will close. And if you close the VNC connection, you can connect to the VM again without opening VMware Workstation.

@@OnlineComputerTips so uhm, I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I have two hosts, and a third host in a VM - a Debian 11. Host1 (me) and host2 (the host holding the VM) are connected via Private network and are off the internet. I assigned to the VM the "bridged connection" setting, and checked the box to tell it to inherit physical connection from network adapter (I actually also tried to uncheck this). VM has manual IP .6, host1 is .15, host3 is .3. I want to vnc from host 1 to host VM. Real vnc times out, tightvnc says "host VM actively refused connection" I even tried putty and it didn't work. still all hosts ping each other. what am I doing wrong?

How I can use my VMWare Windows in a Workgroup?
@OnlineComputerTips
@OnlineComputerTips 2 жыл бұрын
You can have all of your VMs in the same workgroup as if they were physical computers. They should be in the default Windows workgroup as is.

@@phystech_ir Have you compared the subnet of the VMs to the subnet of your VMnet virtual adapters on your host to make sure one matches?

You are missing the most important thing which is which way you are using the vm to connect, bridged, nat, host, custom?
@OnlineComputerTips

0:47 Data sent over VNC is NOT encrypted as you can see in the Vmware Settings, so this is a very insecure way of remote connection, useless

@@gdalex7132 testing software is just one use of vm, but vm's are also used as if they were the primary os with their own data. For example, you can convert your main (host) OS into a VM and run it from another pc (host). There are many more use cases where the vm has important info
