Removal of a silver maple that was over 60 feet tall and required maneuvering up and over and under power lines. The entire process took five hours to remove from start to finish, with a single operator on the ground manipulating the crane.
Thanks to owner/crane operator Tyler for doing an amazing job, and to his coworker for a great clean up!
To see the full removal of each side, please see the linked videos below.

I’m not sure what impressed me more, the incredible truck/crane/cutter or the amazing skill of the operator. They had a difficult job and made it look easy. I was wondering what the weight limit was for the crane. It was lifting very heavy lumber.
@wagnis1
@wagnis1 9 ай бұрын
I cannot recall the weight limit, it was far more than he was cutting. the operator did tell me that it was capable of cutting and lifting the entire tree and lifting it. He had to do many small cuts to safely grab and move it over the power lines.

In the UK you would not be allowed to carry out this procedure unless the electricity company was present. Worked in the industry over 50 years and seen many contractor accidents through stupidity . This would end up in court and contractor prosecuted

I worked as a crane operator for most of my working life and every time we had to work near high voltage lines we'd either have the power turned off or have the wires covered with very thick insulators. The lines at the top of the poles are most likely in the range of ten to twenty thousand volts. Certainly enough to kill any one who may be touching the crane should it strike the wire.
@buggsy5
@buggsy5 20 күн бұрын
No one is ever close to the crane while it is near the power lines. But there might still be nice sparks if there was contact.

We don't know what was done with those larger trunk sections. They could all have been cut into multiple thick slabs for tables or milled for furniture.

Yikes. First the city creates the problem with their awful tree pruning, then they have to 'fix' it with taking out the tree that survives the pruning. What poor planning to plant trees under the power lines to begin with... repeated ad infinitum in neighborhoods across the country. And in the end, the poor hardwood tree gives its life to become instant sawdust! But wait, there is hope toward the end... they keep some of the tree. And, there is job security for the fools who prune the next tree(s) that will eventually get tall enough to need a five-hour expert cleanup crew.

Then open your eyes. The operator knew exactly what he was doing and did it very skillfully. How would you suggest doing the job? I assume the power was turned off for those wires. I don’t think they would have done the job otherwise.
@jasonallison5121
@jasonallison5121 9 ай бұрын
@michaelgoble8200 really? Do you honestly think for one second the utilities were interrupted? The actual safe way to handle this removal would be to set up on the opposite side of the lines. Reaching through while maintaining the 10 foot safe distance was not done. OSHA regulations are set in place to keep people alive. If that load were to become energized the ground crew would be facing a serious issue
@buggsy5
@buggsy5 20 күн бұрын
@@jasonallison5121 The operator is the owner - OSHA rules are to protect employees, not the owner or volunteers - at least, according to my local OSHA officer, who happens to be an actor at our local community theatre. There would not be any risk to the people on the ground if the crane became energized - they were never close to it while it was operating near the wires.

The only option with the crane was utilized from the street. Crane operator knew exactly what needed to be done.

IT IS SAD, THESE PEOPLE DOING THIS JOB IS WORKING TO PAY FOR THEIR BOSS'S PRESTIEGE.. THAT TREE IS ONE i EVEN AT 85 EARS OLD COULD TAKE DOWN WITH JUST A ROPE AND A CHAIN SAW AND A PAIR OF SPIRS. IT DON'T EVEN NEED A SAFETY HARNESS iF THEY WERE REAL SREE SURGEONS THEY COULD FREE FALL MOST AND BUT ROPE THE REST. .THAT MAN WHO OWNS THET TRUCK WILL NEVER PAY IT OFF. BUT HE WILL CONTRACT AT FIVE TO TEN TIMES THE REAL COST IT SHOULD BE, BECAUSE THE CUSTOMER IS PAYING THE BILLS.

Very few people have your obvious tree felling expertise - so don't have that option. Even if they did, how much damage would be done to lawns, sidewalks and street in the process? I bet it would be significant.
