For beginners it would be helpful to show the process from bringing in the file (open) and then show all the functions via menu. Shortcuts are very useful but still like to see where in the menu to find. Would have been good to show the export process so the photo could be used without the background. Thanks sharing your knowledge.

Thank you for the kind words! I'll be publishing a Tutorial on Alpha Channels to go more in depth on Transparent Backgrounds as well one on File Formats since they don't all support Transparency. Good Tips! See you in the next Episode.

I'd rather use the path tool (key B) instead of the lasso. It gives you way less clicks, more control (you store the path in the image, and you can edit it later if you want, you can move any point, any point handle, insert and remove points). And what it the largest advantage, it gives you nice organic curves, which fit good for real world outlines. After creating a path, you just apply 'Selection from Path' command. Of course you can combine multiple paths into one selection, make holes just adding inner closed path, and more. Of course, it takes some time to master these Bezier curves, but it will pay back because it's really a huge time saver.

The Path Tool is fantastic and I'll be producing tutorials on all the selections tools. Many of these Tutorials are meant for absolute beginners and will build from there. Beginner and Beyond ;-) GIMP is such a feature rich image editor how cool is it that it is OpenSource and Free ;-)

Hi Turgut and Thank You! I've used all the Selection Tools in GIMP to try and perform this task and I found this method requires the least amount of effort and provides the most accurate results, however, I would encourage others to use the methods that work the best for them. See you in the next Episode!

I appreciate you taking the time and effort to make the video, however the lamp would cast more light to that side of the face and hair and also the hairline and outline of her head is to clean cut and no feathering , but thanks for your efforts shane uk 🇬🇧

How did u do it transparent? Mine is White. :(
@tinkerzlab
@tinkerzlab 9 ай бұрын
I add an alpha channel to the image so whatever I delete will leave transparency. Not all image formats support transparency which is why I use the PNG image format as that image format is lossless and supports transparency.

Hi Allen! Powerful software always has tons of features and options. That's why I'm producing tutorials that go over the basics and will get progressively more involved. Remember, CTRL+Z is undo, or you can go to Edit, Undo. Don't give up on it as it will get progressively easier the more you use it. Create Freely!

Click on "edit" in the menu across the top, and the first item is "undo (whatever your last action was)." Don't be discouraged. The learning curve is really steep, but just keep doing tutorials and also Google searches on "how do I ____(whatever you're trying to do) in GIMP." Just keep pursuing it and you'll get good at it.
