Misleading title. You didn’t remove the drain, you just covered it up.

I've been dealing with this exact problem for years.Have rental properties and this is a common problem I run into. Sometimes the tool you showed will break the remaining metal pieces in the drain making the tool worthless in that situation. I to never knew this option existed. Thanks for sharing this video.

There are plenty of other tools used to remove the drains, even when the cross is broken off. That is the better way to do it, instead of this method.

use the small saw to cut the drain. it works for me

If you're changing a drain do it right. The drain my corrode at the threads and break. Separating the drain pipe from the tub. The drain top is what holds the pipe to the tub. With a seal that's what keeps the water contained. If it breaks inside then you'll have a leak leading to all kinds of other problems. Such as rotten floor boards and mold. So much worse for the elderly like he says. Slapping a band aid fix on it like this is lazy and irresponsible. And it makes the job much harder for the next person because the old drain will sit in there and corrode even worse. And no one will bat an eye because the top looks nice. Cut the old one out and put a new full drain in with plumbers puddy. This video is bad advise. DON'T use this method. You'll make things worse for yourself or someone else later.

Thanks for letting me know that product exists! I would be interested in how long those drains last. Shower drains get kicked and knocked on a lot - I would be worried the glue may not hold.

There are plenty of tools on the market that will make removing the drain easy, even if all of the cross pieces are broken off. This is a bandaid, not a repair. You'd be better off using one of those rubber plugs until you can find someone that knows how to actually remove and replace the drain properly.

Hair and soap scum collect under the plug but because it is glued to the rim, it can't easily be cleaned. I had one and removed it after six months with silicone solvent.

use the small SAW to saw the drain. It works for me. bc u have to remove the old one in a long run
