One trick on how to remove any stuck sprinter egr valve in little to no time. My channel covers specific sprinter maintenance and repairs for diy. anything relating to emissions systems, egr, dpf, def, ecu reprograming and much more.

My EGR valve in my 2018 with OM642 after 30,000 miles was stuck in there very good! I used PB Blaster and Kroil penetrating oil, I could wiggle it a tiny bit, waited overnight and no luck, it would not budge. I ended up removing the two safety torx on the top of the valve that hold the actuator into the block with coolant flow and threaded two of the four longer EGR hold down bolts into the two holes. They bottomed out on the manifold where the EGR mounts, then quarter turns on each gently pressed the EGR out. It worked exactly like taking off a stuck brake rotor by threading a bolt into the 8mm threaded holes made for that purpose. This is likely the way Mercedes techs in the dealer shops get it out, very smooth and fast.

yes, I imagine your method would work. something I did not mention in the video is that I usually use a thinner screwdriver with lots of flexibility to go into the top hole. unfortunately said screwdriver conveniently went missing when trying to film this. .glad you enjoyed the video

Bob, that is a great dea! Use the valve body like a gear puller. My 2008 EGR is so stuck it feels welded on and would not budge. I need to find the tamper socket.

MrBobsVids ! Your advice to remove the two shorter safety torx screws & replace with 2 of the 4 EGR hold-down bolts, and alternately screw those two bolts down onto the intake manifold flat to pry up the EGR valve...THAT WORKED GREAT! My EGR valve was super stuck. I doubt any other way would have worked without badly hogging out the aluminum somewhere. Even on cleaning the EGR body & reassembly, it would only wiggle-on by hand to about 3/8-1/2" above the manifold. Just wouldn't budge any closer. Had to use the 4 bolts the rest of the way to carefully and evenly pull it down. Super tight tolerances between EGR actuator body and intake manifold hole. Because the dang thing is in so tigth, the two bolts used for removal leverage do score the underlying intake manifold flat, but far from where the gasket seats, so not a problem at all.

This trick got mine out I threaded the longer ones in , did quarter turns and it popped out I did have the longer bolts almost all the way bottomed out before mine came out , I didn't see any scoring or damage from turning the bolts on the housing either , also Thank you 'SprinterFix' too for the great tips without this video I possibly would have taken to the mechanic

it works. My initial concern of damaging the threads was not an issue. The Manifold was threaded, but the EGR valve was not. So, stayed away from the threads and worked away. It did take me longer, about 2 minutes. Thanks!

Appears to be a viable solution for that valve. Maybe calling the "Sprinter Four Bolt EGR Value Removal" would be more accurate. Sadly, the 2006 316CDI 5 Cylinder three bolt EGR has no place to apply a separating force with a flathead screw driver. I'll give it a try pulling up with a other forces to see if I can free it. None the less, thanks for the vid.

wiggle back and forth a little longer, then try pulling while wiggling, it will separate. best of luck

@@kayakwesty I absolutely love the 07-09 model years. thicker timing chain, no nox sensors, better wiring harness. theyre my favorite gen. their achilies heal might be the dpf filter. might make a video addressing that.

@@sprinterfix would love to see that video. My current project is rebadging the " dodge" into a Mercedes. Also thank you on headlight video. I never thought of 3000 grit. On mine I used 3M clear coat wipes I found on Amazon.

Easy way to damage the threads in that intake manifold. Better to tap the body with a hammer near the base of the valve body

yea, possible to use a softer aluminum screwdriver if you are worried about that. hammers in my experience have been more damaging.

This video was SO helpful. Just had to take mine out on my 240k Sprinter which I'm sure had never been removed before. The technique worked super well but just knowing this amount of effort was needed was wicked helpful. Thank you!!

What kind of screwdriver did you use to loosen the EGR valve? I'm afraid I won't damage the thread?

Something thin and flexible is ideal. Don’t worry about damaging the thread. Never been an issue although it may seem like one. Removed over 100 of these.

I have a 2012 Sprinter, would this be the location of the EGR on that model? I think I need to buy a Haynes manual 😂

Yep. Provided u have the 3.0 diesel it will be in exactly the same spot. Looks a smidge different on 2010+ but still the same for all intents and purposes

That's not the EGR valve for a 02-03 Sprinter, it's for a 04-06 Sprinter. The T1N Sprinters had the 612 engine in the 02-03 and the 647 engine in the 04-06 vans. Both engines are similar (5 cylinder) but with some differences suck as this.

Well to be fair it’s really a first gen North American ncv3 om642. But who is being precise. If the egr has two boot holes this should work.

I am well aware of the differences in the engines. I have tried this on everything from 2004 to 2020. If u can show me that this does not work on an om612 I will certainly change the title of my video. The goal of this channel is to offer precise information and I do my best to hold true to that

Here in the US. The 2007 om642 had an egr valve.
