This bill, the Big Cat Public Safety Act (BCPSA), will allow people who already have big cats as pets at the time the law passes to keep them. ​@OanhSchlesinger There is no way to transport wild animals that guarantee the animal will not be injured in the process. You cannot sedate the animals for extended periods of time without risking their death. The shame is that there is a need to transport these animals from one point to another to begin with. The selfish desire of people are the reason these animals are taken from their native land and forced to live in captivity. They were meant to be wild animal and will always remain wild. I live in North Carolina and am applaud that there is no laws against owning and breeding wild animals to sell to anyone who wants one.

Big cat rescue is the worst place to send a animal.

Please don't spread rumors!!!! Who knows how many people saw that comment, believed it, and told others. You know, the 'phone game.'

I have a better idea. Educate people from kids to adults on why its wrong to own animals that should never be caged. Just show films of animals in their wild habitat and how care-free and happy they look. In contrast show a film of Ivan the gorilla and his miserable life. If that isn't convincing I don't know what will be?

I agree only on the condition that at some point they are returned home preferably sooner than later. Even well run facilities have cages. Some reserves / conversations do not. Where they can be the animals they were meant to be. I oppose the idea of cages- in any form. Humans ruin everything. From poachers to city & back yard zoo keepers.

If governments stepped in and stopped captive breeding and ownership all together the money used to house and care for captive animals could go towards preserving wilderness and wild populations. Look at these tigers, bounced around multiple times because it's crazy expensive to care for them. Captive populations don't protect wild populations, they divert money that could be used to protect wild populations.

Do you understand the evolutionary implications of that? These animals, in wild usually have miles to themselves. They have stuff like markings etc. They even kick their family out of their areas. Now understand the torture they feel being enclosed in a few small feets. *Only solution is to preserve wilderness & to provide strict punishements to those who break it.* Putting them in enclosures like these would only devolve them. Make them like dogs.

Unless and until the wilderness is restored, I think they're better off on PROPERLY RUN shelters. For example: some Bengal tigers are larger than Siberian tigers because poachers kill the off before they ever reachatirity! They need protection!

Hi Colin, thank you for your comment. We love to see animals returned to their wild homes whenever possible! Sadly, these animals have been bred and raised in captivity, and are generally habituated to humans. Unlike in cases of animals in the wild that may become injured or otherwise need to be rehabilitated and then returned to their wild homes, these cats have never had wild homes-and they would not be equipped to survive in wild. Most successful rescue/releases are animals that were already in the wild to begin with and just need some assistance or time to heal from an injury or illness before they can return home. In rare cases, orphaned young animals may be prepared for release. But this requires a specialized care regime that includes a complete separation from humans and training the animals to identify and successfully hunt appropriate wild game. This is not something that is possible to do with adult cats, especially those who already look to humans for all of their needs. If released these animals would not survive in the wild and would likely become a threat to local communities. We are advocating to get a bill passed to protect captive big cats in the US. @@ifawglobal stop feeding the idea - we are their only hope. Your organization is a huge part of the problem. Fix it! The goal should be to release not to keep. You may even be doing something good by increasing their numbers. Others are doing it with success. Don't believe me, look it up for yourself. The internet has a wealth of information. BUT if they are an endangered species still, why are you guys so against the owners breeding them? Or is it cause they’re in captivity? You miss the point. Owning a tiger is not the problem. The government is not the problem. Owning a tiger and not taking good care for the tiger is the problem. Tigers should live in the wild, but okay, if you have a whole lot of space, including the swimming water tigers love, the right food and your vet is a tiger specialist, you can meet all legal obligations. Do not think that is cheap or easy, however. The problem is, when things go wrong. Stupid people can not have a tiger. You've got to know what a tiger is. And if you do not know who Anna Breytenbach is, the animal communicator, forget about a tiger. Even if you know all facts about big cats, if you do not know there's a deep bond betwen species, chances are, you'll make mistakes. Even zoo owners sometimes need the help of an animal communicator. So, check out Anna Breytenbach, in South Africa, when you have seen her relationship with animals, you will understand there is a way to be safe with animals. That is very very special, but when you are prepared to learn to be like her, you could safely have tigers. You can think of all the things that can go wrong, but how can the government step in? Are those big cat owners checked every month or so? You should, when there's an animal law, there must be checking animal welfare, not just wait until there is a complaint, you would be far too late then. No, register them, do checks and let the owners pay for that.
