This Pokeweed grew wild in the front yard. I had to remove it and I dissected it to learn more about it.
Pokeweed is considered by many people to be an ornamental plant. However it is very poisonous. So be more careful than I was if you intend on handling one for whatever reason. Be careful !
Thank you for watching ! :)

Love this video. Pros go quickly without really pausing to show the plant in detail. You take your time. I appreciate that.

"this plant is toxic, handle with care" Then I watch you touch and rub the plant oils everywhere. 😱

What an unusual plant, thanks for sharing! Going forward I would suggest putting a tarp under the tree because we all know what’s inside berries…seeds and plenty of them! You may want to keep an eye on the area for the next few years and remove anything that sprouts up before the roots have an opportunity to go deep. Also, all of those roots surely need to come out. I planted a wisteria. When I realized two years later that it was invasive I dug it out. I was only about 3 1/2 feet tall but took me 2 hours to dig out all the roots. Same type roots as your poke. Rubbery type roots about 10 feet long. I love wisteria but only in other peoples yards! Thankfully I have never had a pokeweed. Better left to nature areas! Good luck !

The Poke Week is a beautiful plant! The young shoots are healthy & delicious food source for folks, when cooked properly. The berries are awesome for RA, if swallowed whole. Its roots are also beneficial. Birds love the berries. If one really doesnt want this plant to grow, dig it up, in early Spring, before its roots spread deep

No, remove the seeds first. Then put the whole thing in black plastic bags as garbage. They will take over your yard. The roots are long and must be dug up fully. Good luck!

Ripe berries, are good to grow hair, use it daily on your scalp ,for more than 3 months ,and you.ll be surprise, little bit of burning sensation, for 2 minutes,,shampoo after 2 or 3 hrs. Also good for skin ailments on dogs ,real poison if you eat to many,

Best to dig up before the berries grow. Early spring depending on your area. I just dug out mine.

Does the inside of the stalk smell like peppers when you break it open? I have a bunch of weeds in my yard that are very similar but they don't have any berries and haven't turned red yet, if they're going to, so I don't know if they're poke weed or something else. They smell like peppers when you break them open.

At this stage in the monster plant's life, do not touch those things with your bare hands, wear plastic gloves or wash your hand with soap and water. With a good garden-cutting tool, remove the berries and leaves and put them in plastic bags. Then cut down the stalks, dig out the roots and or pour gasoline in the exposed taproot.

Y'all can send it all to me! Plants, stems, leaves, seeds, roots bunches, berries, all of it. Boil the leaves THREE TIMES, and it's nonpoisonous and similar to spinach. You know what happens when a one-eyed man eats spinach..!

This plant sucks... I have these at my back yard and fenceline and growing between the roots in some trees.....more than 15 of them... Hate it with a passion.

I cut down one in my mom's backyard yesterday. It was growing along the fence line too. I've never seen it before (only green weeds) so it's red appearance was creepy to me. Looked like a weed from another planet.

In the south its called poke salad and yes, many people have eaten these vines and its good. If you know how to cook it right. Its like a spicy spinach almost but its not really spicy.

Thanks for posting this. Found one of these in my mom's yard and sawed it down but didn't remove the root. Now I see that the root needs to be cut and that it's going to be pretty deep and long.

Is it poisonous to touch? or just poisonous to eat. I have a few that I'm not sure how to handle or where to dispose of them. I read that you shouldn't burn them either.

As long as you wash your hands and clothes afterwards, you should be okay, but I recommend you wear gloves because the berry juice can stain your hands.

The root is the most poisonous! Also, the plants gonna grow back as you did not remove all of the root system in its entirety! Sorry!
