@@Nj10scaleI'm late but it depends on the tires material. Some synthetic rubbers can start to degrade at temperatures as low as 120°F. Real rubber can take up to 650°F without damage.

Heatgun method; Use a heat gun in the lowest setting and start to apply heat where the rim and the tire meet until you hear the glue making a cracking sound and start dismounting the tire with caution ⚠️ (safe for plastic rims).

I was thinking the same thing. It could have been minimized down to just two methods: heat, or paint thinner/acetone. And after what his results were with the acetone, I’ll use my heat gun too.

What is good about this video is the Traxxas tire that comes with the cars is a very good tire. I used a heat gun and I rotate it until the rim starts to smoke. Then I get something to poke at the edge and it comes right off. 👌🏽

Boiling tires works pretty good, my method is almost as you did with your blow dryer. Let one side of the bead boil. Don’t squeeze the tire, which will cause water to be sucked into the foam. Let the water do the work, boiling from the outside. Another thing is, my wife let me use the big lobster boiling pot, that way you can boil all tires at one time . Once you get one bead unseated, flip them and throw them back in. For a set of four tires it took us about 30 minutes . No tears to the tire, no hot water scalding your face 🤣 but I’m not a “do it my way is the best way guy” whatever way you get them off to save some 💵 that’s great 😁 sharing ideas is what it’s all about . Thank you for sharing ! 👍👍

Boiling will discolor your wheels if they are chrome and has a tendency to ruin the foams. The way I do it I wrap the wheel/tire assembly in foil like a baked potato. Preheat your oven to 300 then turn off. Place your wrapped tires in the oven for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and pop the tires off the wheels. Doesn't damage the wheels, tires or foams. Wrapping in foil helps hold the heat in as compared to just laying an open wheel/tire on a sheet of foil.

The best Acetone method is to use a 5 gallon pail with a lid. Put the tires in the pail and in the center of the pail, put in a glass of Acetone (don't soak the tires in it). The fumes from the Acetone do a much better job than actually putting the tires in the Acetone. Leave it overnight and the next day, they come off much easier and with the least amount of damage. Though, there is glue residue on both the wheel and tire. Just need to bend the bead around and flick the glue off (if you want).

My favorite way, and probably the most fun, is to just put them old tires on your fastest rig, take it to the track, and drive it like you stole it. Those tires come unglued super quick. The even more reliable way to make sure the tires come unglued is to do this in the pre-qualifier on race day.

I have 6 or 7 cars right now and usually 2 or 3 sets of wheels and tires for each car so the acetone method works for me because I've got plenty of time to let a set of tires soak in a container that is sealed. I don't like the way the heating methods stretch the bead of the tire anyway. But a lot of people are in way too much of a rush to wait for anything....... You know what they say about instant gratification... ,.....it takes to long!!!!🙃

I used a heat gun in the past. Faster than a hair dryer. Can cause damage to chrome finishes. I'll put thought to the oven next time. Acetone will remove chrome and from what I understand kills the foam. I'm also considering getting some acetone to do a bulk batch of tire removals where I actually cut the tire off the rim leaving behind a small ring, in order to save the foam. Those tires weren't worth saving.

Good video. I run all my tires with no vents so that h2o doesn't get inside of my tires. Can you tell if the methods you liked the best can lock out the h2o from touching the foams?

I think baking worked the best, the foams stay nice and dry.

Only baking it heatgun.. Then no liquids involved.. You can put acetone in a cup then put that in the bottom center of bucket..add the tires carefully so they sit above the cup so only the fumes will work the glue loose then shit the lid on the bucket air tight and let them sit for a day or more and they will come off by themselves,and no acetone liquid will hit your foams..

Here’s a thought. What about a candle warmer/hot plate?! One you can crank the temperature up or down on. That may work and be mess free.

@@TandemCTelevision fyi just got done using the acetone on the wheel from the kit... they came off very easy, could be my poor gluing technique or crappie glue. It did take the paint I had on them off though. Thanks for all you awesome content very informative channel keep up the great work.

Yikes, I'm assuming you'd like to use the ESC again? You'll have to be very careful, I'd try using low heat from a hair dyer and prying with a small flat head screwdriver, putty knife, or something flat. Take your time and use low heat, you don't want to de-solder anything in the ESC.

Should there be water in steamer? Are tires submerged or just down bead covered?
@Slatanicmushroom
@Slatanicmushroom 4 жыл бұрын
Mac P No water = no steam so I think there has to be water in the steamer. Tires will only be in the steam while steaming. When boiling I think the water will help to get rid of the glue. I boiled rims, but they tend to bend so I stopped boiling my rims and now I use aceton...
