It does work to eat the aluminum, but you should have neutralizing agents and safety equipment on hand and ready for use. Not sure what machine shops charge where you're at but here sleeving a cylinder is about $90. Keep that in mind when you go junkyard diving. Unless you want an excuse to get a 6.0L, it may be a cheaper fix than you thought to get a sleeve. If you do get a sleeve, just be aware it may distort the cylinder next to the one getting a sleeve. If so price out the cost of at least having those 2 cylinders honed at the machine shop when you do the price comparison of a what you'd get at the JY.

I was thinking that I would hang onto the block, but I already purchased a new set of pistons in standard size. So my thought was that it would be cheaper to get another long block from the junkyard and have this one sleeved and oversized at a later date. There is already some slight rust pitting in the cylinders, so an oversize boring would be best.

@@itseithergonnaworkoritaint7852 I already know what my machine shop here charges to bore and hone. He’s not cheap, and he takes FOREVER.... Last time it took a year and a half.
