Thanks for the step by step. I have old wooden windows i want to change also. Ill give it a shot. I wish u showed how to measure for the new one though, but still appreciated

Btw, you got this! Just measure inside and between the wood stops with a bottom sash lifted and deduct the standard 1/2”. You may be able to get away with 1/4” deduct. For the height, measure from the top between the wood stops to the bottom sill and deduct 1/4-1/2”.

This is amazing! Would you have done anything differently if there were outer storm windows? I’m just trying to replace my inside, old wooden windows

The outer storm window should not be any issue, the install happens from inside. However, I would need to make sure the window can be sealed weather tight, and if the storm window gets in the way, I would need to figure a way to seal it properly. You should not have any problems.

The next bay window request we get, I will be sure to make a video on that. The one thing I will say is, treat the measurements as "new construction" from inside drywall to drywall. Make sure the depth of the entire wall has been accounted for (very important!), and the need for the proper placement of the exterior corbels as added support. These windows rarely come up for us as of late, not sure why really.

Great video. Do those interior vinyl window trim pieces have a specific name? Where can I get some or do you sell them? I am in San Diego, so not the closest, but willing to make the drive since you make some great content. 👍🏼

Hi Adrian, the interior trim is called Jamb Extender or Box Trim. I buy it in bulk from Vinyl Visions in Corona California. Great products! Thank you for the kind words.

Thank you for posting the install process. The window is definitely watertight. How about a retrofit flush fin vinyl window on stucco? My new picture window and single hung Anlin windows have a bead of caulk on the exterior connecting the vinyl to stucco. The top and sides are caulked but not the bottom. Plus there’s a small enough gap on one of the windows at the bottom where flange sits on stucco that I can literally slide a thin piece of paper through. Is that a correct install?

Hi Elizabeth, the bottom being left open is ok, but the best possible way would be to caulk in the bottom, but leave a small 1" section uncaulked on either side for weeping purposes. The caulking should be tight on the top and sides, no gaps.

EPA requires a Lead test to be performed by a RRP certified firm on all painted surfaces being disturbed for home built before 1978 prior to commencing, was that done before you proceeded?

Yes, when leaving the main wood frame behind, it is essentially a pocket window. Saves money, and keeps you from having to break stucco or remove and replace siding.

so far after 5 decent videos not a single craftrsman incluiding this one is coverong the caulking, sealing insulating the sill gap and any flashing needed on the outside...I give this vid a 2 1/2 star for that crucial ommision

Why not remove exterior stops and foam and wrap the exterior brickmould and sill? That's how I do it so I don't have to remove the interior stops.

You can do that also, but the best practice to to install from the inside, leaving the exterior stops alone. All depends on the customer and situation.
