Caution, children are pretty lousy at hand washing cars. Not that it's scratched, but that they're not very good at remembering what parts they've washed once it's wet. I can definitely see where they washed it and where it only got wet 🤣

@@EvanLoxley oops, sorry, I didn't include enough emojis. The whole comment was meant to be joking. I actually found it to be pretty charming that you could see exactly where they washed once it dried, and mine are a few years older than 3. They were very excited to help. It was pretty fun, and probably kept their attention better than having them help me replace a valve cover gasket.

You may already have tried this. When I got the anti-skid service required it was one of the ABS-rings in the front that had rusted and cracked due to snow and salt. You can see if they are cracked either if you lift the car and look from the inside of where the driveshaft goes into the spindle. You can also remove the wheel and the abs-sensor and look down the hole and spin the axle to see if there any cracks. It can also be the abs-sensor but most of the time its a cracked abs-ring. Cheers from a V70 owner in Sweden

I highly suggest using some DeoxIT D5 spray on the connector/pins when you put it all back together. I tend to use it on a lot of older/dirty electrical connectors and seems to do a better job than regular "contact cleaner" spray. I find the easiest way to remove that look-pretty cover on the right side of the engine bay is with a 3/8 extension and 11 mil (-ish) socket. If you press it down on the top of the clip they’ll come together and you can then easily pull up on the cover. FWIW :)

I have been having an almost identical issue on my 2008 Saab 9-3 Aero. It runs and drives totally fine, but sometimes, it has the ABS, Traction Control, and check engine lights come on while driving. The code comes up as "Lost communication with Steering Column Control Module." I bought the car from an auction so I couldn't speak directly with the previous owner, but because I know someone that works at the local Saab dealer, I was able to find out that they had spent $3,000 replacing the Steering Column Control Module (Known as a CIM "Column Integration Module" on Saabs) along with the ignition, both keys, and battery in attempt to fix this exact issue. After doing some more digging with a Tech2 computer lots of forum research I also landed on the ABS Module being the culprit with my car. Faults in the ABS/Brake Module can cause interruptions in the Can-BUS System and bring down other modules as well. When the brake module in my Saab acts up, it takes down the CIM and ECM as well, which triggers the code I get. Its so strange how one module can effect so many others...I had a 2013 Chevy Impala that did the exact same thing as well.

@jrodigan5
@jrodigan5 2 жыл бұрын
@@ElliottAlvis The most fun! Haha. I also forgot to mention that when mine acts up, because it takes the ECM down with it, it won’t start. It stays running, but if you shut it off it won’t start. I have to let it sit for at least a few hours to let everything kind of reset itself before it will run again.

Every V70R video I watch makes me happy…that mine finally died. Don’t get me wrong, it was a good car, saved my life, as well as my wife’s life, after getting hit by two pickup trucks. But as much as you can chase after the electrical gremlins that will continue to happen, you’ll then start to see mechanical issues, especially those related to the transmission and angle gear. Given you’re willing to keep trying, the other thing I would suggest doing, is to add hood venting. I can’t remember who offered some vent grills for the hood, but they’re worth it given just how hot the engine bay gets, which could actually help minimize under hood wiring issues. And since your hood has a few minor cosmetic issues, adding in vents will only help visually.

Hopefully this saves a ton of money.. as they are the only company offering these service besides volvo the prices are crazy... but you want to keep your volvo on the road the service is vital. I have on 01 base s60 that is in need of the ETM repair and I would usually just have xemodex repair it but my funds are very limited so I'm going to order the digital repair parts and do it myself... Not the first volvo electronic part I have repaired as I had a 95 850 t5 with a bad abs module that I resoldered and put back together with no further issue. A bad accelerometer will cause a antiskid message AND a bad brake pressure sensor will also. Just fyi. And a trick to remove that plastic cover in the engine bay is 10mm socket around the claws to keep them closed lol

I'm optimistic! I think this is the thing that'll get this car to reliably work through the winter! But, I think you should burn some sage over the engine bay and in the interior to exorcise whatever computer module demons seem to be living in this thing. I don't think your assistant's 'Froggy' can be trusted...

I had a yaw sensor issue on my V70R. I sent the BCM for repair including the brake module. This was not the problem. Volvo shop solved the issue by rewiring the sensor that is below the passenger seat. It took 2 years to solve the issue.

@@ElliottAlvis Yeah. She so sweet I couldn't be too mad. I think I can buff most of it out. I caught the wire brush almost immediately. The bolt thing I did not. Also she and my next older boy left a jackstand close enough for me to whack with the dorr going to work the next morning. Good thing it's my DD beater wagon.

Must be something just with the R. My ABS/Anti-skid message came on like a month ago(07 XC70 Cross Country), and I took it up to the shop just to have the tires changed for winter, and an alignment check. Message is gone. ABS light is still on, but I still need to do the brakes, and probably swap the ABS sensors(car was beat to hell when we got it. My brother and I are convinced they hadn't ever done a tune-up on it, at 200k miles). With any luck, after that the ABS light will go away.

Do you mind giving us some prius content, like buying another prius to do racing, like a drag build with the stock hybrid engine but less weight and make it the fastest prius with the stock hybrid system in the world. Then Maybe try to make it even faster by moding the engine for more power while still keeping it Hybrid .I know what i Said here is a lot of work but it is very interesting content
@ElliottAlvis

I actually was going to do just that with a Prius C one day! I’d love to do a track build but retain the hybrid system.

Just a quick question, did you reset your codes after the calibration? Although it shouldn't be needed it is wise. I had the wrong type of bcm on my s80, someone had replaced it with a STC type not the DTSC type which is what I think you have on the R. As soon as I put the right second hand module on error went away (no coding needed). Vida has pics that lead to calibration/tests etc everywhere so always worth a click. With the steering angle calibration you only need to rotate the wheel 15 degrees one way and calibrate, but leave it at the 15 degrees while you calibrate. The instructions are further down the info page.
@ElliottAlvis
@ElliottAlvis 2 жыл бұрын
I did clear the codes after the calibration. But I didn’t realize the wheel needed to be held in the 15 degree position. Thanks for the tip Ben!

I know this sounds stupid but before you sent the module off, did you try to clean the contacts off and retry the module, with that car having such a water problem is very plausible that a connector could have been corroded.

Sorry popping in late on this. Put a small stack of newspaper (5 or 6 sheets) under each wheel. Then turning is MUCH easier.
