The process for old tread and riser removal is covered, including removal of old balusters. What is underneath? Could we learn something from the old craftsman? Could we find some treasure?

How do you straighten tilted stairs? It is separating from the wall and sloping downwards

Cool video, but you did not demonstrate how to repair the stairs separating from the walls.

that thing would be called a cameo, not a cartouch.

Hi mate. Good stuff. Regarding the risers, can you use pine timber? Is it strong enough? And some companies selling treads and risers are selling Oak engineered with MDF. What do you think about MDF for risers? Cheers mate.

Is there a way to tighten the bottom of the riser to the stair steps below that riser without opening the hole in the back of the stairs?

probably some well placed and angled trim head/finish screws. You would have to pre drill carefully

I notice it was coming off in pieces. Is there a way to take it apart to restore it & place it back together? Or would the wood be too old & broken down? The wood on what im working on isn't in rough shape like that, But it was all nailed together i kind of want to take it apart sand it all down & add screws instead of nails. Especially for the railing. But the old wood is way more seasoned & hardy than what we got today, so i'd to keep it as long as i can rather than replace it with some cheap baby wood.

Yes, in England, most people would repair this rather than ripping it all out wastefully, meaning you lose the historic character.

I don't understand why you're replacing it?

I don’t think those are chisel marks on the back of that riser. I think they would have use an axe - seen them in my Victorian house on floorboards
