We join Matt back in the workshop and follow his descent in to madness as he strips off underseal and treats any rust he finds. If you enjoy watching someone suffer you're going to love this!

I want to see this car done. For sure , keep that British Racing Green color it is awesome. The only parts I would have stripped back were the important structural ones or any that looked like possible rust. Just reapply the same stuff afterwards because it works well enough.

Worked for 2 weeks just removing the rubberized under coating on a 69 Plymouth Cuda.😬 Went through a box of dust masks and 3 pair coveralls. Absolutely told myself I would never do it again, ill pay someone else to do it. 🤫😊

Likewise there’s no chance I’m doing this again, if I ever get to this stage I best be rich enough to pay someone else to do it 😂

@@EvolveAutomotive a lot of people don't know this but the 60s and 70s Cuda were unibody and the front and rear sub frames were part of the body. After removing the undercoating I realized most of the seem sealer came off to. I had to reapply sealer to all the seems before I painted the under side as Chrysler said the sealer alone gave the car 35% more strength and rigidity. Not sure but I'll bet the new unibodys like your wagon get some strength from the new seem sealers also.
@EvolveAutomotive
@EvolveAutomotive 2 жыл бұрын
In fairness on this I haven’t removed too much seam sealer. Very surprising to hear they accredited that much rigidity to it though!
@troyw8338
@troyw8338 2 жыл бұрын
@@EvolveAutomotive yes it shocked me to, until I removed the rusted trunk floor and installed the new one. The rear frame is spot welded in a few strategic areas to the trunk floor and the sealer covers the entire seem area above and below tying the whole rear structure together with the braces going up to the roof. Some of the old seam glue was over half inch thick in the bracing areas. It was a mostly fun rewarding project in the end. 😊

Cleaning up the seam sealer is a pain in the but. Dry ice seems to work.

Thanks! It’s another Dinitrol product - 447. It’s overpaintable and available as an aerosol which was key things for me. I also decided against a more solid bed liner type coating like raptor.

bro you talk yourself down too much. you can do anything you put your mind to. step back and take it bot at a time. don't overload the brain. I know that's hard as you'll constantly wanna go through the process in your head but you'll get there and learn a lot along the way

Work with what we have, hugely lucky to be able to use a fully equipped workshop with a lift, downside is yeah has to be packed away each time. Nice bit about doing it in your garage is just leaving it exactly how it is and coming back to it later.

What would it cost to have something like this done to my e36 coupe? Any ideas?
@EvolveAutomotive
@EvolveAutomotive Жыл бұрын
You’d need to contact a bodyshop or even a specialist restorer, not something we would get involved or even know where to start with cost. Matt is doing this in his spare time.
