Here is the process I did when I corrected the E36 before selling it. I used the LE Polisher for the majority of the car with the Mirka 3-inch for smaller areas.

As Yvan describes it, the water spot remover removes the minerals from the paint, but the etching still needs to be polished out. The main point of using the water spot remover is so that you don't drive them in deeper when heating up the paint while polishing. He always shows using the water spot remover at the end of the decon wash process. Spray it over the panel, let dwell, then spray more onto a wet towel and go over the surface with the towel. Then fully rinse to neutralize the acid and bring the surface back to a neutral state. The DIY Detail version you used is very effective from my experience, without being overly harsh to the surface (or to your health). Also works great to unclog coatings for those of us up north where our cars get exposed to road salt.

That's because "water spot remover" is a dumb name that the industry settled on and that keeps getting perpetuated. Nothing you spray on is going to remove etching from a coating or paint. That is physical damage that can only be removed/reduced by abrasion. The point of a water spot remover (which should be called a mineral remover) is to remove the minerals so that they don't get driven down into the paint during polishing.

water spot remover like that, or the chemical guys gel stuff works if you catch it right when it happens. But if it cooks in the sun or sits over time, no shot. I've run into a few going past sprinklers at night before pulling my car into the garage and finding water spots on it the next morning. Those if they don't come off with regular soap and water after a couple days, will normally come out with this type of product and zero polishing.

But Matt the LE stalls like every other DA haha. The best water spot remover I’ve used is basically an acidic (diluted) cleaner. Follow up with a detail spray or rinseless wash. The spots don’t come back. If you’re hellbent on polishing them out, I would use the least aggressive polish you can find. Almost anything will work. I use Menzerna Final Finish when acid doesn’t quite fit. 😊😊😊

Have you used the new v2 N914 rinseless as a waterless wash before this? I've noticed it is pretty smeary and I've noticed a weird film left behind even when using it as a rinseless wash. Koch Chemie Rrw and Armour Detail Supply Hero are a lot better in my opinion.

Rupes and Shinemate all the way. Matt you really should try the shinemate cordless polishers. I have shinemates cordless rotary, 15 and 21 and the nano eb201 which is the best nano polisher on the planet. beats the shit out of pxe80. I also have HLR15 and HLR21. HLR15 is bit weak but the HLR21 is a beast. But so are those Shinemates and only 200g heavier than Rupes and 500g lighter than Milwaukee and the top end power is better on the shinemates. They also feels better in your hand than Milwaukees.

Matt that rookie polishing was more like improved garage
@jeffc6832
@jeffc6832 Ай бұрын
Improved Garage was defending the LE polishers. It was EC Details that did a "review" where he claimed that they stalled too much. He's just biased towards ShineMate which is specifically designed to automatically increase machine speed to reduce stalling. I guess that is a good feature for newbies (though I shudder to think of a newbie burning through an edge because they have no idea what they are doing)... I'd rather adjust it myself, correct my technique or use the correct tool for the job.

If you are stalling an LE, you have no chance of being decent at paint correction.

If you’re planning on coating this again why are you spot correcting? You’ll end up with high spots since the corrected areas will be lighter. Btw the mirka 3” is very good but the lhr75 is still king of the 3”ers.
@ObsessedGarage
@ObsessedGarage Ай бұрын
I just tape adjacent panels. Mirka is better than the LHR75 pneumatic.
@1thechosenjuan1
@1thechosenjuan1 Ай бұрын
@@ObsessedGarage the mirka is definitely better as far as noise for sure. What I meant was that the lhr75 produces better results in a shorter amount of time due to it having a 15mm throw compared to the mirka’s 12mm.
