When I first saw Chinchilla in a thumbnail I was put off by her nails. They are really over the top. But if you watch How To Be Me Live, you can see that the nails have a starring role in the video, in that they are an incredible tool of expression that Chinchilla uses in the video. I absolutely love the song, but also I love watching her singing it, it's so FELT and expressed, it's in her voice, the way she moves but also in her nails! I know that sounds weird, but just watch it, they look scary but somehow I see at points in that song that she gives him total love understanding and empathy as they sing, with the nails waving at him. I wish I knew how to say what I see and feel when I watch it, but now I see her hand movements with the nails, and her head movements as absolutely integral or fundamental to the emotion of the song. Please watch it! Maybe you'll change your opinion. She's only young, maybe she'll change her style, but she obviously loves dressing up and creating her own style, so let her enjoy it. It takes nothing away from what she's doing, even if it can't add because she's so great irrespective of her accoutrements. My experience with "being extra" is that I don't do it for attention or to hide. In fact it has nothing to do with others at all. It's art, expression, and to celebrate my life, body, and freedom. Saying that someone shouldn't do something for your own reasoning is missing that she has her own reasons. They may be different than my reasons, but she is not put here to please me, and I respect her choices as an artist. :)

I think that perhaps you're mistaking what her authentic self actually is with your perception of what her authentic self should be.
