We've been waiting to get to this one. Worth it. This song is a familiar story teller side of Ren coming out. It took us back to when we first heard Hi Ren. I dont know anyone else who makes music like this. He is a true artist. Everything Ren does is at another level.
Just learning about Ren these past 4 months with all of you has been a great experience for us both. There’s been so much great music and positive conversation. Thank you to everyone who’ve followed us down this rabbit hole. We’re gonna keep it going. Sue and I are looking forward to reacting to Ren’s new music 🌎✌️❤️

I’m not sure screech even had a girlfriend, I think the call was to Patrick’s daughter who is probably 17 or 18 and screech just thinks she’s his girlfriend but she just thinks of him as a little kid, which he is. I think Patrick is his boxing coach as in London lots of street kids are encouraged to take up boxing to channel their aggression. I doubt screeches ego would allow him to run to a friends house panicking and almost in tears but Patrick was older and screech respected him because he was his coach. I’m doing a breakdown of all the characters on my YT if you wanna look

Ren is the Original "Bardcore Genre Bender" The Master Bard himself ( Shakespeare ) would have understood exactly where Ren was coming from. Ren isn't just a songwriter but rather a Performance Art Master who blends music and character acting from all the styles over the last 500 years and makes it modern and relatable to all generations even if normally you may not be a fan of whatever genre he is currently performing. In recent interviews Res has mentioned he is in Talks with Netflix, Can't wait for that branch of the Ren Rabbit Hole!

It's the mark of a special artist that can elicit such visceral emotions in his audience through a screen, just him and his guitar. Each one recorded live and one take. The story came about when Ren saw a TV news reporter comment 'It's such a shame' after telling the audience of a teenage boy that had stabbed and killed a young prostitute in London several years ago. He felt that those words couldn't really express the far reaching ramifications of what happened. In this story Ren attempts to tell us how generational violence affects our society and children. Of how that situation is likely to have come to happen in the first place. When you watch this back again and contemplate further on it (which u will, trust me), you'll realise that Jenny was also 14 y/o and what the hell was she doing walking around in high heels with rosy cheeks in the middle of the night? What did she need to escape? It's then u realise that Jenny must've suffered a similar fate to her mother in that she was 'molested' by a guardian which must have led her to prostitution at that young age. She was probably saving up to get away from the whole situation when Screech attacked her. In my mind, neither were adopted despite separation and ended up with different foster families who messed them up (it's less likely adoptive parents would've been that bad as adoption in the UK is a hard, rigorous and lengthy process and not anyone qualifies). Furthermore, Jenny inherits her mother's 'deer in the headlights' reaction to violence whereas Screech seems to have taken on his father's quick to rage temperament. Anyway, sorry I went so long. It was a fantastic reaction (and I've seen many!) where u not only realised the Patrick/girlfriend affair (bc why would she be busy so late at night right?) but also guessed the ending by realising the date. Can u believe hardly anyone paid attention to the date?! 😮 Anyway kudos to you guys! 👏👏👍

The twins were 14. Jenny walked the streets a thousand times and in high heeled shoes. She wanted to escape. She was a sexually exploited child. History repeats itself. It’s a shocking commentary on child protective services. Children are the least funded group when it comes to actual care, with the least rights too.
@Codex7777
@Codex7777 Жыл бұрын
I think he was commenting on a much wider and deeper topic than that. Child protective services have a tough time. They're attacked if they don't intervene and are attacked if they do intervene. They're always the convenient scapegoat for the press and people love a bandwagon that they can jump on. What the situation was with child protection services, social services, healthcare systems, schools, care services, therapeutic services, fostering agencies and adoption services, we don't know. We can only speculate without conclusion, as they are never mentioned directly in the trilogy...
@TheWorldsEnd66
@TheWorldsEnd66 Жыл бұрын
@@Codex7777 Hi Codex7777. I work within Child Protection Services, though not US. Corporate Parenting isn’t working. Services are starved of resources to adequately support already marginalised children. With service delivery based on the demands of archaic legislation. Jenny, Screech and Violet desperately needed positive intervention. I agree it’s just one facet of this stunning piece of art. The reality of children’s services needs to be addressed. We’re failing these children. The lack of interest to rectify this are very real in their consequences. So I’m not knocking CPS, I’m appealing for reform and modernising service into the 21st Century. Thanks for replying.

SO much to take in with this brilliant Shakespearean tragedy. I get frustrated with some reactions when it's missed how he describes Jenny....why would a 14 year old be walking the same street a 1000 times, in high heel shoes? Almost no one seems to catch that. Also, for "Screech's Tale", it seems that almost no one catches that Screech's girlfriend and his friend Patrick, happen to be "busy", or not available, at the same time. Maybe they were together? This is literally the first reaction I've seen (and I've watched dozens) that caught that. It adds a whole other layer to the story. Also consider that Jenny and Screech were born side by side, and essentially died side by side, one street apart. Born on the same day (2005), died on the same day (2019). An entire family, mother and twins that never knew each other, wiped out by a cycle of violence. An abused mother, a 14 year old prostitute, and a 14 year old thug/murderer. Powerful stuff. In "Violet's Tale", the way he uses the acoustics of his environment to accentuate the song is absolute brilliance....and btw, not sure if you know this or not, but Ren is self taught on the guitar. Just one of many instruments he plays including drums, bass, & piano.The man is truly special. A prodigy. From what I understand, he wrote the first 2 songs after reading an article about a very young man murdering a young woman in London, he didn't write "Violet's Tale" until a few years later and that one was of his own making. He said that there are 2 songs so far that he wrote, that he knew in his gut were special. "Hi Ren" (of course) and "Violet's Tale". (He was right on both counts imo.) He also said he feels like he has a 3rd one ("Money Game" 3) that fits that same feeling coming out with his new album. He has yet to release it or shoot the video. It's coming soon.
@secondhandreactions

I definitely missed the true meaning behind ‘walked these streets 1000 times’ on this first listen. I thought he just meant like ‘she was normally safe going about a routine, but tonight something was different’. On the next couple listens I got it and a couple of people pointed it out now in these comments. I love how the song evolved the more times I’ve heard it. We’re so excited for money game 3! The first two were brilliant and if he’s doing the 3rd in this same feel it’s gonna be amazing. ✌️🌎❤️

Ren is just amazing! When i was at school in the 70s/80s there was a small traveling drama group called The Kneehigh Theatre company. There were 3 or 4 people that put on shows at all the schools in the area. They would perform real life situation stories in the middle of the school hall and the kids would sit all around them to watch the show. One of them played a guitar and narrated and sang while the other's acted out the story. The stories were not as dark as this, but this reminds me of school drama shows. Great video thanks.

Ren is helping, through sites such as this one, to provide safe spaces in which people can talk about these issues, sadly, in todays world. incidents such as these are rising and places to discuss them are getting less and less. due in part to hyper polarisation. no one takes any notice of anyone else if they're not in their camp. it just degrades into an insult fest. These spaces are very important now.

@DavidDArcy1975 Considering that the 8 is just to the left of 9 on both phone and computer keyboards, it is very probable that the person above made a typo and wrote '2018' when what they really wanted to write was '2019'.... Which is something you seemed to do a lot on your comment too. Why couldn't you just kindly ask the person to change it from 2018 to 2019 instead of insinuating that the other person is bad at math and a stain on their supposed math teacher's reputation without knowing anything about them? Or perhaps you just wanted attention?? I happened to have some freetime right now so I gave you some, but please be more considerate with what you say to other people in the future... Hey guys, been enjoying your reactions, especially the Ren ones. Anyway, while you have reacted to so many songs featuring Ren, his band and collaborations, there are still so many to go. So here’s a list of songs featuring Ren that I think you should put into your reaction queue: “Life is Funny”, “Humble”(with Eden Nash), “Power”, “What You Want”, “1990s”, “Genesis”, “Earned It / Man’s World / Falling”(with Sam Tompkins), “Bittersweet Symphony”(The Verve Retake) and The Big Push mashup in a laundromat “These Boots are Made for Walking / Satisfaction / Everybody”. Trust me, there’s still so much more. I’m 65 years old and I just cannot believe how many high quality (yet relatively unknown) songs Ren has been involved with by his current age of 33 @renmakesmusic #ren #bigpush

I would like to see him get something on Netflix but the more I think about it the more I think I would love to see him just release it on KZfaq. Either way I’m excited by this and rooting for Ren.

Hope Sue has recovered from that. It's a tough one I know. Such a really heavy subject but ridiculously beautifully told. Ren draws people in so expertly to all of his songs but when the subject matter is heavy and possibly triggering to some, it really hits harder. Ren is the modern day Bard (hence Bardcore) and I have never seen anyone do this. Well done Clay on catching a lot of the story - the more you think and reflect on it. the more strands to this story there are. It is intimated that Patrick was indeed "busy" with Screech's girlfriend. We are also left with the question of who exactly was the father of Jenny and Screech (Stevie or Violet's dad ?). Bit of context - Ren saw a newspaper article which the first two tales are largely based on. Violet's tale came directly from his own imagination to tie up the loose ends and put a bow on the story. Ren is hoping to use these tales and other bodies of work to pursue his dream of getting a Netflix series along similar musical storytelling lines. Ren has written two more completely unrelated "tales" which we can look forward to at some stage.

Thanks Chris - that was a roller coaster ride. I learned what bardcore is because of this video - and also that Ren pitched a Netflix series. That’s cool as hell. I bet he gets it. Ren is British, like myself, and our addresses don't go to the same kind of numbers that American addresses do. We don't have blocks that go on for miles and miles. Every street- or American block- is separate with a different name, and on big roads- such as an A road that is a major road through a city- you can even have a street on a street. For instance: Evergreen Terrace on London Street, so most house numbers never go above 100 unless it's a really long street. So any number in the thousands is almost always going to be a year. I'm only pointing this out as I have seen a few North Americans assume/speculate that it's an address, whereas a house with the street number 2005 is a completely alien concept to a Brit.

Yo man. My first time listening to you. I’m not trying to be a dick, but I am going to be. If you don’t want ads, pay for KZfaq. If you’re a reaction channel pay the measly monthly KZfaq fee so you don’t get commercials. Stop bitching about it. Do something about it. It’s easy. Now back to my regularly scheduled normal self: loving your reaction so far. Subscribed. Edit: this is one of the best reactions I’ve ever seen to this ever. And I watched 1 million of them. You guys are fucking dope.
@secondhandreactions
@secondhandreactions Жыл бұрын
You’re not being a dick. It’s an obvious solution. I had a bit of a of line in the sand about it. I’ve been paying for KZfaqTV since it launched. It’s more than doubled in price since then and now they’re running non-skippable ads on shows you’ve recorded. (Used to be able to fast forward everything) I get it. They gotta make money, but at least throw us a bone. They could’ve thrown in YT premium with all the money we’re paying and ads we now have to watch. So yea - at this point YT videos without ads is more important to me than my line in the sand. I’m gonna drop YTTV and just pay for premium. We’ve only been doing this channel 4 months. We’re still figuring it out. Over the next coming weeks, I’m changing rooms where we record, and getting a new computer system for better quality and smoother videos. I’ll add premium at that point. Thanks for watching and for the sub. We really appreciate it 🙏

Violet died thinking she was pregnant with one child (Ren's lyrics read "please let my baby stay alive"). She had had very little to no pre-maternal care - certainly not an ultrasound (which would have immediately shown the two fetuses) and maybe not even a fetal heartbeat check (although the second heartbeat can be missed in that early early exam). Victims of domestic abuse often avoid interacting with any kind of health care that might expose the fact that they're being abused, if they're not ready/are too scared to leave the abuser... and of course abusers can intimidate their victims/refuse to let them seek health care services, to try to prevent them from being convinced to leave (or have law enforcement end up involved).

@@secondhandreactions yeah - "please let my baby stay alive" sounds EXACTLY like "please let my babies stay alive" so he could EASILY have just written "babies" - almost every listener's ear would have assumed single baby, so the twist would still have hit on all the same levels. But he chose to have the only words Violet speaks in the whole song, be said around the word "baby," singular. Ren sometimes has typos/misspellings/etc in his lyrics, but this one doesn't feel like a slip-up/typo.
