Their harmonies are even more impressive on "How to be me" (llive). Must check-outs from Chinchilla's solo catelogue include "Fingers (live)", "Little girl gone (the official video and acoustic one)" and "cut you off"

Great insightful reaction as always, I knew you’d appreciate this. For more Ren x Chinchilla try “How to be me (live)”, no doubt someone will tell you the significance of the location they chose for filming the live version. You may also be ready for RENs “Tale of Jenny and Screech”, come to think of it no one is ever fully ready for it but, if you do, please include the third part of the trilogy “Violets Tale” ideally done in one session a total commitment of over 13 minutes but well worth it.

One of the other vocal coach reactors said the harmonies give the feeling of two people who meet while they are both going through something…they’re not always exactly on the same page, but they’re sharing a special moment of feeling seen and understood in an otherwise dark time for both of them. They told the shit out of that story. Their other duet (How to be Me - Live), is just as powerful and a bit more haunting. If you want to see what Chinchilla is about on her own. Her song Fingers, the live version for Hunger TV is an incredible performance.

I love these reactions - the perfect blend of technical expertise and fandom! Much as I love “Chalk Outlines” as a Ren / Chinchilla duet, it really is an appetiser compared to “How To Be Me”. For Chinchilla’s solo stuff, her live version of “Fingers” for Hunger TV is really something special.

This is my favourite song of the last ten years, they are awesome together...How to be Me ..LIVE is stunning and their busking track One dance/Drunk in Love is off the raw talent scale....then there is Fingers Live for Hunger TV by Chinchilla, so very special. Loved your reaction.

Ren loves Jeff Buckley…and his wobbly vibrato. I love how diverse his influences are, and how those influences express themselves in his music. He also told Chris Liepe in an interview that he watched Chris’ Jeff Buckley breakdown videos to develop that vibrato.

Great insight. I've seen a lot of reaction but very few mention the vibrato that I think is such a distinctive/recognizable part of Ren's sound. Another thing is the dynamics - he'll go from "shouting" to very quiet in a single phrase and I find that style unusually "Ren". I like these live videos because of the rawness. The highly corrected/tuned/computer-controlled music of studio versions all seem to blend into a dehumanized mush where all artists sound similar. It's the imperfections (intentional or not) that make this feel human and connected.

Great song, great performance. I personally find it really interesting how it looks like only Ren is mic'd up. Chinchilla controls how powerfully her voice is recorded by changing her position in the hall and the direction she is facing. Don't think I've ever seen a video done quite like this, or at least I have never noticed it before. I second many other comments that you really must react to her live performance of fingers. There is a part in it that is possibly the greatest bit of singing I've ever heard and the lyrics are powerful too.

Chinchilla is another rabbit hole. You should check out Her and Ren's duet of "How to be me...Another live one take video. And Chinchilla solo has a song called "Fingers" that she did a live one take performance of on Hunger TV. Fingers has a LOT to analyze vocally, you will love that one. I love hearing a professional analyse and appreciate these two very talented artists. Ren has a knack of attracting incredible talent to work with, and I think he also helps inspire them to be the best they can be - you won’t be disappointed exploring his other collabs with Chinchilla or Eden Nash, or Sam Tompkins, or Any others like his time with Trick the Fox, or The Big Push. As for Chinchilla - the common one of her solo things to go to next would be Fingers Live for hunger TV. The studio version of Fingers is great too but the live…its…you’ll see!

Some people have focused on how Chinchilla is slightly behind the beat and Ren ahead and then they come together (I think - I have to say, I am not good enough to hear it, but I can ‘feel’ something changes) - RedTopReactions did a very enthusiastic reaction where he describes feeling Chinchilla pulling the performance out of Ren - how she’s pushing him forward until they both combine.

@@sputukgmail It's funny, I disagreed with RedTop. I feel it's the opposite. I think Ren brings out the best with who he chooses to collaborates with and the chemistry they can create. He's picky about who he collaborates and wants them to shine. He doesn't try to outshine them.

I think he is talking about how when you are in your depths you will either draw and then worse walk around within the concept of death and self erasure. So when chinchilla says "the feeling goes and you draw a chalk outline." It seems to be portraying the first stages of depression where you are literally confining yourself by drawing the perimeter you then walk around in contemplating that final act so to say. And that walking around within that self made prison you are idk stuck with the thought. It just seems super metaphoric, but don't cry because there's a pill for everything. So just take this one 💊 wash it down and you'll be fine. Then that feeling grows and you create that cage by drawing your own prison as a chalk outline representing your demise. I may have been overly descriptive but I wanted to take home the idea that I belive is being portrayed in this masterful piece of art. Cough cough he is Shakespeare reincarnated cough cough only better cough cough 😜

Again, another over the top analysts from a vocal coach. Nobody wants to know what key he's singing in. We just want to listen to the fricken song. If you want to appreciate any music video. Avoid vocal coach reactions.
