Renaissance wax is simply amazing stuff. I know there are other waxes that are essentially the same but imo, this is the best protective wax for pretty much any kind of material (any metal, wood, and plastics/composites etc.) and is used in great museums to preserve their pieces of history, and if it’s good enough to preserve items HUNDREDS of years old then it’s good enough for me.

Regular paste wax works fine. I've been waxing my blued guns for over 15 years. Living in the Pacific NW means rain and lots of it. A days hunting in the rain would cover my old mod 94 Win with fine rust. Learned to wax, and problem solved. Start by removing the stocks so you can wax the hidden parts. Put it on liberally forcing it into nooks and crannies. After buffing with a cloth use a tooth brush to get the tight spots. And by gently tapping the bristles of the brush on the stamping letters and checkering you will get them buffed to. I wax at every cleaning. Don't forget the wood.

When you said "regular paste wax" does that mean you don't have to buy Renaissance Wax necessarily? For example, www.lowes.com/pd/Johnson-Johnson-16-oz-Floor-Polish/3384826 less than $7.00 for this Johnson's Paste Wax would be just as good and effective? Thanks

@@geico1975 Most commercial paste waxes contain a petroleum base which may or may not damage your finish. The cheapest safe option you'd find would be pure beeswax, which does an adequate short term job on wood, metal and leather. You can get beeswax pretty cheap locally through an apiary or through Etsy/eBay/Amazon.

~I've used this Wax for many years. A little goes a long way and I'm on my 3rd can. It's very good to prevent fingerprints. I always keep this Waxz on my shelf. ~It's what the Royal Museum of England uses on their important items, even on their old "paper" Documents to protect and preserve them. ~I apply three coats of Wax on my Blued Firearms and it's good for six plus Months. ~I've found that Meguiar's Ultimate Paste Wax is also very good. I use this on my long guns.

They use it on wood and paintings too, it was developed for museums. Not sure why you put on 3 coats though, it was developed to avoid buildup so the new coat removes the old coat so doing it 3 times is just wasting it, may be why you are on your 3rd can.

This is the same revolver used in his Flitz review. Flitz is only recommended for use on Hot Blued firearms. The Renaissance Wax is a good product. Use it sparingly, a microfiber towel will make it shine. Always clean the firearm after use. It will help clean up faster using Flitz Polish and use the wax after.

This stuff might be great in many ways but several reviewers complained about the very strong odor. I just use a silicone impregnated Rod & Reel cloth and I'm good to go.

Use this exclusively for all my guns including stainless, no more rubbing with oil or silicone cloth after cleaning, works wonderfully, I apply it with my finger though. Ought to see what it does to a blued colt python, it's purdy!

I don't know the reason but if your stainless gun is polished to a mirror polish the renaissance wax makes what I call micro scratches but other than mirror polished stainless this wax does amazing things! I started to put this wax on a mirror polished Mod 66 snub and that area started micro scratching and I had to re polish it to a mirror shine. On blued guns it is amazing! Also works amazing on making wood grips look like new. If you grips are in good condition they will really pop after a good wax job!

That milky-look you had on your 586 was likely just a haze on the surface of the Bluing and the Flitz Polish removed that surface. It sure looks much better on camera. I'm happy for you my Friend.

I have a thing with oil... can't stand it on my hands, like nails on a chalk board. I oil my guns minimally (internals only). I've been using this stuff for years and it is amazing, no oil on my clothes or hands, no rust, adds luster and polish, and it lasts a long time between applications!

I just bought a new shotgun w/blued finish and this Ren. Wax. I want to put it all over the steel parts but the gun came oily. What household product can I use to get the oil off before putting the wax on it? Does it have to be completely stripped of oil (on exterior) or just excess oil wiped off? This is all new to me.

Huh? This won't remove anything except the previous coat of wax. You can use it on parkarized finish, but you have to buff it more to get at that wax in the little microscopic pits of the parkerized finish.
