A series of races from Renaldo Nehemiah's heyday between 1978-1982, including several indoor world records and two of his outdoor world record performances. I'll add the full list of races later.

I was a hs soph at Penn 1978 when Nehemiah anchored Maryland's 4x200 and 4x400. Come back wins in both. 19.3 and 43.9 And the weather was awful. Cool, misty and wet. He was just 19 years old. A college newbie.

Nehemiah was one of the great ones. I do not understand why he is not talked about more today, that is 2021.

Probably because it’s so hard to find footage of his races. But yeah he was light years ahead of his time.

Steve, he was one of the athletes who would probably won an Olympic Gold in the 1980 Games. I have just been listening to John Walker talking about politicians.

The US boycotted the Olympics and then he played for the 49ers. I believe he would have broken his own record of 12.9 had he continued to run track!!!

He was a superstar in the track world - a generation too soon to make the real money that is in the sport now, but man oh man was he ever GREAT??

Bro Steve! How did you get all these vids??-They are all so RARE!! I have been a fan of bro Skeets since I was a child because I always thought he looked like my brother and watching him on that old Wide World Of Sports intro. He and I are both from Union County New Jersey, (he was born in Newark but moved to Scotch Plains) and is the reason why I joined my track team. I actually sent your vids to his IG account. Great job bro

Appreciate it brother. I connected with a track fan in England who has tons of old races that he’s filmed over the years. I reached out to him because I’m writing a book on Renaldo, and he sent me a dvd with all the races in this vid. So I had it converted to digital and uploaded it to KZfaq. Renaldo has a copy of the mp4, so he’s seen the whole vid. Thanks for the support my man.

@@stevemcgillhurdles too cool for words!! Renaldo deserves a NOVEL for all the work he did to allow professional athletes to run track and vice-versa. That Olympic boycott by Carter and the many lost years in litigation for Renaldo to be able to compete again was a sacrifice one man should not have to bear alone.

@@witnessfitness1 Yes sir! Amen to all of that. The chapter I'm working on now is about all the litigation. He broke a lot of ground for athletes today, many of whom don't even know his name.

@@witnessfitness1 totally agree. But that’s how it often works. How many modern NBA players know of the sacrifices Spencer Haywood made? How many modern MLB players know of the sacrifices Curt Flood made? That’s why it’s so important that we tell our own stories, so the sacrifices these people made are never forgotten or taken for granted.

I did not remember Rod Milburn still being such an impact player. He was pretty incredible in the first half of many of these races. We were so lucky to witness the Nehemiah / Foster rivalry.

Yeah Milburn came back after being banned for four years for running “professionally” with the International Track Association. He was still an outstanding hurdler, but Foster and Nehemiah had taken the event to a new level by the time he came back. But yes, he was still very competitive.

I thought he had the best form ever! Jack Pierce who was on my WHS track team had great form too but Skeets was a prodigious combination of both speed and seemingly flawless form.

Yes I agree! Nobody could take over a race like Nehemiah, but Pierce had beautiful form too.

@@stevemcgillhurdles Skeets is my all-time favorite because he just had it all and his work ethic was off the charts. Pierce always had great form and he also ran under 13 seconds. Great come from behind hurdler and sprinter. I know because we ran together for 3 years at Morgan

@@guygoodwin775 cool, if you ran together in college then you know better than I do. Surely, if you were to ask me who is the most fluid 110 hurdler of all time, Pierce might be at the top of the list. Renaldo was a great technician as well, and he studied the event nonstop.

@@Sough I like what I see in Tinch. He gets his hips tall, cycles the lead leg without letting it kick out too far, and has good speed coming off the hurdle. I think he has a great future ahead of him.

На мой взгляд- Неемайя- самая трагическая фигура в истории барьерного бега. Будучи абсолютно сильнейшим в период с 1979 по 1981 год он так и не стал олимпийским чемпионом, несмотря на серию великолепных побед и феноменальных рекордов: 13.16; 13.00; 12.93!!! ( За последние более чем 40лет рекорд был улучшен всего на 13 сотых секунды и это при том что качество широкое и дорожек намного улучшилось) Его решение перейти в американский футбол оказалось роковым для его барьерной карьеры. Он , безусловно, мог победить на ЧМ 83 и ОИ 84, но из за того что стал профессионалом, упустил эти возможности, а когда вернулся к барьерной карьере был, уже, не так хорош. Нового Роберта Хейеса( если не ошибаюсь- единственный человек побеждавшие на ОИ и выигрывавшего Супербоул) из него не получилось

All of your points are excellent. The 1980 boycott ruined his chance at Olympic gold when he was clearly the best hurdler in the world. But in regards to his decision to play American football, keep in mind that there was no legal professionalism in track until a year after he signed the contract to play with the 49ers. If track athletes had already been getting paid (legally), he wouldn’t have taken such a risk. As he has said himself, he had just graduated college and he needed a job. So football came at the right time. Still, it’s hard not to wonder how good he would’ve been if he had stayed with track the whole time. I think he would’ve run under 12.80.
