I'm from New Zealand and I have a 1986 Fuego Turbo with 53,000 miles (80,000km) sitting in the garage and I really enjoy driving her. She's fast, good looking, smooth, comfortable, quiet (plus rust free and has been totally reliable!!). Not bad for a car knocking 30 years old.

Here in Venezuela it was a very loved car. It sold like crazy. They're still running around. Kids here use them for street racing now.

Argentina is the best place for parts in South America. They were built there and are still very popular. Mechanical parts are generally still easy to get as many were used through the 1990s in the R19, Laguna, Trafic etc. I've really enjoyed owning mine but you have to know the weak points so check the electrics, rust on the tailgate, around the windscreen, and the front wings. The heater valve can stick and the seats get fragile over 150,000km.

I'd doubt more than a handful. With our general indifference to French cars I doubt there were many brought here in the first place; our love of road salt would have dispatched those to an early grave. I'm officially nominating you for a Governor General's award for keeping her running, it is a national treasure.

I'm in the USA. I almost brought one in 1983. I decided to go with a 1983 VW GTI. I probably would have had a hard time getting parts later. The dealer shutdown a few years later.

Still got a Fuego in my garage, 85 reg and in mint condition (I'm in the UK). How much do these even sell for now? Been struggling to think of a price.

Wow... you're in Canada and have one? I had a regular renault Fuego up until 2002. It was rusted to hell and could no longer keep it afloat. started falling apart and finally the rears spring mounts gave way. They died pretty quickly because of the salt we use out here.

I live in Southamerica and I found a 1983 2.0 GTX for a reasonable price.. I cant say it's in mint condition but no more than 4000 dollars would be required to leave it almost perfect, would you recommend buying? What parts are difficult to get?
