Add a degree or two to the camber angle on the front to reduce understeer. Probably set to 0 degrees to minimize rolling resistance, but does nothing for cornering. Really enjoying your channel.

Have fun. I am driving one snce 6 years and it is sooo much fun. Now with winter-tyres I cannot powerdrift so good tho ;-) Keep in mind that these power boxes (had this OVMS box once, with mobile data and GPS) it sucks your 12V battery dry really quickly.. Cheers

As always very helpful. I've just gone with modifying the stock steel wheel by 'banding' but am concerned about the extra weight so will hold off putting them on the car until I get a powerbox. At least that was I can appreciate the new wheels and hopefully get the added advantage of the extra boost the power box will give. I'm hoping to make the PB my next purchase in a couple of weeks. Also need to address the wider wheel arch issue. I have thought about an open wheeled kit car arch the likes of Westfield or Caterham. Can't wait for part 2 btw :)

Played with tyre pressures on the standard front wheels, can you adjust camber on the front? Maybe just never getting any heat into the front tyres, as its so light

This is great ! Currently dealing with similar modifications for my Spark EV. Just put Megan Racing Coilovers on and it made a huge difference. They may roll the fenders on that modified Twizy to fir the 150 wider tire. I want one of those mod boxes for my Spark EV.

145 used to be standard with on small cars in the 90''. Going wider will hurt your range. If I owned a Twizzy, i'd try to switch the rear wheels to the front and the front ones on the back. Also Brightstone ecopia are available in 145/80 and they are high the pressure type god for 4-5 bars and hard rubber so you'll be rolling like a bicycle. The lowest rolling resistance tyres I've ever used, and I have tried a few different. But you are right, narrow tires affects cornering but not braking distance as many believe.

Mud guards aren’t a testable item as far as I know. I’m looking to get some new ones fabricated anyway as the spray is a bit crazy in the rain. Despite the cool open wheel F1 look 😁

Yes they are bulletproof controllers. I’ve tried them all and last year and decided to use exclusively Sabvoton on my builds after 2 failed adaptto controllers.

How secure is this? Can't just anyone connect to that bluetooth dongle remotely and control the car from there? I know they cannot steal the twizzy if it is turned off or parked but I know they could shut the engine off and get the car to ransom by accelerating and regenerating hard repeatedly and preventing the driver from accessing the dongle to disconnect.

It means the BMS registered about 500 amps of current! (Overcurrent protection)

The understeer is a common problem. Renault does not trust you with the rear wheel drive, so they put on 125 tires in the front. A lot of Twizy drivers have changed ther tires from 125/80 to 145/70 in the front. With this modification the Twizy will be quite neutral. I also changed the backtires from 145/80 to 155/70. For some manufacturers you can also fit 165/70 on the back tires.(without modification to the fenders) But for me the 145/155 comb seems to be perfect.

The laptop is a mini PC, look up "GPD Win". No clue about the mobile phone, looks like a Xcover or Cat but has no branding. Possibly some satnav mobile phone monstrosity.

Yes that’s right about the GPD win, the smartphone is a project I was working on, it’s a digital two way radio that runs on android, I use it to test stuff as it has a battery that lasts about a week!

Changing the wheel size will ruin your car and have little effect on handling balance of the car. It will have some effect but not what your really after. The reason you have massive understeer is because Renault dialed it into the suspension making the car safer for less experienced drivers. What you need to do to reduce understeer is change the balance of grip in the corner not with tyre size but how much load is on each tyre in the corner this is done by suspension adjustment. At the moment the rear wheels have way more grip than the front. To change this balance you could remove the front anti roll bar this will make the car roll more in the front as you turn in lifting the rear inside wheel off the ground now this will definitely completely change the balance of handling It will do nothing but oversteer maybe dangerously so. But if you got yourself adjustable anti roll bars you could soften the front bar so to lift (unload) the rear inside wheel a kiss mid corner getting the perfect balance your after. A controlled skid!

When it's slippy regen doesn't make the tyres lock up, the wheels need to be turning to generate electricity so if they stop turning then they'll stop producing electricity, therefore allowing the wheels to turn again, acting like a form of ABS becuase of the nature of how regenerative braking works

Regen puts a force on the back wheels which is similar to the effects of braking. I’ve 180’d before on a slippery road when I had the regen current turned up too high and just tapped the brake. The twizy’s regen is raw, it will activate as soon as the brake contact switch is closed. (Although there is a recuperation curve)

For the Twizzy to gain type approval for the UK market it will have had to conform to UK construction and use regulations, I would imagine somewhere in there is a requirement to have covered wheels Indeed it is, Section 63 www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1986/1078/regulation/63/made

It would keep the looks similar but lot of trouble to go to and they probably wouldn’t be as light as racing wheels, also you’d still need the spacers to allow the extra width.

Wider wheels/tyres will give you more drag i.e. less range and won't necessarily improve grip on such a light vehicle. No mudguards will win you 3 points per wheel. As a four wheeler you must run mudguards on all wheels - full coverage.

Wheels are on now, No noticeable range drop. Massive improvement in grip can literally full throttle around bends even in the wet and understeer is gone...got inspected today on a police roadside test with VOSA, they didn’t have a problem with the Twizy without mudguards maybe as it’s a quadricycle... not sure.

Yes that’s right and actually the battery in the twizy only charges to about 95% the BMS is configured to charge to around 4.13v per cell rather than 4.2v

You can't have a car on the UK roads without wheel guards, it isn't just a mot requirement it's a road safety one and the car can be seized and compounded by the police.

It’s not a car though, it’s a heavy quadricycle. Not sure of the law regarding those. I got stopped on a Police and VOSA roadside spot check (huge operation with about 50 officers) yesterday and they didn’t say anything. I am still going to make some guards as the spray is a bit too much in the rain.

Pretty sure even Quads on OK roads have to have guards, it's a requirement on motorcycles as well that that must have a guard covering the width of the tyre, can probably be as short as you like tho as thats an anomaly of the UK law. I'd double check with a local MOT tester just to make sure something hasn't changed in updated legislation but it certainly used to be the case.

Because it’s so much fun, this little car out accelerates a lot of other cars (including my Range Rover) and it’s like driving a road legal go kart. Also this marks the start of the electric car tuning world, tuning cars used to be something reserved for mechanics that understand engines, the new breed will be hackers and those with electronics knowledge.
