The RenderMan Denoiser is completely new state-of-the-art denoising technology developed by Disney Research, which takes a new approach to denoising, using machine learning and training data from Disney, ILM, and Pixar. The Denoiser can significantly reduce render times for both feature animation and VFX, while delivering images of the highest quality.

I know it's for renderman, but would you be able to use the denoiser for other renderer's also (maybe as an external application?)

It does work as a standalone app. You just drag and drop the rendered frames you want to denoise onto the executable file, although I have never tried using non-renderman frames, I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Does the denoiser operate on a frame by frame basis or is it a temporal denoiser? I think it would be interesting to see the temporal coherence with those low sample renders!

renderman 24 denoiser already has an option for frame by frame denoise. I assume 25 also can do it.

The Denoiser has multi frame processing and is temporally coherent. It was designed for animation and motion blur.

I need to do more testing, but so far I am not getting "images of the highest quality" - quite the opposite, my results look significantly worse than what Optix and Intels denoiser produces. A blurry, splotchy mess - it also takes over 30 seconds to denoise a 1080p image - quite disappointing if you ask me. I hope its a stupid user-error and it's just all my fault.

In my tests looked terrible bad too. Its good for 1 frame, but for animation,... Maybe we need a tutorial for know the tricks

Hi , does none commerical renderman 25 support the new denoise method in maya patch render ? i cant see the denoise in the render images !!!

Notice how the texture on the box to the very right is changing with different sampling. If renderman's denoiser uses AOVs the diffuse textures are the easiest part - you just don't touch it. So are those fine like wine GI splotchiness or something else?

Does Renderman 25 require a GPU for it’s new AI denoising? I was super excited to try the non-commercial RM25 for Blender but for the life of me I can’t get the denoiser to work. I don’t have a GPU so I’m using a CPU for rendering. I run the render in RIS but get an error like “no CUDA device detected.”
