This is a video in my new Core Concepts series -- designed to provide students and lifelong learners a brief discussion focused on one main concept from a classic philosophical text and thinker.
This Core Concept video focuses on Rene Descartes' work, The Meditations, specifically on meditation 5, in which he discusses the properties of things, which may only exist within our mind and not in an external world, but which would have their "true and immutable natures" discoverable by the use of our understanding. Our ideas of these would be innate ideas, not derived from experience, but as it were born with us, i.e. present in our minds as soon as we exist, and ready to be brought to light by the application of our thought to them

Dear Professor, when you say, 6:13," it is that they're stored in, and we shine the natural light upon them" Do you think that D is thinking the same as Plato's recollection of knowledge that ( for example) geometry? Thank you in Advance

It's obviously not the same, since Plato thinks we have memories of the Forms which we saw in a previous state of existence. There are similarities, yes, but they're not precisely the same
