We wish we had a way that the general public could test drive these cars. Naturally, our insurance company would freak...but enthusiasts that have a really good idea how the stock platform handles and behaves, would be astonished at how well the conversion compliments the platform. In the 928, for instance, the 'turn-in' response is no longer dull and lethargic. The MUCH lighter LS makes the 928 feel and respond much more like a 944 quite honestly!!!

@@RenegadeHybrids that is great steering/handling is also improved. Originaly the 928 steers quite heavy/bulky. My respect for your effort!

The cowl was custom fabbed with as little deviation as we could from the original lines of the car. Yes, there is a slight seam, but to weld to that factory aluminum hood without distorting it over it's vast expanse, was just a bit more than the customer or Renegade wanted to tackle. Furthermore, we didn't want to add a bunch of filler after the hood welding, so it was agreed the seam would stay.

@@RenegadeHybrids i agree 100 percent. I used to metal fab and truly understand the expense and time. A slight Cowl looks pretty good on the 928. But to really stand out it needs to be done right. Not blaming Renegade at all. I know you guys are doing what the customer wants I get that. When I saw the cowl hood first thing I thought of was a old 78 300hp 350 monza Spyder that i had in 81 and I bought a bolt on cowl hood like that. It looked bolt on and I didn’t like it. I didn’t use it after a mock up. But I will say that LSA 928 you guys built is killer. 👍

@@RenegadeHybrids Absolutely! It's what a 928 *SHOULD* be.

The 928 was notoriously front-heavy with the weight high in the chassis. This is why they went with an aluminum hood, front fenders, and doors. They managed a decent handling touring car, but nothing like a 944. The oversteer is driver-induced. Good for video! Lol.

This had the big GTS brakes already. All good!

Yes, the torque tube was changed in this car BUT going to the Corvette components are not necessary. The 928 came with a 5 speed and an automatic. We have kits for both without moving to the Corvette transaxle. The 928 auto transaxle was made by Mercedes and it's a fantastic unit. I don't believe we'll do the Corvette drive train ever again...not really worth it. The stock Porsche transaxles work perfectly with ZERO modifications to anything from the torque tube on back. It's our easiest conversion! We say, forget the Corvette option, just keep it simple and stay with the 928 torque tube and transaxle. This particular customer wanted the Vette option, so we did it.

It's not "if", it's "when!" They were good many years ago, but in comparison to what we can do with modern LS engines, there is no comparison. The remainder of the car is still quite capable and very stylish even in today's standards, it's just the engine that has not aged well.

@Nintendo8bit.no Yes, and no. Sound is subjective. Our installs using certain mufflers like elements from Borla, have a Mercedes V8 sound in my opinion. It's not quite the 928 note, but it's certainly not like taking your 928 on a deer hunt! Haha!

The stock transaxle and torque tube work good, but in this case, it is C6 Corvette components. Not our usual kit for sure.

Yes and yes. We remove 180lbs off the front of the 928 by doing the LS conversion. That makes a huge difference!

Crap... We did scale and corner balance the car, but I didn't save the cut-sheet on that. Sorry. The car had about 250lbs of stereo (at least) and a full custom interior. Not sure we saved much from stock just because of all the speakers and amps. However, I got the cross right at 50/50 and I believe the front-back was 49/51. Usually the 928 is front heavy a bit, but the stereo and the lighter LS moved the bias rearward a bit. This is totally a guess, but I seem to remember this heavy beast sitting at just a tic over 3500lbs. Overall weight I can do little about. But where the weight is distributed is the true meat and potatoes! Just my recollection. Thanks for asking.

@RenegadeHybrids No problem. It's still noticeably lighter than the Camaro or Caddy it was meant for. Bet the aerodynamics is better as well. Guessing, of course.

Best advise, make friends with your local Porsche repair shop! They will diagnose an IMS bearing failure that shelled the engine and the 997 owner won't pay for a new one...or wait several months as they try to find one. The car will sell for cheap!

It was a really big deal for so many years, but it's died off for the most part. We wouldn't have survived 40+ years on some BS engineering. Plus, P-car conversions are everywhere now. I think the purists are just happy some otherwise dead chassis are still getting road miles even if they are powered with something other than a leaky-slow-heavy-German engine.

In comparison to a 914 with similar HP and 900 lbs lighter...yes! However, nothing quite drives like a proper 928. They are awesome!

@Tenasedeinc Why? Please consider they are heavy, very large, and they have a chronic problem with the cylinder sleeves shifting. You may as well just stay with the 928 engine. Good luck.

The 928 was plagued by a massively heavy engine. Turn-in was dull and unremarkable. Front dive under braking was a big issue. And balance mid-corner on the edge was a bit scary when the car climbed out of the roll-center, abruptly twisted the Weissach rear suspension, and tossed the rear into a tank-slapper. With far less weight on the front, more balance and torque under the right food, and a lower CG, this version of the 928 feels closer to its little brother...the 944!

Really? How so? This car isn't for sale. Most car salesmen don't drive a car they aren't selling in a video that isn't trying to sell a car. Sure, but Scott can drift a city bus. The better question is, does it handle as good or better than it did previously? With much less weight over the front, the slow/dull turn-in that was characteristic of the stock 928, is now quick, precise, and down-right easy!
