In a new episode of our web series Futura, Lux Capital Managing Partner and Co-Founder Josh Wolfe visits the offices of Lux portfolio company Anduril Industries in Irvine, CA for a conversation with Palmer Luckey, Co-founder of Anduril.
Palmer is the designer of the Oculus Rift and founder of Oculus VR, which sold to Facebook in 2014. In 2017, Palmer founded Anduril Industries, a tech company developing some of the most cutting-edge technology in the defense sector. What Luckey is doing is right in many aspects.. In Turkey, companies take government money to develop promised products. But contract does not punish if they fail.. So, incoming money does not depend on the success of the implementation.. When the project is unsuccessfully over the same company files a new product, starts taking money again and again.. On the contrary of that, Luckey has to make a viable product to sell.. And looks like they do.. The tech people, including me, are reluctant in developing military systems so called "defense systems", which are, in practice, assault systems.. I've been telling that civil tech is much more advanced than the military tech for over a decade.. However, that's started making military weaker and weaker against adverseries "defense" (assault) systems. Someone should equilize that. Luckey is doing that as well.. When I come across a member of military, I see deep ignorance of the tech world.. They learned the tactics but think like they were in 1980's..

Very cool tech and very cool video feature. One point: the narrative about the breadth of diversity at Anduril is not supported by video of any women or people of color at work; ironic to hear the overlay without supporting evidence. Something to consider.
