I've always maintained that college professors who assign group projects and don't give you time during class to do it need their tenure pulled.

Students should be able to succeed or fail based on their own work. They should not be dragged down or held up by others. My policy on group projects: I will gladly help the people I'm in a group with, but I refuse to carry their load for them.

Ah yes...the joys of group projects. Back in HS, I always ended up doing the whole thing by the end cause you'd get THOSE teammates. In college, my best friend took lead on our project document, and I was her assistant lead (was dealing with medical issue at the time). I found out that some of our teammates had done 0 work on their parts of the project, and she was overworking and stressing herself trying to do it for them. I told her flat out that...for those pages of the document, leave them blank with the name of the person who was supposed to write them. Then we let the teacher know as well, so that those who actually did their work got a grade while those that refused got the grade they deserved. Yeah, wasn't putting up with that BS in college where we're supposed to be adults.

It reminds me of a project. We split into 5 teams In my team I got. A kid that couldn't do much (He can work but I don't mean to offend anyone and i'm sorry if I do but He had some kind of dissability and from my team he ended up being the most help), a girl lazy and looked at her phone and another girl lazy that looked at her phone. We got the most boring theme. [Bank Accounts] and we had to make a book about it. We had a year to work on it. I did The editing and information finding (Wikipedia, Kill me but I couldn't care less with that team) and in the end I made a kind of a presentaion. I'm not good at speaking to people that are more then 4 and so I said they would do the presentation since the only other thing they did was find about 2-3 pictures. Sadly I didn't account the factor that they didn't know what was in the Book since they didn't help so I ended up making a mess presentaion mumbling and not even remembering what I had in there. Thankfully the teacher understood when I explained how I did all the work and I got a good grade. I could let it go and say we all did it together so they got a good grade but they didn't deserve it. | | | | Thanks to whoever read my story. I don't usually right these kind of comments but the video gave me a chance to share it! also sorry if the english are not good. Not my native launguage and I try to type fast!

Felt like I was reading a script from Jaiden but man I feel bad for you. I’m not good at presenting projects either but yours was far much worse than me. And I agree on how they didn’t deserve to get a good grade also

My problem with group projects was the opposite of everyone else's problem. My class was all go getters. So everyone pulled their weight but me. Not for lack of trying but because no body listened to me. So it's why when I could. But if I was in a group project about history or English they always reached out to me for questions. When we had a group project about the Illaid not only my group asked me about their questions but every group came to me. I've read the watered down version of the illaid a couple times and studied the full thing alot for fun so I didn't mind that

lol I had a similar experience in high school. In my 10th grade language arts class, the teacher made me a kind of the unofficial class tutor because I was the only person in that class who found any of it interesting. Anyway one time we had to make a short video following the formula of a greek tragedy. I ended up pretty much writing everyone's scripts.

I'm late to this but I also had similar experiences. The compromise for me was having the project on my computer so I could do my part outside class, since I would be kept out of the loop anyway. So by having the project on my computer, I can at least contribute something and it'll be done at a pace where nobody gets left behind. By nobody, I mean me of course.

Went to college, every single finals week an ambulance would be parked outside the library because people would overwork themselves and pass out and need medical attention.

@@vtsoi4413 not really, most if not all if the ones who were in that kind of shape were the same ones who never showed up to class and barely participated, who were then trying to cram a whole semesters worth of knowledge into an afternoon once they realized they couldn't skate by any more. If anything, it was just karma catching up with them.

I can understand that group projects are supposed to teach people that "you need to learn to work well with others, even if they are literally weighing you down and causing unnecessary stress and anxiety because that is likely what you will deal with it in the real world." I hated this when working with complete strangers, there were a few group projects that I knew the classmates very well and did a great job working together, but some were so stressful and I was anxious that I would end up being the weak-link (but rarely that was that ever the case, usually the opposite). Now, as an adult with a full-time job, there are people that I'm supposed to work with that are complete garbage at their job while I'm busting my behind to keep up with the normal day-to-day stuff. I mean, they are the kind of people that I would not feel sorry for if karma came back to bite them and lost their job. In short, group projects can suck, they still don't prepare you well enough to deal with crap like lazy coworkers that are literally there for the paycheck and don't care if they are terrible at their job.

I had a five minute short film group project my senior year that I contributed way too much on. However, it wasn't because i had bad partners. They were all really great. I just got very over ambitious. I'm normally a very lazy guy. Something about it just made me way more ambitious. I took on filming, editing, sound designing, a bit of acting, and even hand drew some animations for it. I went fucking nuts.

As far as the asian girl is concerned, if we're going to the extremes, her parents made her cram so that she had the best chance of getting to college but had little experience beyond that, it's no surprise that she crashed and burned. Otherwise, she was just lazy.

In high school, I was often the person left out. There would be discussions on what to put into say a PowerPoint, and they would never listen to my suggestions. So because of this, whenever we had a project that required a computer, which each of us had a school-assigned laptop, I would insist that it's put on mine so at the very least, I could make all the edits just so I'm contributing something.

Yeah I didn't enjoy a lot of group projects, and I understand that it's supposed to help you learn teamwork in an academic standpoint (and for some jobs) but almost every single time I got into a group project I had to be the one to carry them. Like in middle school we had a social studies project to do something about Egypt, explaining its culture ro something. And I had taken initiative by asking the question of who is available to do what, and the day before it was due one of the partners who I charged with writing the paper told me she couldn't print it out so I had to, then I saw the person in charge of the art of our poster board wasn't even halfway done! Thy only had a picture of hieroglyphs and a quarter draw and colored sphinx. So we had to have all hands on deck just to finish it before we were called up to present ours. I think I only had one good partner experience, we did a project on jellyfish and they pulled their end and I pulled mine. Still don't like them as much.

I hate group projects. I'm hearing-impaired in both ears (hearing aids), so I'm immediately ostracized from doing a lot of work because other members believe that I can't do anything normally - I currently attend a private university that is difficult to enroll in, as well as the fact that I was in the honor roll in high school from excelling in math and participating in ROBOTICS.
