I too have crippling health anxiety and have had since 2018 after an osteoporosis diagnosis that was delivered my a Dr in THE most brutal way as a way to get me to take brutal meds even though I’m strong and healthy and have never broken a bone. The anxiety escalated even more after a close family member went through a cancer journey and now as I’m faced with another family member on the same journey, my health anxiety is shrinking my life as I monitor for symptoms of my own. Listening to these success stories gives me hope with not only my anxiety but a host of body aches and pains. Praying I also find my way out. Thank you Dan and also thank you to those sharing stories of hope for people like me. 😊

This is Rachel from Idaho here. This is my story almost exactly, except even worse head pain. I am a year into my tms journey and I am feeling so much better. I just went skiing yesterday and it was great!! You were the key factor in my recovery Dan! Your easy laid back approach and just living my life was just what I needed. I am so grateful for your advice and videos. You are doing a great work! Keep going everyone!

This is my story. But everybody keeps saying I push too hard, I do too many things. But nobody can ever find anything! I actually had a coach tell me if I keep living this way, I'll never heal. But what am I healing???? My scans and tests are all healthier than they ever have been. I am also an athlete, despite all the things. It's not easy some days, but I don't stop. I moved my house and business and ran into SO MANY obstacles recently. And boom 💥 flare. But I know what happened. My mind thinks I made a HUGE mistake. Even if I did, pain is not warranted. So I'm working on that now, and I don't believe in mistakes. Lastly, my ANKLE has been so painful and I went on a treadmill and the next day, gone. But my head is a hard one, I won't ever give up. this success story was one of the most helpful i've seen. i experienced that same sort of head "pain" for almost a year, and it comes and goes still. plus, i've been in cycle of health anxiety for a few years now. i'm trying to be consistent with messages of safety, not giving symptoms attention or fearing them, being indifferent, and assuring myself that i'm okay...the being consistent is the hard part! and i loved the "my body is talking to me!" thank you renny and dan!

This was SOO valuable! ‘Our body talking to us’! Yes! It’s so normal to develop health obsession/ anxiety when doctors can’t find anything and you suffer big! I promised myself to never go back to google again if a symptom pops up. I’m unlearning my pains but also relearning my trust in my body and health! Very well explained Renny, congrats on ending your suffering and taking this new healthy path! Thanks for the great coaching on this Dan! Health anxiety has to be more spoken about in combination with chronic pains/ symptoms in my opinion. 🙏🌻🤗

Sometimes I think my body like a pinball machine. Pinging out pain as ball bearing hits lol then the health anxiety "could it be" thoughts start. Am going to try saying it's my body letting me know I'm alive and well.

Thank you Renny and Dan, this was a really good interview!! I'm similar to Renny in that my issue started with a severe headache that came on suddenly, having never suffered from headaches before. And like Renny I had all the CT, MRI, bloods etc which all came back normal. The fear of what it could be led to more pain symptoms which led to health anxiety and crippling daily anxiety and panic attacks. The anxiety felt worse than having the original headache!! I've been working on the calm reassurance and telling myself I'm safe and living my life despite the symptoms, which is challenging, but Rennys story has given me more motivation to just keep at it!!

Thank you Renny & Dan - so insightful I really hear you regarding the health anxieties… I too began to realise in time - it was that same familiar hyper vigilance ..… being on alert ready for the next symptom/disaster blah blah… so happy that I rarely do that these days and if I do I call it out! I learnt so much listening to your conversation.. I’m so sorry you e been through the whole medicalisation experience- wonderful that you are out the other side! Its crazy that this individual is describing my situation exactly. Not only my situation but the steps one takes while operating on a self diagnosis/google frenzy trying to figure out what is happening and what could be causing the pain. It gives me a sense of connection and a feeling that we're not alone and this is not a ME problem but an issue that many seem to struggle with. Thanks for uploading this Dan. Thank you Dan, and Renny for takeing the time to share your journey, it seems we all have a catalogue of very weird symptoms, it's so reassuring to know other people have them too,before I knew what they was all about they were very frightening, because like Renny I couldnt work out what they could be , and no one could give me any answers, when you keep getting hypers and loosening the strength in your muscles ext, so to find your vidios were a myrical, and took all the wondering and fear away, not only that knowing that your not the only one with these funny things going on, when youv only been used to people around you that don't experience these things, it such a relief, the success stories give you so much hope🌞

Great video, my story is the same as this gentleman’s. Diagnosed with NDPH. I just started dans group and I am very confident I will be a success story very soon!!! Doctors don’t know diddly squat!

Thanks for sharing your story, Ronny. I had those shakes for a couple of years, especially at night or when reclining. They are so NOT fun! Health anxiety is a tricky beast to wrestle with for many of us. Great job. 🙏🏼✌🏽

My big thing is severe anxiety (which is just TMS PDP in another jacket). This morning (Sunday) I decided I'm gonna drive right into the city of London about 2miles from my home. Major roundabout that's now being changed, under construction 3years. There are classes and theatres I want to attend but need to know the way. My brain overwhelmed, shiny high rise buildings edging the kerbs , very poor signage. Missed my turnoff lol sat in traffic then had to take a u.turn (no idea if illegal or points on my license, time will tell) anyway I got back on track and continued back, got shopping, got petrol, walked down by the river etc. So many symptoms but am proud of myself for doing this. Listening to Renny given me more confidence, totally going to focus the anxiety as just TMS PDP. Thanks

Anxiety . It’s something that comes with a mass amount of symptoms all by its self. And health anxiety ...let’s create symptoms that look just like illness and other peoples symptoms . 😮

Yes, but anxiety itself is not dangerous. It's a state of being. Getting scared by anxiety ensures it will continue. It is all a response to the brain perceiving danger. Safety is the way out.

I completely relate it too has consumed me. I am pretty sure I’ve lost the third of my income as I’m entrepreneur because one I just didn’t feel well enough to be at my desk and two I was researching it all the time. What he also demonstrated, with consistent awareness and practice, we can step out of that cycle. Once we are out of it, we realize, it was never vicious. It just seemed that way.

I've suffered chronic pain on the back and top of my head for the last 4 years; it has caused me no small amount of depression and anxiety. A regular headache isn't so localized on the scalp. I got a cat scan and the mri which showed nothing. The pain comes and goes in cycles but it's definitely connected to stress. Last February I discovered Howard Schubiner on KZfaq and I realized his mind body syndrome described a lot of my symptoms. It's very unnerving to feel pain in the area of your body so close to your brain.

Thanks for sharing this. I’ve done years of research (and experienced myself) health anxiety and I honestly believe that TMS/PDP is in many ways, health anxiety. If you think about it, TMS IS health anxiety that is localized to one area, one or more symptoms, a fear around a specific pain, etc. Dan have you ever thought of having some interviews with health anxiety practitioners to help both communities?

Liz Gil 1 second ago Hi Dan, if I may recommend someone to speak to about anxiety it would be Charelle (I don’t know her last name, sorry). She has an amazing recovery story and is a health anxiety coach. I’m currently suffering with chronic pain, tinitus, and severe health anxiety and watching her videos on her channel-Charelle thinks- and your videos have made a huge difference for me. I don’t think she’s a professional practitioner, however she has a lot of insight and information about it. At the very least she may be a good recovery story to share. Thank you for all you do Dan! As a long term health anxiety sufferer Renny's story is so familiar to me. What alot of people dont understand is that anxiety is not just feeling nervous, it creates so many painful and scary symptoms and the more we worry, the worse they get. Trying to recognize that its anxiety and distracting myself with things that I enjoy can be helpful though it's not always easy to do. I've definitely seen an improvement in some of my symptoms since I made the TMS/anxiety connection. I'm not there yet but listening to other people and their stories makes me realise it's not just me.

It's all the same thing. Symptoms, including anxiety are created by a brain perceiving danger. Teach the brain we are safe and the symptoms and anxiety can go away.

Theres a label for everything these days but I try and remind him we are all human beings and unfortunately mental health acceptance still has a long way to go and there is never enough help.

Thank you. I am back in my old job after 2years, while still having the same symptoms. Weirdly when I am at the job, my symptoms are less. In the mornings when I work from home or on the weekends the symptoms are bad. Today was another day with bad symptoms. Trying to stay calm.

That is a very common experience. When we are engaged in something other than thinking about our pain, symptoms settle down. That's proof your brain is creating the symptoms based on perceived danger.

I have severe headaches and migraines as well, almost daily. I know and belief it's perceived danger signal. I can see that very clearly for myself. The problem is; there's a lot of ongoing stress, worry and trauma in every day life concerning my three special need kids. Most days it's like hell in our home (and that's not a term I would use easily). We receive a lot of help from diverse organisations (which also puts on to extra stress, with all the appointments, observations, paperwork etc.), but it's not likely to change in nearby future. So how can you teach yourself you're safe when you are in the middle of such survival mode (with a lot of suppressed emotions about the whole situation). Btw, I'm going to a therapist, but with no result in a year. He says it's difficult to make changes because of the ongoing trauma and survivalmode we're in.

I completely understand where you are. And I recognize your daily life won't be changing anytime soon. However, there is no need to hurt. Renny mentioned cutting off those catastrophic thoughts with the anxiety, I find this very very hard to cut them off so am stuck in the fight flight loop all day for a long long time it's exhausting and scarey. If Renny reads would like to know how he cut off those thoughts. Anxiety is a beast and stops me doing much. It's worse than the pain although as he said and you say very connected, for me the anxiety is worse by far. Living in this fearful state every day is hard and depressing.

Hi Julie I was the same as you stuck in the anxiety loop. What helped me was listening to Dan and reading a book (I got the audible version) by Barry McDonagh called DARE. I also got the DARE app. Both these things have helped me immensely I now get out and about freely with minimal anxiety. I know Dan won’t mind me mentioning DARE as he’s occasionally recommended it to people with anxiety.

@@robertasmith3437 thank you I do have the DARE book and on audio but don't seem to be able climb this mountain of anxiety. It's very difficult. Pleased you have been able to get out and about. I think I've become so afraid of the adrenaline and all the stuff and symptoms that go with anxiety. Feel stuck with it.

I was afraid of everything especially my symptoms of constant high nervous arousal but over time things did slowly start to settle down. It’s not easy I know but baby steps and perseverance can take you a long way. Take care x

Omg the health anxiety!!! I have had the same thing happen as soon as my pains started to dissipate I started with the health anxiety. I was wondering why this was going on.

I’ve had constant left side chest pain for 12 years now. Had all the tests and my heart is fine but I can’t accept that nothing is wrong… it’s the worst feeling ever. I’ve watched all of Dans videos and am trying to teach myself I am safe. It’s not working but it’s all I want.. so sick of this

Morning. I’m getting better of my anxiety but I’m bothered with a sore back. I can’t find a pain killer that works for me. It’s holding me back from getting back a normal life. Iv had a scan & doctor saying it’s wear & tear. I’m a 74 year old woman in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿.

Calm indifference is where I play right now .. medically I’m ok but was referred to neuro specialist but they haven’t called back so I’m thinking just self healing.. so calm indifference is where I’m starting to play for past few days. I’m doing this to control anxiety.. no more panic ha attacks just three days into it wait one few mins flare up but that’s it. So calm indifference please wave over me more often . I’ve decided I have Chronic head pain TMS and I’m on my way thru healing. Love Dan❤❤❤❤ his work is truly a walking angel on earth❤I just hope my headaches leave me soon. Four months of them

I think it's best to go to a neurologist only as a kind of last resort (or not at all). (An osteopath physician actually told me this once). Mostly they will just worry you by telling you about all the things that it "could" be, but without any method of actually helping you.

🤔 mmm. For me excluding the real catastrophic things by a neurologist was helpful too. But labeling me afterwards with unexplainable chronic illness was not good either..

I do agree that getting an MRI to rule out anything catastrophic like an aneurysm or tumor is important. Rule out the big stuff, then rule in TMS.

The same here shaking legs and arms feels like my feats is round. Needles and pins and so on. It’s so horrible to be so scared al day long and everyday it’s more and more. I feeling is we’re is Marie? Is she gone? Who is this only fear and pain. I listen every dag at the videos but it’s like there is something that’s sitting on my shoulder and saying you don’t have TMS the inner critic is very concerned. And I feeling hopeless. I talking to my self but will it work even if I have a hard time to convince my self that I am safe?

Some people say it is. I have spoken to tons of people trying to fix symptoms with diet to no avail. I believe symptoms, including fatigue come from the brain as a result of it perceiving danger.

I am currently dealing with health anxiety and it has been my biggest symptom over the years. Every health scare became catastrophic. Recently, I was diagnosed with OCD. IT makes sense because OCD relates very closely to Health Anxiety. Exposure Response Prevention is the gold standard to treat OCD and Health Anxiety. NOCD is a great resource with skilled therapists in Exposure Response Prevention. Paige Pradko on youtube, does great videos on this topic. I too often wonder if PPD is not related to OCD! How often do we obsess about our symptoms and then do compulsions(dr. google, see various doctors, talk to friends for reassurance etc) It is all so related. I do also advocate that more research is done on the connection between PPD and OCD.

For many with TMS/Perceived Danger Pain - thoughts that might be defined as OCD are quite common. Once the fear has been neutralized by knowing what is really going on, the thoughts tend to settle down.
