As someone who has a butlers pantry and an island bench.. definitely put the sink and dishwasher in the butlers pantry. My sink is on the island and it drives me crazy. A butlers pantry is for the ‘mess’

100% the sink and dishwasher in the butler pantry!! So much cleaner and looks so much more prestige. In high end homes I’ve seen that’s how it is!

Hey doll! As a Mumma with 3 kids I can tell you right now my literal dream is to have an empty island bench and my sinks away in a butlers pantry - the sink takes up so much prep space and if you’re having guests over and have alot of cookware and dining ware piling up next to or in the sink that’s your bench space gone! Perhaps a good compromise would be to have a small round sink beside the stove to wash your hands but keep your main sink and dishwasher in the butlers pantry. The house Reno’s are looking fab! Keep up the amazing work 😘

I agree with Lachie the whole point in buttlers pantry is for prep work.

If you're not going to have any water in the kitchen, I'd definitely recommend a pot filler over the stove. Seems like it would be a pain to walk over a large pot of water from the pantry to the kitchen stove. - Especially during holidays. The whole place is gorgeous! Can't wait to see the final product and landscaping!! Absolutely beautiful taste.

No sink in the bench, trust me, nothing better than a clean plain bench 😍

When your kids are doing homework at the island bench while you’re prepping lunches and making dinner, trust me you’ll want a sink and a dishwasher in that bench, along with a bin draw. It’s the golden triangle rule. That’s real life.

You must have a sink in the kitchen as well. You do not want to be having to walk into the scullery sink to strain a big boiling hot saucepan of potatoes. You must have access to a sink closer to the stove top. Nor should you be washing things in the scullery hidden away..you're not a servant back in the 1800's. You can be out with the family 🤣. Just move the sink further to one end (that'd annoy me though I'd have it centred) plus the tapware you can get now are almost like pieces of art!! So definitely two sinks. I also get the vents on the feature wall (sorry Lachy) ...that'd be a detail I'd pick up on as well. It's going to be a stunning home though when finished. Well done both of you. 👏👏👏

You guys are building a modern, sophisticated home. I understand why he’d want to keep it clean and pleasing to the eye versus convenient😄 I will also say that having a huge sink in the middle of a bench creates a messy look once everything starts getting piled up. Two separate areas keeps the clutter away. Your home is going to turn out fabulous😍

As someone who has just built a house, I would leave the dishwasher and doubke sink in butlers! I wish our big island bench was just bench!

Deffs 2 sinks I had a butlers pantry and the extra sink in there it comes in handy but couldn't live without the main sink in the kitchen

Leave the island blank be good for all the room for guest and kids to seat around ❤ I think the sink and dishwasher just where the wall is in the Kitchenette is good don’t have to feel so rushed to tidy up when people are around. Plus you probably prep between oven and sink anyway 😊

I agree with Skye, we put our sink the far left of our bench and i honestly still have sooo much room on my island that doesn’t even get used. even when we entertain there’s so much space still and next to the sink is our dishwasher and we also have a built in bin that pulls out of the island cabinetry. Cleaning and cooking is so much more convenient. and it still looks clean. Happy to send over a photo if need be.

If you keep a small sink in the pantry for washing your fresh produce a stuff and then moved the dishwasher and main kitchen sink closer to the oven and stove top that would probably work best! But don’t put it in the island that won’t look right! Love the series ☺️

With the size of that island...you can put the sink there, but then the dishwasher could be in the island too. I've seen the stovetop on the island, but that's only if you're a hardcore chef or something lol. The butler's pantry is nice, but honestly that's if you have service people and host a lot. Day to day makes sense to have everything you need within reach. Anyway excited to see the progress!! :-))))

Keep bench clear but have a working station behind bench on other wall so you can go from bench to dish washer, stove and sink. Also it has to be practical. What a beautiful home you are building

Skye is 1000% right with the air con coming from the ceiling. The air will circulate better as well then coming from one (feature) wall. Also in terms of the kitchen I didn’t see a stove top or range hood but in America they have a tap that comes out to fill pots with water (would this help deciding sink or no sink) if not I guess you both need to go to a display home so you can demonstrate the practicality of it so it works best for you guys but maybe the island bench is clean and the sink is near the oven ?? That should make you both happy? I love watching your dream come a reality you guys are sooo close it’s going to be amazing x

You are 1000% on the money Skye, 2 sinks 2 dishwashers 2 ovens every single time... I'm so regretful I didn't do it in my kitchen 4 years when we built!!! We do have 2 sinks though & it's a game changer all the school stuff goes in the pantry to be washed but thats where I wish I had another dishwasher for all the stuff that goes in there.

I agree a sink and dishwasher in kitchen for convenience but maybe on back wall not the island, we’ve got a sink on the island and I love it but if had the workspace would have put it on the back wall so that the island is more of a statement on its own, especially the island you’re having it’s so pretty on its own. 😍

I think you’re both right. There should be a main sink and dishwasher in the pantry area so if you have guest over, you can just check all the dirty stinky stuff there. But, in the main kitchen area, you should at least have a small prep sink and dishwasher so that whilst you are prepping and washing your bench, etc. you can still entertain washing and prepping. Just a designers input.

Absolutely need a sink in the main area of the kitchen! As for dishwashers you can get a cupboard front to cover the front of the dishwasher so it blends in type thing. The ones you knock on to open and the same with the fridge

Why didn't you (Skye) seem to get much say in the planning stage? It seems like you are only finding out things for the first time during the walk throughs?! Not criticising anyone involved, it is obvious Lachy has put a lot of thought and effort in to the design and it looks amazing but you will live there too and it has to work for you. I think the kitchen is an odd layout at the moment and would be much better with a sink in the island, or at least up that end of the kitchen. A lot of houses have a sink in the butlers pantry and the main kitchen. I love the reno vids, I can't wait to see the end result!

Whoever cooks the most should get the say on the kitchen. Stuff being stuck in the butlers pantry prepping and doing dishes while the family hangs out together

It's best to have a plain island Bench so kids can sit up there to have meals, homework, activities while you're preparing food whilst the stove should be parallel to the bench for cooking. Fridge to the right for easy access, washing up to the far right away. Sink & dishwasher together to the right hand side whilst having a hidden sink, extra fridge, hot & cold tap/ hidden items away in the butlers pantry to close up when guest come up. You need way more storage than you think! Being in a family with this setup with 4 kids... home entertaining often that set up works best! Sink/dishwasher should also be near the fridge.

Small kitchen in kitchen for convenience - glass of water or for cooking, rinsing vegs etc and dump all dishes etc in the butlers pantry for cleaning in big sink and dishwasher. Having a sink in the island though creates so much splash and you don’t want sponges and washing up stuff out on the bench.

No sink in the island bench, it’s a feature and leaves more space when multiple people are in the kitchen. Also leaves the main part of the kitchen clean while all the dirty dishes stay out of sight! Remember you haven’t lived in a house with this type of kitchen before, you’ll change the way you do things based on the new layout.

I think you need a sink also near to where you’re cooking..( maybe not o island bench)..draining water out of pots etc.

Consider a small prep sink towars the end of the bench. Won't take up mich room but allows for veggie prep etc and still keeps everything in the work area. I have never heard of a sink in a butlers pantry.

Keep the sink & dishwasher in the butlers pantry. Put a tap on the wall where the oven is so that you can fill up pots with water for cooking pastas, rice or soups. If you look online there are foldaway ones

Leave the sink in the butlers pantry I have a scullery that has the sink & dish washer in it and it keeps the kitchen looking mess free, I also love my huge island bench! With kids you need that island bench uninterrupted by a sink trust me! Also if you reaaaallly needed a sink could you put a small round sink on the end (can’t remember what they’re called)

Let me give you something to think about … kids normally like to be near their parents so a play room near the main area is really nice to have.

The whole point of the butlers pantry is for the prep & mess, cook and entertain in the rest of the kitchen. It’s what goes with the style of the house.

Main large sink and dishwasher in Butlers and a small sleek convenience sink in the kitchen I would recommend NOT on the island bench, we moved ours onto main bench as it was super annoying and ugly on the island.

Girl you need your sink and your dishwasher in the island!!! Totally with you on that one!! If you have it off to one side you still have plenty of space for prep, you won't want to be in the butlers pantry prepping you want to be facing out where everyone is, not shoved into a corner!!

Love everything except the Juliet balconies 😂 I know our opinions don’t matter but that room would look good with a huge window to look out at the pool, or even stairs down to the pool and a huge sliding door

If you need it, add one of those filtered water taps to the kitchen but not a sink, like a tap for glasses water and filling the stove. Like the ones they have in office buildings (I don’t know what it’s called 😩)

Some of these comments are not it! Building is so stressful and people forget what they agree on and talk about. We’re going through it right now. It’s also hard to envision what it’s going to look like from a plan. It’s a process. They will choose what works for them and work it out 🥰

It’s a thing, one in butlers one in island… take lauchy through any of the displays up the road at Sky Ridge to prove your dangggg point lol 😂 You have a stack of bench space 🙏🏻🙌🏼🙌🏼 you can get the sink cut in the same stone as your bench top and it’s so seamless and not an eye sore so gorg 😍
