Hello again! This episode we're sharing all the updates on the chicken coop rebuild and showing some ideas for decorating a tiny home or space in a rustic Italian Tuscan style. My parents have been helping with building, sewing, restoring and decorating so there is lots to show you. You can find many more videos on my channel about how I learned Italian and moved to Italy. Making these episodes alone is very time consuming and expensive and if you would like to support my work, you can find my Patreon page here:

Kylie, have them do the other half and put your mindset into the appearance of gunmetal blue with a preserving finish, which is astonishingly beautiful. We did that with all our iron railings. Loads of work, mind - and necessary to repeat with some regularity here in temperate climate - but the alternative is potential loss of structural function, perhaps sooner than you expect. And your table base IS lovely - so worth preserving. And the repurposed door IS striking. Put together, imagine the delightful stories about its origin that will pass down through the ages. Another point is that rust loves oxygen - first pin hole and the inside rusts, too...and pant legs and skirts that rub against it!!
@paula5693
@paula5693 3 жыл бұрын
The preserved gunmetal finish is striking really and draws your eye more to the intricate ironwork itself. But also I must say I personally felt somewhat bad for Guido in that he clearly wanted to surprise you with all he & your father had done and that did not happen on the contrary.

We fully restored an 1870 farmhouse in Oregon, USA. We had similar issues with our contractors not showing up or making errors. Towards the end, we ended up doing most of the work ourselves, because we were better at paying attention to detail and saved a lot of money that way. Love how your place is coming along. So beautiful.

I love the metal scroll work table and the door is perfect! I love the rustic look but the real rust on the table may rub off on someone's clothes especially white linen which is a must for summers in Tuscany! The great alternative is to create a "faux rust" with paint effects and this is available online or you can find it usually in interior decorating shops. I love both the looks but I think Guido wanted to treat it to preserve it (my late father would have done the same thing!) but you can have the best of both worlds with the paint effects paint treatment!! The rest of the reno is just spectacular....... simplicity and practicality all with that quintessential rustic vibe! It is perfect and I commend the whole team!! Also the wildlife.....I love the different types, and the baby donkeys.......my heart melted!

Hey guys, a suggestion if I may. Kylie, in your search for perfection, the film showed your disappointment when Guido and your father chemically treated the wrought iron base for protection against the elements. Guido was right in that it will eventually return to that patina and you were right when you questioned whether that would happen in just one season. Well, as you both go forward with your renovations, you might find it useful to delve into patina's. There's a whole branch of treating metal to get "a look", from bluing on steel to the treatment of copper and bronze to achieve that aesthetic look that you're searching for. If you find some extra time (I know, you said that there wasn't enough time for what needs to done now,) maybe do a google search on metal patina's. Also that's an insane amount of rebar in the foundation slab and I for one would be good with Guido taking the cement guys to task for not being up to spec when reading the plans. Persevere.

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. What a wonderful and beautiful space your parents have made. The table and objects and garden... they are all so lovely! Thank you for sharing their talents and bits of your life. Yes! Take some time off to rejuvenate and just be. You will come back to us refreshed and full of more wonderful stories. You deserve to enjoy the fruits of your labors. All the best to your wonderful family and Guido!

Wow !!! So impressed with your father’s skills, talent & drive. He has accomplished so much !!!What a blessing to have your parents there. And the floors Mama did look amazing. I like the rust on the table & feel your disappointment, but at the end of the day- the black side looks very nice too & it’s something you can release & soon it won’t even bother you. I promise. I speak from experience. That fig cheesecake in the opening scene was so delicious looking!

I saved this as my Sunday morning treat. Thank you so much for the update on the chicken coop and I agree with everyone who said that you clearly get your skills from you parents. How lovely to have them there helping out with your transformations. Seeing sunshine and blue skies has been great for the soul as in the UK we have had a summer of rain and grey skies. Never feel guilty for not being able to respond to everyone; it is lovely that you are sharing your life with us and bringing us all such joy. And yes, take some time to rest. All your patreons know you work very hard and you deserve a break!

I'm with Guido and Dad - treat the rust to protect the iron - and anyone's knees who happen to brush against it! It still has a lovely aged esthetic that matches the hinges, no? xoxo PS the KITCHEN is STUNNING - what a talent your parents have!

What a beautiful couple you make and what an enormous project you are working on! I've rebuild myself an old farm in the center of France and an 15th century inn in Normandy. Very happy to have sold them since ( to much dust and worries !) But I really admire your work. One thing choques me: don't put cement on interior walls !!!! It doesn't breath and you will end up with moisture on your walls! Good luck and keep up with the good work !

Thanks again Kylie and Guido. It warms my heart when I see your videos. May I make one small suggestion, I know that finishing each others sentences is a sign of like minds but Guido is such a wise soul it would be great if he can finish his complete thought, especially when he is speaking in English.
