Judge Frank Caprio is renowned for the compassion he's shown on the bench, and now that kindness is finding its way back to him. CBS News Contributor David Begnaud sits down with the judge to reflect on his recent diagnosis with pancreatic cancer, the lessons he's learned from the bench, and the message he hopes to share with his international fanbase.

Judge Caprio's kindness and compassion is contagious. The way in which he serves others is so personal and meaningful. It's what we all need to see more of. It's what we need to see in our politicians. It's what we need to see in leaders. Character matters.

Pancreatic cancer is one of the most deadly painful cancers. The survival rate is single digits and most only have weeks or a few months once they find they have this cancer. I lost a very great friend 4+ years ago to this cancer & he fought it successfully for 7 years~! I hope and pray judge Caprio that you beat this cancer like my dear friend. Shalom

David Begnaud was a reporter here in Sacramento CA for CBS 13 a few years ago. I'm so glad he made it big. This was a great story. Judge Caprio seems like a wonderful man. I hope he pulls through with the cancer. Prayers to him.

Theres a definite line between who you know and who you can get favors from and thsoe who can't because they can't afford it. Justice system is in the crapper as is the very idea we'd embrace a dictator. Do the math Its not hard.

I think a majority of the people aren't chill with it (government/leaders/CEOs not included in this group)... but so many of us know how close most of us are to also being poor, that sometimes it seems like we don't think about those less fortunate. Or if we do, that we "don't have time" to figure out how to help, lest we ourselves become part of that group. I think you'll find most Americans DO care and DO wish they could do something... but maybe feel helpless.

There are some in government, community, and church leaders that are very much concerned about poor people. However, the media here doesn't cover that and certain people in power couldn't care less to hear these people out . They like to use the word "entitlement" a lot when the subject poverty comes up.

This was a beautiful story told with a lot of compassion, love and kindness. My heart was filled 😢learning he’s battling cancer and yet he laughs and brings a smile on those he has seen in his court. I believe if tv stations would show more episodes like these, this country probably would show more compassion and kindness and empathy and LOVE ❤

I am 62 years old and I just lost my younger brother that could have turned 55 years to the cold hands of death just this past March and I did not cry,watching this got me so emotional that I can't control my tears that I have to get out of the office to go to a hidden place to cry.I still don't understand why bad things happen to good people,honestly it is still one of the things that I don't understand about this world we live in.I pray that God will make the treatment he is receiving work for him and he will come back healed and free of cancer.

I grew up around a kind judge in probate court in salem.....they were all kind and( and u never find people that truely understand a disabilty ) understanding of me. God bless u judge caprio... judge salvo helped me..ill never forget the kind understanding advice if a judge......we all should do it the fred caprio way. God bless you are my prayers judge

Judge Caprio is probably the most compassionate man I have ever seen I watch the the program often and I see that compassion on every episode I lost my Mother to pancreatic cancer in 1999 It’s a terrible thing to have I pray that my lord and savior will show you the mercy that you have shown to so many people I know how devastating this cancer is I hope and pray that you will beat it but if not and you are a born again Christian then you are a winner either way Love and prayers for my fellow man

Every person in the entire world needs to look at this man and remember that compassion for your fellow human beings exists. Judge Frank, you are a VERY, VERY, special angel that God sent down as a blessing for us all. The love we all have for you, certainly will out weigh anything else. I was brought up in a family that didn't show love. I never heard the words I love you, and I never felt a hug until I was over 21. I felt like a forgotten soul. Judge Caprio practiced justice, but also peace, from his bench and in his everyday interactions. Treating each and everyone with respect and dignity and in the process, restoring their trust in humanity. Doing good works without fanfare or expectation of recognition.
