She’s literally part of the problem and she doesn’t realize it. The reason why prices are like this is because of everyone and their moms from the east cost and California coming over with their suitcases full of cash buying everything up. I get people wanting to move to somewhere affordable but coming here and complaining about a problem that YOU help cause is just not it.

Yea rent in Charlotte NC was like $300-700 for 2 bedroom when I was younger and no it’s 1500 for one bedroom 😭

Use your internet and KZfaq and search "apartment hunting south Africa/Kenya/Nigeria etc " and you will see that a lot of the same modern apartments in the USA are also everywhere in African countries. Sometimes even better. Your media only shows you the poorest of the poor, only giving Africa a poverty stricken image. They will not show you the rest, which looks just like the west. For your information South Africa, for example, founded a fast food chain that is popular in the United Kingdom, called Nandos. It's south African, but you in your ignorance can only imagine starving Africans. Do not remain an ignorant person.

That’s literally the same rent price in Los Angeles. You’re telling me you downgraded/moved to Phoenix only so you continue paying LA prices? This is why I never tell people to leave California, cuz once you do you’re paying the same rent prices but in a shittier state. The cost of living in Florida and Texas is now higher than California and their wages are even lower!

That's capitalism though dude, the demand is up and the supply can't keep up with it. Californians have money to spend and are happy to pay the increasing rents because it's still better than what you find in a place like LA. If you were a landlord you would do the same, when you're in the business of making money it only makes sense to make more when you have the opportunity. It sucks for native residents I agree and I wish Californians would stay and live with their poor decisions.

That's why I'm leaving Arizona, when I moved here a one bedroom was $535 in 2013 now it's $1500 - $1800 in 2022. I'm tired of having to job hop to keep up with the cost of living.

Unless you’re moving to somewhere really rural or to states where no one is moving to, you will be facing the same problems if not worse. It’s not just a phoenix problem it’s a societal problem.

$1700 is not even normal. If you are used to CA prices, heres the thing everywhere else used to have dirt cheap rent including Phoenix. Once upon time it was $800 for a nice 2 bed just a few years ago. That does not exist anywhere at all anymore and it is increasing into something unsustainable just this past year. At least CA has rent control. Better off moving there it is more beautiful anyways

Friend, our rent went up 20% last year and 25% this year . Broken down ,that means $200 last year and $ 300 this year. Arizona is a BIBLICAL HELL.

@@alexandriaa44 Saw today an old fella that walks the neighborhood today and he has just found a 2 BR for just over$900 and is so happy. The lower rents won't be given unless you move apparently as the land lord will keep putting it to you. I guess the moral is do not give up as a recession is coming so the financial folks say. This is going on everywhere .. including Texas and New Orleans…rent is the price of a mortgage if not more. I honestly didn’t see that much of a difference between California and other places. It use to be that the cost of living was way higher in California and New York but the demands of more affordable housing has driven people to other areas and now the demand is higher.. so these places that were once reasonable are now just as high.

Lifelong AZ resident here and I'm seriously thinking of leaving the state because of high cost of living. It's insane, I never thought we would be like California yet here we are. There is also skyrocketing crime rates, a bad drought and I'm not going to pay a fortune to live like this. I love my home state and don't want to leave but I'm forced to.

I recently moved from Phoenix I lived in a 4 bed 2 1/2 bath with a pool near the foothills southwest Phoenix we paid $2260.... I now live in my home state of Texas I live near North Austin Tx now and I pay what I did in Phoenix for my rent and electric and gas and my car note here in Texas I don't have a pool but I have a huge backyard!!!! I do miss AZ but I like saving money !!!!

*Sigh* this is such a reasonable price If you compare Canadian apartments. I’m not an expert expert or know the exactly what is going on the housing market but I do know that as of right now, apartments are listed up for a minimum 499 000$ at an estimated price of selling for 586 571$ OR HIGHER* for at least a 1 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment. In addition, 1 cad dollar = 0.77 US cents

At least you guys have higher wages, you don’t have to pay exorbitant amount for health insurance and education. Those are things that we have to simultaneously contend with on top of the crazy housing market. Minimum wage in many cities including phoenix where she is talking about is barely above 10 dollars.

Problem is cities have to support people from all economic backgrounds. Unfortunately, zoomtown culture is causing the gentrification of entire cities... But instead of causing poor neighborhoods to change, it's causing whole cities to change with inflated pricing. Guess we should call it zoomification, not californication

Az is ridiculously overpriced. At least in Cali you get the beach.. im trying to move back to Cali. The laws are better for employees in Cali. Az favors companies and landlords. I complained to the judge that my refrigerator did not work at a rental house. She said that was my responsibility.

I have a friend who lives in a small two bedrooms apartment in Surprise not fancy. Not even a beautiful area either and she pays $1, 750
