When renting a car in Europe, try short term leasing instead. Here's a pro tip on a Europe car deal from a seasoned slow traveler: if you're renting a car in Europe for more than 3 weeks and you're looking at Avis, Hertz, Sixt or Europcar, instead of car rental in Europe, consider short term car leasing instead. As a non-EU resident you can rent a brand new, fully insured car from Renault, Peugeot or Citroen for up to 6 months at very competitive rates. Convenient pick up and drop off points in France, Italy, Spain, Germany and Portugal and no one-way fees make these programs a great alternative (to renting from Avis, Hertz, Sixt etc.) for extended car trips throughout Europe. Thanks for watching and thank you for your comment. I think there is way to do back to back 6-month leases, but each lease would have to be under a different family member's name. The agency can answer questions like that if you contact them.

Ditto on unwanted upgrades. Before the pandemic, I had a Peugeot 2008 reserved and got an unwanted upgrade to a 3008. Similarly, this year Citroen upgraded me out of a C4 Manual to a C5 Automatic (am driving it now). In both cases, I ended up with a bigger car than I wanted/needed. Prices have jumped in 2023 (last year I got 3 months for

Much appreciated! Have you tried using a VPN to search using alternate location? Does it help to get better rates when the bot thinks you're local?

When requesting a quote, you are asked to select your country of residence. Later during the actual booking/reservation process you will need to provide identification and proof of residence (e.g. passport, drivers' license etc). I don't think a VPN or alternate IP location would be helpful to obtain lower rates, but I'm not sure. I've never tried it.

What about EU Residents? It looks like its only for people Outside of the EU? What can people in the EU do?

Yes, the program is only for non-EU residents. We're not aware of any special programs for EU residents, unfortunately. All the best.
