I’m *completely* with you when you say that fly tying is almost its own separate endeavor from fly fishing. I enjoy it in a way that’s both connected and totally separate from my fishing. The connected part is that you’re always thinking about what will work given what situation, what variation have they never seen, what variation has the edge in terms of a natural presentation, what can I do that I could just never buy if I didn’t tie. But it’s separate in the sense that it’s a completely different activity with its own skill set. Sitting at the bench with music or a good talk show playing in the background while you try a new twist on one of your favorite patterns…

I love the traveler, I researched for way too long before buying, I would buy it again, it travels just fine.

I had a different brand before my first renzetti traveler. Wish I had switched sooner! It’s definitely great for travel!

I have a master, and love it for home. Based on this information, I would like to look at a Pres4000, in a base/clamp for travelling emergencies . . .

I love the way my Traveler holds a hook but I hate the handle coming loose and I can't find a happy medium for rotary tension with the knob. I put my hands on a presentation 4000 tonight and wow it feels so much better and the knob doesn't loosen up.

I don’t believe it will. But some of the other vises can take the “saltwater” jaws, which are a little bigger.

I have been thinking for a long time and trying to make an ideal choice. I think Presentation 4000 is what would completely satisfy me. Do you have any suggestions and recommendations for me?

Have you tried the Presentation 2000? i see almost no reviews on it. Its the one of the only vises they sell with a hinged arm besides the master

It is one of the few Renzetti vises I have not used. I like the look of it online. I personally would upgrade to the 4000 though, just to get more of the stainless and brass parts upgraded over those aluminum parts. If you're looking at a lighter weight aluminum vise, the traveller is the number 1 selling vise for a reason. Now tying on the master vise, and tying a variety of fly sizes from trout to steelhead to Bluewater, I honestly haven't adjusted the head angle since taking it out of the box! haha

I haven't done a review. Dyna-kings are nice vises too. One of the guys here at the shop had one.

Isn’t the only difference between the 3000 and the 4000 the type of jaw assembly? I have a 3000 for tying really small flies, and it has all the features of the 4000. Renzetti even offers a 4000 jaw assembly for converting the 3000 to the cam jaw.

Nice video, i am just getting into jig tying... (start the comments in 3, 2, 1 ...). What vise would you suggest ? And to all you trout fly pros, NO ... my vise grips did NOT work at all !! lmao ! Thanks, Nick in Redfield Arkansas.

I love tying jigs. Any of the Renzetti vises will hold all sizes jigs. They have a lot of adjustment with the jaws.

@@Gigharborflyshop I to mainly tie jigs in the range of size 4 to 4/0 Do all of these hold larger sizes. My biggest user is 2/0 and 3/0.

Is the 4000 the only one with the ratchet handle feature?

I believe it’s the 3000 presentation that had more of a ratchet feature. The 4000 and master have a smooth one way bearing in it

The Pres 2000 has the ratchet feature, too. I disabled mine so it moves just like the traveler. It was the first thing I did. It’s just a matter of holding back a spring and tightening a knob.

Then someone exhibition tying at a convention lets you try their Law, and you're spoiled for all other vises. And yup, they're now making huge bucks, stupid money. That's life. Almost any other vise will do just fine, but that Law - wow.

After a few hundred flies with my new Traveler I cannot see an advantage over a standard Regal. With a Regal you are not adjusting your jaws up and down. Nor do you have to tighten or loosen the jaws. If you cannot wrap your hackle nicely by hand, then buy you flies. Save yourself some money and frustration, but a Regal.

Regal makes a nice vise and I tied on one before getting my traveler. Some people don't want to use the full rotary function of the Renzetti. That's fine, it's just personal preference. Setting the hook in the jaws is easy in a Regal and takes some getting used to with the Renzetti, honestly. But I think the added features of the Renzetti are advantageous over the long haul.

@@Gigharborflyshop Having tied for over 50 years now I have tried many. I tie a couple thousand flies each year. Never once replaced a part or adjusted my regals. Trust me, go with a Regal.

I can wrap a hackle just fine by hand and in a lot of cases i still prefer to do so or actually have to do so. I still prefer Renzetti. Full rotary saves me a lot of time, and for the occasional resin job, true rotary is a must. Theres just so many patterns that are way faster for me personally with the Renzettii. And tying minimum 5 and perhaps more often 10 of each fly, adjusting the jaws is a 2 second job and honestly not really that big of a deal. That being said, I have tied on a regal too and its a nice sturdy intuitive vise. It's just too bulky for me and doesnt have the right features for my tying style. Its personal preference. The regals are beautiful. Renzettis are a little over the top fancy looking for a hook holder IMO. Especially the custom ones. Yuck.
