One easy trick I did to get a general location where I was gonna mount the camera is to use my cell phone. I just point in the direction and take a snap shot. That gave me a idea of what is going to be in the picture. So far these seem to be a lot better that the Lorex

I installed this system at my house and outbuilding a month ago. Been happy with it. I hid the NVR in the pantry. I didn't want to have a display in there. I had an unused NUC w/ Windows and installed the app on it, then mounted the NUC behind the main TV and connected with HDMI. I used a small wireless keyboard/touchpad combo to complete the setup. If I want to watch the cameras, I just switch to the NUC on the main TV in the house. It's going to be tough to find a better camera system at that price point.

The 4k NVRs have the same model number but they are Hardware v2. This is important for recommending upgrades because the new 4k cameras are not decodable at max resolution on the old NVR as well as the video output is only supported up to 1080p on the V1 NVRs. Currently only ship V2 8ch NVRs but they still ship V1 and V2 16Ch NVRs so make sure you have the correct model if your not purchasing a package.

Have to admit those Cameras look awesome! I install CCTV for a living and I typically use Hikvision and that brand just wants too much for a 5MP IP Camera. My current system on my house is a bunch of leftovers from Customers that have gotten upgraded systems.

Ive been installing for about 13 years and I mostly recommend and install Reolink now, even for med sized businesses. The Hikv cams I use sometimes for one off remote mount or thermal cameras but all the others usually Reolink. Its also notable you will find some similarities between brands because they have the same manufacturer such as Qcam(Amcrest) and Reolink, Sannce and Annke etc.. The vendors I stay away from are Avigilon and Samsung, overpriced even when they do work well.

Don't do Reolink... good and cheap, but Dahua or Hikvision with BlueIris are well worth it! Note: I don't have the 4k Reolinks, i guess they are technically 2k (one model before) and they have improved in the 4k. The image quality of the Dahua 1080P Starlights are still way better than the couple 4k Reolinks i have.
@digiblurDIY

I agree on the BlueIris if you have the knowledge level to do it. Some folks just want a system to plug it in and go. I run some Reolinks and Amcrest cameras on Blue Iris and love it. But with that said was I going to put in Blue Iris at this remote location? Nope. This was the answer based on future support and ease of management by the non techy user. Definitely going to be my go to box I put in for users.

There is no need to cut off the ethernet ends and go through all the trouble of re-wiring them to the new ethernet ends so that you can use the waterproof boots. If you're a lazy pos like me, just use a razor blade to slice off the corners of the ethernet end so that it is smaller and more round in shape. It will fit right through the boots after that. Who cares if it doesn't look as nice. No one is ever going to see it anyway. It's going to be inside the waterproof boot. You're welcome.

UPDATE: The existing 16 Channel NVR will not work, however the yet to be released 16 Channel NVR will. Just don't buy the current RLN16-410 16 Channel NVR separately and you will be OK. *** ORIGINAL MESSAGE *** Correction: Reolink says that the 16 channel NVR "cannot work with B800 or D800 4K cam." I assume it either cannot keep up with the throughput of 4k. So, if you need more than 8 cameras, you will need to pickup a second 8 channel NVR.

I purchased this system in 2020 and it worked great. At least up until Jan 12 2021. Thats when Adobe Flash Player was turned off. Now the only way I can communicate with the cameras is with an app on my Android cell phone. I used to be able to call up the cameras on my PC by going to its IP address and I can still do that. However I have to allow Flash to run before I can be fully connected. Since Flash is no more I'm SOL. Apparently the built in software of the cameras use Flash. The NVR also no longer works with any camera I have including the 4 cameras that came with the system. I've gone to their support site but couldn't find anything addressing the Flash issue. If anyone has any information about this I would appreciate knowing what/if any solution there is.

The POE cables can be quite timing consuming and costly to route to your NVR. To install 4 cameras and route wiring, I would estimate two days assuming a competent professional - so that may cost $1,000. There is nothing simple about the planning of wire routing, buying the necessary parts, drilling through 8" brick/concrete black, working on ladders up to a two-story ceiling, installing the necessary tubing for wiring etc, all before you actually get to the camera set up.

Excellent video, Quick question, I’m torn between buying a refurbish computer and installing Blue iris or buying a Reolink system. The one thing I read, on a Blue Iris system you can set lower recording speeds for standard recording and a higher recording speed for motion alerts. Are you able to do the same on a Reolink system to save diskspace?
@digiblurDIY

You can but that takes a lot of processor power to encode the video. In blue Iris I use the direct to disk option. This one shows a bit of it . kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b7aeoKiAppnXeHk.html

I plan to get this system. Right now I have arlo pro 2. I don't care for it because it cant stream live 24/7. I have a tv in front of my bed and would like to keep my front driveway and street camera in view since all houses next to mine are right next to eachother. Will still put up back yard cameras but theft and vandalism only happen outfront. If I'm watching tv can this stream live 24/7 on a IPAD? With arlo pro 2 it only streams live for around 10 minutes before your camera logs you out. So I figured a NVR would be good.
