Greetings from a Certified RV tech that owns a Mobile RV Service and works on these systems often! LOL. One of the subscribers to my KZfaq channel directed me to your channel - specifically your Schwintech repair. Well done!!! As I was watching your discovery of the issue, I was biting my nails wishing I could talk you through some of the more difficult areas to save you hours! I spend a week in Lippert factory training going over issues like you were having and picking up many short-cuts to help diagnose. Then you nailed it at the end when you said it could be done in 3 hours - I laughed out loud when you said that because it is true! I have been called out on many slide room recovery jobs and honestly the Schwintech (Lippert In-wall) is my most favorite to work on! Lots of short-cuts and tricks to make it much easier to access and for troubleshoot things. You covered many of them in your wrap-up but there are a few more. If you know how they work, they really are very easy to repair - I think you summed it up perfectly. Your story has inspired me to put together a Schwintech video for my channel and go over lots of these short-cuts and tricks to recover in a spirit of helping others. If you EVER get stuck again on something like this (or any other RV repair), please reach out to me and I will do my best to help you. www.myrvworks.com . Happy Camping and keep inspiring others to do the same! You are making a huge difference in many others lives!!! Cheers, Darren Koepp My RV Works, Inc.

My version of this repair would have been R rated for sure. Nice job! I found this video because I too have to replace a bad motor. Fortunately although my motor is in a tough spot under the bed, it's not quite as horrific as the location your motor is installed.

wow...am so impressed. Our full wall Schwintek slide on an Itasca Solei failed in the "halfway out" position at a campground in Rapid City Iowa. The top portion was out substantially further than the bottom but would go no further either way. We had a hard time getting level, which I suspect led to the problem. The local mobile repair guys wouldn't tackle it. So on to Plan B, which was to push the slide in. We thought we had disconnected the two motors by the process you described...but it still wouldn't go in. As a desperate solution, we rounded up every able body male in the campground. With 13 pretty muscular guys, we finally managed to shove the slide out back in and lock in place (the picture is priceless). Two months and 5000+ miles later (with the slide fully locked in place the whole time) we finally returned home and got our trusted local shop to fix it. They found that the motors had NOT been disconnected fully; hence the need for lots of brawn to overcome the torque on the motors. Obviously, it is harder to disconnect the motors than the instructions imply. All that said, I am truly impressed you were able to successfully diagnose the problem and successfully perform the repair. Bravo!

I am glad I have no slides in my twenty-seven foot travel trailer. When I look at new ones, I see that they all have slides. Even smaller ones than mine have slides. I am sticking to mine with no slides. Even though slides give more room and make the RV feel much more spacious, they seem to be a constant problem. They leak water, they leak outside air, collect debris on their top, they let bugs crawl in, and they fail. You took on a monumental task and you conquered it with the help of your neighbor. Congratulations!! I am impressed!! That is very impressive and you are to be congratulated. I don't think many would have gone into it as far as you did. I bet the service shop would have changed the motors and said that they fixed it when the wires were the real problem. You found the real problem and fixed it. That is great!!

You are truly amazing tackling jobs that most men would not. Certain jobs that I'm familiar with, I will tackle, but as cheap as these RV's are made I'd be afraid of permanently damaging something. The older I get I use this premise, I'm good at what I do, and get paid well for it. Therefore I have no problem paying an expert RV Tech to fix these larger problems. My hat's off to you for taking on this task.

This was actually the best "how to" videos on how to pull and replace those motors that is on the internet. All the videos out there are in the shop and are done by techs. Which is not the real world that we all live in and what had happened to you. They show you how to pull the motors and "free float" the slide usually when the slide is fully extended. My slides are like yours are, you pretty much screwed if the slides are in because of the lack of access. Thank you for posting this video. Was informative.

It's an endless debate. The thing is that the slides aren't operated that often, a majority of a day the slide is either in or out, and yet other than black tank issues this may be one of the most prevalent issue in RVs. It may be important to choose an RV that can be used normally with the slides in. I really like the analysis of the problem. Troubleshooting is a real skill.

Good video! Thank you. I've done the solder repair on one of these several years ago with a slide stuck open, so your stuck shut situation was helpful to me. I have a mobile repair business, and have one of these to do today! Obviously, Lippert has a design and engineering flaw here, and RV owners pay the price. I would carry a couple of spare motors and a cable on hand when traveling if I owned a rig with this 'certain to fail' system.

Slides are great for having more space but after having three on our motorhome, I would not get them again, nothing but a pain in the butt and to try and fix them on your own, I give you a lot of credit Pippi for tackling that job but it would have cost thousands of dollars to have it done by a tech....Great job! Only women I have seen on you tube that does her own repairs and of course it helps to have others to help, what great neighbors.

Having been a camper for 40 years "never full time, a week at most" and owning 3 trailers "none with slides. I am getting ready this year to go for it full time. I am astounded after a year of research for a newer trailer that the rv manufacturers get away with putting below par products and workmanship in their rv's. 20k to 100k it doesn't seem to matter. Warranties are another problem. If you say you have such a good product then BACK IT UP. Kudo's for getting it done and it's always great to help people out.

You are AMAZING!!! I don’t know how you can do all that filming when doing all these complicated things! When I can’t figure something out, I just get so frustrated that I can’t think straight. You are always so focused and just get stuff done. You stick with it until you figure it out. I was exhausted for you. Happy you got it solved. Can you imagine how much that would have cost if you went to a shop? It’s wonderful that you had such great neighbors. Huge kudos to them for helping you. And how many rvers have soldering tools? Probably not many. You lucked out.

I can’t believe I’m only finding your channel now! You live (lived?) in an rv full time, fix things yourself, and have greyhounds (I have a greyhound mix that acts just like a greyhound)! And I could be wrong but is that a piano keyboard I see in the background? I’ve been on the road with my family for about 18 months, about 8 months in an RV, and I tow it, remodeled it, troubleshoot and (try to) fix any issues, and it’s nice to find another woman that does too. There are dozens of us! Dozens! Looking forward to watching your other videos.

Well, they went out of their way to make that difficult. Kudos to you for taking it on. That being said, get yourself a soldering iron, solder, and a "solder sucker" (for clearing the holes where the wires need to go). If the wires have broken on those two motors, then you only have four more to go.

AAHH Pippi, sorry that happened, but truely amazed that you took on the job of repairing it rather than heading to the nearest dealer as most would of. I have always wondered HOW the HECK those slides operated. Confused at the fact that there is no access from the bottom , inside or outside. I'd of never thought to look there. It was nice to see you back on the tools again, it's been awhile since you've done any repairs of reno's, although whats to do on such a nice rig. I do beilive you've Done the RV community a great service showing us all HOW IT'S DONE. CHEERS Steve h,

God sent you an angel for sure to help. I own brand new Class C with bedroom (bed) side has failed three times now and dealer service can’t or won’t fix (needs replacement) and I feel YOUR pain and Frustrations. Daniel is really one of the good ones. Only time in my life I wish I had taken shop as I am clueless on mechanical stuff. Safe travels Pippi.

Sorry to hear about your slide. I’d be curious what’s wrong. Interesting the shop won’t fix it. Sounds like the other two times they didn’t fix it either.

Girl, I love that you do the repairs on your rv yourself also love that you live on your own in an rv and you're so young ...you are unique...not many women would attempt the things that you do and you seem to be successful at it as well...very impressive lol most women don't even know how to use tools

You have to be the bravest RVer out there! I would have been waay over my head attempting that fix. Big props to your neighbor, they were key to your success! Hope you were able to buy them dinner for their assistance. Big thumbs down to schwintek and their crappy wiring! Come on man!
