I'm repairing a Mr. Heater Portable Buddy. I bought the Heater Buddy from a place that sales overstock and open box items for other retail stores. It didn't work when I got it so this is a video of me taking it apart and fixing the problem.

Easy to use right out the box kzfaq.infoUgkxAvrAfikbUEMthp3AZ6iX5FKdiHfzy_RP . Next step is to get a heat activated fan to move the heat. I'm impressed by how long it can go on 1 lbs of propane at the low setting which lasted more than 6hrs. You'll have to adjust it lower than the low setting. Used for personal heating at 30° to 50° at low setting in an open garage, it's quite comfortable. It would warm up a good size single car garage if its closed off.

OK, 6 years on and I have one of these that was working when I put it up last years, and now it sometimes lights the pilot but if it lights, it burns with a yellow flame. Spider web sounded VERY likely so I cleared the tube with a Q-tip, no help. Then shot it with some canned air, UPSIDE DOWN so it had the force of the liquid propellant to add some 'Authority' and, HOT DAMN, IT WORKED!!! Thanks.

Your spider issue saved me alot of work. Popped the line off the pilot and out poured the oil/liquid. Also a speck of dirt in the pilot hole. Runs like new. Thank you for your sacrifice.

Your video helped us take our Buddy apart enough to get to the value where you had a spider. But ours was clean, no spiders or dust. However, whenever we moved our Buddy, something was tapping. To the side of the main compartment is a round, black piece that I assume is the tilt safety feature. The ball in ours was not seated in the bottom, thus making the tapping sound. We had to jiggle the Buddy a bit to get it seated properly and then it worked. Yeah!!! Thanks for your help.

Funny, all the people who claim this is a crap heater. I have two. One i bought new 20 years ago, the other, i bought used more than 10 years ago. I give them a half assed cleaning once a year and they're still kickin!

Never clean mine for around 20 years . That thing went to hell and back and it never failed me once 🤷‍♂️ never cleaned it , for ten years now it's on the wall in my shed , i go through 7-8 20 lbs tanks per winter , and never had any issues 😁 i can't say it's crap 🤣🤣🤣

The problem is oil in the plumbing from the rubber hoses someone used prior.

Mine came with a loose side panel..broken tabs but working out of the box . I've only used the recommended filter and bulk hose ... about 100 gallons so far with no other issues. I strongly recommend the filter !

well i went camping 3 days ago and it failed on me ALTHOUGH i tested it at home before i went. when i was camping i watched a video about sticking a qtip to clean it up and lost the qtip tip inside the gas hole. now i have 2 problems the original and fishing for that piece of cotton 😫😫 but i won't do what philsostuff did i will go straight although the temptation was good to take the hole thing apart and burn it during my trip. to the part where i lost the thing. 😂😂

Mine kept going off over the weekend. I suspect it is the thermal couple as it works for a while, then goes out. I will blow out all the lines first before tearing it apart like you did. I thank you for doing that so I dont have to. I actually ended up buying a new heater because we were csmping over the weekend and I really didnt want to get into tearing the old one down. I will probably fix it and sell it. You got a great deal at $40 Thst half of what a new one costed.

I wrapped a copper wire around the little nipple and extended it closer to the pilot Now the flame detector is closer the pilot light! Solved the problem of the heater going out! Flame detector needs heat to continue operation . Worked for me!
@scottfirman
@scottfirman 5 жыл бұрын
@@kountryvaudeville I noticed the flame kernel was not reaching all the way over to the thermal couple so that would be a big part of it. I used a shorter hose and that fixed the issue. My older heater probably needs the lines cleaned out as well as the orifice at the end of the line. I seen one guy had a spiders nest in his. My furnace in our older pop up camper had that issue.

The only Mr. Heater units I have found to be reliable are the old-fashioned tank-top heaters. I have two others. One is a cannon style "Hero" heater that is cordless with a battery so it can be run on its own power. The ignitor quit after a month of use. The local dealer told me it had to be sent out of state for repair. The Mr. Heater "service" rep was indifferent. The other is a Buddy that is unusable because it has a cracked bottle gasket, after little use. Again, no parts readily available. Inferior components and parts availability are a hallmark of the Mr. Heater company.

I have the same heater at the moment it's okay I need to repair the handle because I use it to heat items up and sometimes I forget and therefore I melt a little bit of plastic. LOL. What is important when taking any mechanical or electrical Appliance apart is to remember Occam's razor. Similar to a fuel-driven engine; gas ,electrical , mechanical are the three steps to diagnose. 9:00 During "off season" put tape over end of pilot burner, and ALSO the tiny hole on side of pilot burner. Store the heater in a plastic bag and seal it SHUT to keep insects out. Another common failure point if cheap extension hoses have been used without official MR HEATER filter, is the aluminum tube between tank and main "selector valve," can get gummed up with some type of heavy OIL. Use wrench to loosen both ends of tube, remove and clean out with acetone of rubbing alcohol. Clean, dry out, reinstall. (For entertainment purposes only. NEVER REPAIR YOU OWN HEATER. IF BROKEN, THROW IT AWAY.)

That's how Chevy saves money on new models. They realized their trucks still run with less and less parts, when it doesn't start and run, they stop, put a couple parts back till it starts again. Has worked for them for 100 years. Ford keeps using the same parts for 50 years, till sales slow down, then introduce another cup holder.

The new 12' hose for this heater does not work. It does not allow enough gas flow to keep it lit. I bought and returned 2 of them to Lowe's, wasting 4 hours. First test your hose by sticking a nail it it to check the flow. If it is not strong that is the problem. Cheap Chinese CRAP. I used an old hose I had and my heater works fine now.
