Ok just to point out things I know will come: A: I file things how I want to, certain files are used certain ways and it’s just how I do it. File things how you would like too. B: I left some parts of this extended to show how things shape up real time so yeah we ended up with a hour twenty video 🤷‍♂️ I don’t make short videos, k? C: This work happened over the course of about a week. The lock has long been sent back to the customer to happily live on a door that has a deadbolt on it anyway :) D: Thanks for watching y’all :)

Edit: Just finished the video. I loved it, very well done. It is nice that it was able to be saved and not a pile of rust instead of parts inside. If you would like a rust remover suggestion then I have had amazing results from EvapoRust. More than a couple rusty road found crescent wrenches and ratchets have been saved with it and it has derusted a few gears quite nicely. Best part is that it is almost scentless,isn't hard on the hands, and you can wash it off with water. Still watching the video so this might all be redundant, let us see lol.

Files are a touchy subject ! like screwdrivers. screwdrivers are not pry bars, but sometimes people use them as pry bars. I have found myself doing it many times. then shack my head at myself. file is the same thing. as long as it's a double cut file it really doesn't matter how you use it, as long as a wood file is used on wood and a metal file is used on metal. I always make sure my files are double cut, so it doesn't matter what direction you go in. nice work on the mortise lock. solid video as usual

Try using evaporust. Its a safe rust remover where you soak the parts in it. I just restored a old Russwin mortise and it worked really well. Your lock came out great! Love the blued look.
