I’m brand spank’n new to rafting. I’ve only been out once on my new NRS Outlaw 130. In my repair kit (in addition to what you have)I have a Sharpie pen, a small piece of 150 grit sandpaper to scuff up a new patch surface, an old credit card to pull air bubbles on a patch, a pair of disposable gloves, a couple of alcohol wipes to clean patch area, a tiny paint brush to distribute patch glue, a popsicle stick to stir glue, and an old 2” round lid to trace a pattern and hold glue to stir and smooth. In my first aid kit, I’ve added a few capsules of Benedryl for anaphylactic shock (bee stings or a food reaction). In my tool kit, I’ve added a half dozen zip ties, an extra 1/2” socket in case first socket goes in the drink, and a very small retractable tape measure for frame/oar adjustment. Your channel is beyond helpful

Love your channel, you are very helpful. An additional item I now always have is Tyvek tape. When temperatures were above 100 that was the only tape that would hold up. Granted no one had a big enough patch to repair a large seam failure. Tear aid melted so tyvek tape was the last resort. It did get us 70 plus more miles and I had enough to re-repair multiple times. Not perfect but worked in a pinch.

Yep Tyvek tape is great. The intention of this video was for day trips so I'm trying to keep the kit small and simple. I'm surprised to hear Tear Aid didn't work at high temperatures. It's worked fine for me.

@@GearGarageTV definitely could of been user error on my part for the tear aid B. Stressful situations requires a calm head. Probably should of taken more time to assess. Another lesson learned.

Zach, that is a solid kit for a day trip. I keep a spare NRS u-bolt, washers and nylocks in my kit (I have not seen one fail, but have seen them not be fully tightened) some grub/set screws and a 3/16 allen wrench for the pipe frames. The set screws can definitely work loose, and it is a bummer to have oar stands start rotating. I also keep a valve repair kit just in case a valve fails at the put in, and about a dozen assorted black cable ties.

Thanks, Zach. This is another great video. How often do you inventory, inspect, and refresh components of your kit? The first aid kit has a lot of perishable items, but so do other parts (Tear Aid, headlamp batteries, etc.).

For the NRS frames: Our GC outfitter provided “Screnches”, those tools you use with a chainsaw. Having ruined a number of ratchets due to rust in the mechanisms, I think these screnches are a better option. You can also use the flat head screwdriver for adjusting oars, etc.

Those things are really hard to use when your hands are cold or if you need it to be tight

I carry a stove repair kit for my Partner stove. I always want to have O-rings; they dry out and crack especially here in the southwest

Love your show, Zach, thank you so much. I recently purchased 160ft of Sterling 5.9mm Power Cord for my "lean and mean" rescue setup. With the thinner diameter, will the Sterling Auto Block and/or Hollow Block prusiks work, or is there another prusik that you would recommend for this static line?

The Autoblock is probably the only prussic that works on that line

Have any of you had success with FlexSeal tape? I have some and that stuff is crazy sticky. It comes in really wide rolls and I would think it would be great for boat repair.

I heard a rumor that Flexseal tape may cause permanent damage to raft material. Just a rumor so I've never tried it.

Do you have a video on what to use for cleaning a raft? Is dish soap and a sponge sufficient, or do I need some 303 on there every so often as well?

NRS sells inflatable boat cleaner. 303 is for long term protection of some fabrics, not necessarily cleaning.

Tear Aid type B is for PVC/vinyl specifically. Their website says that the special glue can handle "oils" that PVC contains (I assume that would refer to the plasticizers). To avoid buying two rolls - anybody a reference how type B fares with "all the other" fabrics, compared to type A?

I've tested both Type A and Type B in previous vides and have found that Type A is superior for all raft materials.

Signal mirror, smoke signal, strobe, light ,chem lights for marking and ground to air. That’s a pretty light looking med kit for austere environment at least add a tourniquet

@@GearGarageTV silky makes excellent saws, I used a fixed blade zubat for years as an arborist. These saws require practice though! I've nicked myself plenty of times in a tree, and watched my brother nearly take his finger clean off with one swipe. Always make sure your free hand is clear by more distance than you think you need.

I run pins too. I don't see the point of carrying an extra pin. If something happened forceful enough to mess up a 5/8 bolt, it probably would break the the oar tower before the pin. Most likely the base of the oar tower where the u-bolt attaches. I guess carrying a pin is a good idea but without a tower or nrs u-bolt, what's the point?

You make a great point. I do carry a spare oar tower sometimes but not always and you're right that a spare pin is probably useless without a spare tower. Out of habit I'm gonna keep doing it even if it is pointless.
