Broken fishing rods happen and being able to repair snapped fishing rods is a very useful skill to have. Here I make a simple repair to a broken fishing rod. I hope this helps folks out.

I am beginning to think you break rods on purpose just to show us how clever you are. Seriously a great video armed with your two recent vids there is no reason why we can't all make effective repairs when we break our rods. Thanks John.

- Haha. I can absolutely promise that I do not break anything on purpose. :P I hope these workshop videos are helpful to folks. Im just keeping myself busy whilst the weather is poor. ;)

Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup kzfaq.infoUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.

Nicely done, I am going to work on my old rod soon. One thing I have learned is that quick set (5 minute) epoxy is not as strong as regular set. So if you are not doing an emergency repair, I would recommend standard epoxy.

Haven't read all the comments so is this was already mentioned>> Sorry!! This fix works much better if you use a piece of fiberglass rod to mend it instead of graphite!!! It flexes much more and will not break again so easy!! Learned this at a National rod building convention in a repair class!! Good luck!!

Used a similar method to repair a very thin walled rod (Fox Rage Terminator Pro Light Game Spin Rod) which snapped on New Years day. I used a needle instead of a section from another rod with araldite to hold it place. Having seen the video I'll try binding over the break and applying more epoxy to strengthen the area either side of the break. Anyway thanks for posting the video, I'll know how to do mend a rod properly next time.

Ive just snapped an Ugly Stik boat rod, so think I will have a go at this repair. Putting epoxy onto your whipping works well with a teaspoon, load up the back of the spoon with epoxy and then rotate the rod in your holder, and slide the spoon slowly across the width of the braid. You will need to rotate the rod till the epoxy stops sagging. I find after rotating it for a few minutes, is enough, then check and rotate every 10 mins or so. Ends up really smooth and bubble free.
@thefishlockerworkshop2 жыл бұрын
That is a really good tip, thank you.

Great video. I do my wrap jobs a little different just to make sure the braid is tied on both sides(just so it doesnt slide and keep the wind super tight. ) The most painful thing is using that Milwaukee diamond grip screw driver to mix the epoxy!!! Haha

Could you use an 1/8” dowel between the eyes of the repair to line it up or do you prefer “eyes on the eyes”?

Hi John, did you put epoxy on the bottom half of the Spegit before sliding it into the bottom section? Thanks
@thefishlockerworkshop4 жыл бұрын
Martin Corcoran - I dawbed up the narrow end of the spigot and pushed it back up inside the butt section so it carried epoxy with it coating the inside of the blank. Then slid it down into place.

@hldemi2 жыл бұрын
how did you manage to get rid of the 3-4 cm gap you between original rod sections that you had at 7:40 ?
@Bigtbuilder Жыл бұрын
One way would be to wrap and epoxy carbon fibre tape around the spigot that goes in the butt end to increase the diameter of the taper. Then sand to fit, push back down to increase the gap, bleed in epoxy, pull out to secure, when cured sand the joint then fit the top section.

NICE WORK ,WHY DONT YOU CUT THE ROD WITH DREMEL ON LOW REVOLUTION INSTED OF METAL SAW ....
@tonycamplin86073 жыл бұрын
I know that it has been already mentioned but I always take the rings off of the top section and then slide it into the but section. Much simpler, no spigot and the repair automatically locks itself in place. Also you've still got a whole old spare section to use for something else.
