Gotta use the food-grade stuff on kitchen appliances. You wouldn't want it getting hot and dripping into your mixing bowl if it wasn't food-grade. :)

Mike, great video! My mixer has sounded awful for the last few years, but I don't know where to take it in to get it looked at. Plus, not sure I want to drop a bunch of cash on fixing it. This video has given me the confidence to pop it open and take a look myself. Hopeful the damage is minimal and it just need some new grease!! Thanks again!

Thanks! I spent $75 repairing this mixer but, to me, it was worth it since this model retails for $450 new. It's normal for the gears to wear out over time. It's nice to have the option to replace the gears and then the mixer is good as new rather than having to buy a new one. My guess is that the sound you're hearing is the worn gears grinding together. Thanks for the comment, let me know how it goes!

Great videos! Some information about your sourcing of parts would be appreciated. How you found parts diagrams, part numbers, whether you could source online or had to call the manufacturer....etc.

Hi, your video was very helpful. I have quick questions where can I get transmission housing bottom cover? ( sticker type) I ordered metal housing you recommended but doesn’t come with bottom piece so I need it. Thank you
@Mikeattempts
@Mikeattempts 6 күн бұрын
Unless your original gasket is torn, you should be able to reuse it. If you need a new one, here's a link: amzn.to/3yIyDFe

Cool, but I hope that top bearing in the transmission "accidentally" got some grease while assembly.
@Mikeattempts
@Mikeattempts 2 ай бұрын
Yeah, I thought about the same thing while editing the video. There was grease on the end of the shaft, but I should have squired some into the top of the housing.

Hi Mike, it's great video. Where can i order the parts and find part numbers? 😊
@Mikeattempts
@Mikeattempts Жыл бұрын
There should be a sticker on the bottom of your mixer with the exact model number. Now you can find a parts diagram for your model which will include all part numbers. See my video description for the part numbers I used and links to buy 'em. Amazon and eBay are my go-to sources for all replacement parts but there are other such as daytonapplianceparts.com .

There is a lot of play in my worm gear (moves backwards and forwards) which translates to a lot of movement in the planetary. Would that be caused by the teeth being worn?
@Mikeattempts
@Mikeattempts 11 ай бұрын
I'm no pro but, if all of the gear teeth look good and uniform, the bronze bushings on the ends of the worm gear could be worn out or chipped which is allowing the excess movement.

I removed the snap ring (1:45) but I can’t get the beveled gear to budge. Is there something else holding it on? (1:51) I’ve even tried using a screwdriver on her knees to push it up, but there is definitely something mechanical holding it because it requires a lot of force and it’s not moving
@Mikeattempts
@Mikeattempts 2 ай бұрын
Hmmm... the snap ring should be the only thing keeping the bevel gear from sliding up the shaft. You could try holding the mixer rod below still with one hand while grabbing the sides of the gear with a pair of adjustable channel lock pliers to see if you can just get the gear to budge a hair in both directions. That might be enough to free it up so it'll come off. Let me know how it goes!

There's nothing like lubing up the shaft and sliding it up the hole.

I can't remove that pin and you make it look so easy!! I am so frustrated !!!
@Mikeattempts

Try pushing up on the rod where you connect the mixing attachments to be sure the pin isn't pinched against the top of the larger worm follower gear.
@rp.aguilera

@@Mikeattempts I did try that, the pin moves a bit to each side, but it's stuck. i will keep trying tho!

Great video. I was grinding beef and must not have seated the attachment well. The meat grinding attachment flew off, and the shiny silver thing that you stick the attachment in turned so that the opening where you screw in the set screw is no longer aligned with it so now I can’t use any of the attachments. Any thoughts on how to fix?
@Mikeattempts
@Mikeattempts 10 ай бұрын
I'm no pro but, if you take off the top cover, you should be able to pop that collar out. Then you can reinsert it, so the set screw lines up with the hole again.

My stand mixer is making a piping noise can you show what that possible be?
@Mikeattempts
@Mikeattempts 8 ай бұрын
I'm no pro but the gears wear down over time, so the popping sound is probably the teeth slipping.

After removing as much old grease as I could with a chopstick and a wooden grill skewer, I just wiped out the rest with a dry rag.

Mike, I got a new mixer but it stops after few seconds. What might be the issue?
@Mikeattempts
@Mikeattempts Жыл бұрын
Is it brand new? If so, you should call Kitchenaid support ASAP so they can fix or replace it. If it's not brand new, it's hard to know for sure. I'm no pro but maybe it's the switch or possibly even the motor.
