Hi Robyn, Yes it was a recorder. I don't refurbish for a living but I did fix the one I had and made it work properly. I would check out your local electronics store if you need yours repaired or anything like that! Thanks for the comment!

@@Rwinnett2012 ok thank you I'm in california what state are you in seeing you do that gave me hope mine will record then it just stops and sometimes wont let the tray open I'll even turn it off then on hit open and it starts loading the guy who's checking it out said the motors are good no belt issue he cant figure it out I asked him to maybe utube to get some ideas then I googled and you came up I'm proud of you thinking outside the box stepping out and giving it a shot good for you from robyn

@@robynshoffeitt888 thank you! I'm in New England area. I'm not sure what is going on with yours unfortunately. Wish I did! The original DVD drive wouldn't even read the disc for me because it wouldn't seat right. A tiny little tab broke off. Giant pain in the *** diagnosing and trying to repair. In the end, I replaced the DVD drive. That might be an option, if the local person you brought it to wants to do that. You can usually find one with working parts but something broken on eBay. Just be sure to read the description carefully and message with any questions. For parts/repair machines are non-refundable. I hope you get it fixed!
