When it absolutely has to be made more complicated than it needs to be..HWH Edit: as I have stated before in my comments I do all my own maintenance (fleet mechanic over 20 years HVAC,hydraulics,pneumatics,gas/diesel engines and much more) but you my friend are a dynamo..a straight shooter..a stand up guy..dedicated in your craft..you are a rare bird and I would have ZERO worries having you tackle something I am not equipped to handle..I am sure I speak for the rest of us watching you..stand tall for you are very important and appreciated by us living on the move !

I've had a general contractor tell me, "Everything leaks, you can't stop it. The trick is making it leak where you want." Since then, when I do a repair on my TT, I don't try to make it waterproof, I just try to make the water go where I've prepared.

Man that is a lot of work to do that. I wonder how many people do not even think about if you are working on the slide that they should empty it. It probably does not even cross their mind as they have never done it. I found all kinds of things in glove boxes when I had to look for the codes in the glove box. Stay safe and healthy James, excellent video again.

Slideouts = Ongoing Maintenance. If you can't provide the maintenance as an owner, stick with non-slides. Appreciate the insights James!

Slides make RVs so much more roomy and give them that home-like feel when you open opposing slides. But man oh man do they sure open up a whole can of possible problems too. I'm still traveling in a 30ft TT with zero slides. Maintain my 5 yr old roof meticulously and never had a leak anywhere.

As an owner of a 1999 coach with HWH leveling and one slideout, I can tell you that it's worth it to drive to Moscow, Iowa and the HWH Mothership. The service staff there can fix, build, replace, etc. anything they've ever built. We've been there a couple of times and the cost has always been reasonable. And they have electrical hookups in the parking lot so you can some in the night before.

Interesting Video and a Big job for sure! Note to self - take my stuff out before delivering for repair. I have an electric slide out on my 2015 Winnebago Vista and am hoping to see a repair on one of those someday. Part 2 coming up!

Having just dona reno on our 2008 Winnebago Sightseer I can attest to the slides being a pain. I was able to pull out all the old carpet from under the slides. Having the aluminum slide on top of the wood hump on the subfloor was squeeky and would hang up. I used outdoor carpet to recover the hump and all worked out.

I have an 02 Itasca Horizon, owners did something similar, but forgot to remove all the old carpet so the slide wouldn’t stay out. It would come back an inch after an hour. I took out the slide rubber seal and found all the bunched up old carpet. Took it out and it’s working.

If you use a high weight fishing line you can cut right through the so called snot tape.

Thanks great info just purchased a older 1998 sunflyer with a slideout with hydraulic hwh slide dual cyclinder 1 was leaking but worked ordered a new cuclinder from hwh and changed and now new cyclinder wont pull in all the way and acts like doesnt have pull do we need to do something else and we are also looking for new hanger bolts that support boxes below slide out since 1 older ones is broke any info from would greatly appreciate and keep up great videos.Dave n St Louis

Wow. I didn't realize they used hydraulics on RV slides. It seems like the seals/pump held up pretty well assuming that's the first needed repair. That pump noise is epic.

I have a 2005 Winnebago Journey 36G diesel pusher with a CAT C7 350 motor, the video would be very helpful as I have a hydraulic leak coming from under the bedroom slide. I have a 2011 Winnebago Vista. I have the opposite problem... the main room slide out will not come all the way in. The slide is dragging on the floor on one end only, closest to the driver side... Do you have a resolution to somehow lift the slide out enough to clear the floor and retract in?

It has been a while since I took a room out. Now I remember why. They suck.

I wouldn't like dealing with slideouts, period. Just a hassle and one more major and costly thing to break.My GOD, having to remove the fridge, and all other items. What a nightmare!

Like watching Rv repairs. Helps with my own. But my RV dealer Service hourly rate went to $125 hr. Now you said it. How much out of that rate does the tech that’s doing the work gets per hour. I’m thinking dealer has responsibility. Ok So the tech should be making $35 a hr. Is that Close to what you’re getting per hour. I know service $125 you get $25 hourly.

You mentioned $150/hr... that doesn’t seem all that expensive. Especially when compared to diesel mechanics at $250/hr or more.
