THIS NICE MAHOGANY CARD TABLE HAS SOME BAD SCRATCHES ON THE TOP LEAF . I WILL TRY TO FILL THEM IN AND RE-COAT THE FINISH

That was incredible..! Thanks, I really needed that info, it’s so helpful. I have a similar situation with a surface that has some scratches, and even some cigarette burns. I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to get it close to looking new again now. I hope your business is going great.

Very nice table. I have one similar, not as fancy, I haven’t opened it in a while. Now I’m curious. Good place to store cards or whatever inside.

I've been weathering through the Kung Flu by salvaging pieces of furniture tossed out on garbage day and your videos have been not only an inspiration but also profoundly educational... Thanks for Sharing the Video - great information...What would you recommend for a 1960's Teak Office desk to keep the Wood desktop maintained ie the ones with a Leather green inlay ... where my hands are constantly touching ect..Oil or Finish ? seems like a semi- Satin finish on the desk at the moment

He did exactly as I thought: scraping the old varnish, removing the marks from the scratches of the wood (use of paint), a first layer of transparent varnish to disguise the scratches (he used spray varnish, I would use a viscous clear varnish and do a flattening of the varnish with the scratches grooves), to immediately afterwards do the complete varnishing of the wood.

I have a bunch of cat scratches on a table I am trying to get out. I will try that. I saw online people were using hard wax to fill in the cracks. I was going to try both methods and see what blends better.

I have the same situation in a beautiful mid century modern desk, the scratches are not only deep, but wide, as if someone had made them with a key. Do you think the same technique you used here will work? Thanks

try it and see , if not you would have to strip the finish . if the scratches go into the wood you will likely have to strip

paste wax can be used on any finish

the naptha does not do any damage to the finish , some did get underneath , but no harm . i waxed the other surfacers as well

the finish was a lacquer , cannot use shellac over lacquer

Where do you buy Naptha? What is it's qualities. Here in Australia we can buy "Shellite "". a hydrocarbon liquid probably about c8 or c10 . It's sold to use in outdoor stoves for campers. Costs about $3 per litre which is twice the cost of Petrol/gasoline. It is volatile and lèaves no oily residue. Stavros

when spraying a full wet coat of finish , it can 'orange peel ' or look bumpy due to contaminants in the old finish

naptha is very fast evaporating unlike mineral spirits . i just found the acrylic spray works well ,looks nice and matches the sheen of the brushed on polycrylic . lacquer sprays are very similar .
