Our 2013 Tesla Model S 85 with 200k miles has another issue! The rear driver side door window fell down into the door and later the rear door handles quit presenting. I found a few blown 5 amp fuse in one of the two fuse boxes under the hood. They are located under the plastic panel between the frunk and the windshield. I installed a new fuse and it immediately blew, indicating a dead short. I suspected the falling window done some damage to the wiring inside the door.
But after taking the interior door panel off, it all looked different then I expected. I expected the window to be detached from the regulator and having to just re-attach it, locate the bad wiring and repair it. Not so. The glass is attached to the regulator but I found some cables and a broken plastic guide. Also I did not see any obvious damage to the wiring. The door handle issue will most likely need more diagnostic.
In this video I will remove the regulator and repair it. The door handle issue will be a separate video later. For Part 1, the diagnostics and removal, click link: • Tesla Model S rear doo...

Greetings from Ukraine. Thanks for the detailed video, thanks to this I learned how to assemble this mechanism almost with my eyes closed))). I will add my comment. After the window regulator broke, I tried to make an appointment for repairs at a local service, to buy it from them and they replaced this mechanism for me, but the queue was two weeks. So I decided to do it myself. After removing the window regulator, a broken plastic bushing and a broken cable were discovered. Twisting the tube in my hands, I soldered the same one from two copper tubes with a diameter of 5 and 6 mm. I found a cable of the same diameter (1.5 mm) in a motorcycle shop. It was difficult to determine the length of the original cable because it was twisted into spaghetti. But I took it with a margin in length. Assembled and installed the mechanism on the car - the glass went up and down, but stuck in the lower position. Took it apart, shortened the cable - and stopped wedging. I did it! But the joy was enough for 10 days - then the tip of the cable, which I made by soldering a piece of copper tube, broke off, and this soldering turned out to be weak. After surfing KZfaq, I learned how to make cable ends that do not break off, and after another disassembly-assembly (for the seventh time) I finally got lucky)))

Wow 😮, 👏 great job. I glad this video helped you to get it done. That is the intention of my DIY videos. So people can see that they can even repair a Tesla. Obviously you’re very handy, maybe even a mechanic. Congrats on your repair. Hope things are going well for you. Great job!👏👍👍

This video single handedly saved Christmas. I got home from church and found my window issues went from bad to catastrophic as my window dropped into the door, a cable came loose, and it's like 11F degrees out. Watching you helped me repair my regulator, even if it's just to hold off til I can get a brand new one, but it seems to be running smoothly now. (The cable reel revealed that my wire was overlapping and off track from the damn factory, so it's just been eroding away the innards of the casing since day 1; surprised it's made it this long.) Anyway, got it all together and working as it should, and I wanted to come here to push the algorithm to send this off to others and specially say thank you for posting it. I needed several extra hands too, so seeing all your steps along the process helped me beyond measure. Thank you!

Hi Logan, thank you. I’m glad my video helped. Mine is still working fine. I think when the windows freeze and you are trying to open the door they break or the cable pops off as it pulls the cable on one side tight it loosens up on the other side and pops off. I still have that broken part in there and it still works. Thank you so much for your comment. Happy Holidays!

The key to getting the cable back on the pulleys is to use a pair of needle nose pliers. You almost had it when you had the cable resting on the metal hubs. All you had to do was insert one side of the needle nose pliers into the center of the metal hub, and the other and into the hole on the white plastic pulley. Rotating it so the guide on the white pulley will push the cable into the main grove of the pulley is all it took. You have to hold the needle nose in extremely tight, but it does work.

👍I had the needle nose pliers out at some point, but did not have enough hands to hold the regulator and the pliers.😂 Maybe I get to try again soon since it is a somewhat common problem. Thank You for the info, and thank you for watching.😃👍

Hello mate, thanks a lot for such video! Also had my regulator on driver's door broken, it happened just last day on my vacation in Italy :D The window was stucked in lower position able to hit only approx 5cm upwards and then it went back completely low. Luckily after some hassle and few tries I was able to pull it completely back up (would be a real problem since we were 1000km far from home with two small children). As I'd like also to repair my unit I have already contacted Gruber asking for the quote for ferrules (barrels), but the shipping of +-60USD to EU is way too high for me. Therefore I plan to disassemble the unit and look what is broken or what has blocked the mechanism. I'll also measure the ferrule dimensions and try to get it manufactured. I'm quite surprised you didn't buy those ferrules as for you it's gonna be cheap and reliable solution. Does it still hold for you, all ok so far even with broken ferrule? Thanks for your response in advance!

Hi, After that repair we put on about 15,000 miles (24'000 Km) in a about a year and then it broke again. This time the ferrule was actually broken in a way it affected the function. In this video it's broken apart but does not really affect the function. I will have a video in the near future with some info on the second time when it really broke. Wow, they ask an arm and a leg to ship those ferrules to you. Four of those can go into a padded envelope and be shipped for less than $20 to Europe. I did not have time to order and wait to get new ferrules from them and my labor is cheap😂. I'm sure you can find someone with a lathe that can make you these relatively cheap. There simple to make, just requires a round bar of aluminum and a lathe. I actually took the measurements too and plan on having some made one day. If for some reason you can't get any made contact me on our facebook, link in description, maybe you can get them shipped here from Gruber and I send them to you. Last small package to Europe, about that size, was $16. Thank you for sharing👍. If you get some made please update me on the cost and how it worked.

@@RMTFamily Don't know what happened, but I have replied and everything has disappeared.. So once again, thanks a lot for your reply, I really appreciate it. So if your mechanism broke once again, then it probably doesn't make sense for me to try to fix it without parts. I'd just gather info about what's wrong with it but I'm pretty sure it's just the ferrule and not the wheels or something else. And thanks a lot for your kindness and willingness to send me it for so cheap! It's clear, Gruber company needs to generate money also from the shipping itself, for me it means also added VAT from the shipping fee, which is unacceptable for me. I don't have lathe, but one my friend (also Tesla MS 85 owner) has it and is also really happy if he can create something on it :D So if you would create some simple drawing with dimensions and send it to my mail (r.placer@volny.cz), that would be great!! That would me mi first choice, if it will fail for any reason, than I'd be glad to ask you to send it if possible and of course with payment in advance ;) Really great to hear from such tinkerer as I am :D Wish you luck!

Any chance you would know the part number for the screw with white cap at 2:48 minute mark in the video. My window shattered without cause and when I opening the door trim, i didnt see that screw in the regulator clamp.....
@RMTFamily
@RMTFamily Жыл бұрын
No. As far as I can tell the window regulator is only sold as a complete piece. The Tesla parts catalog does not show individual pieces of the regulator. You may have to buy a complete regulator and replace the whole thing.

@@parwindersingh4104 This screw with white cap is a top stop adjuster. If it’s not there I suspect the plastic piece is broken too, as it is screwed into it. These are usually sold as part of the regulator. There is one on eBay that may work for you. www.ebay.com/itm/155173270656

@@RMTFamily Thank you so much for taking time and looking into it!! I inspected that plastic piece and didn't find any cracks or sign of damage. Also checked to see if there are any imprints on the plastic piece where the screw was resting on and didn't find that either. Tesla confirmed that there are no previous service records on the car for the window or regulator. I ordered a regulator from amazon and that one didn't have that screw either.....didnt see one on other regulators either that were listed online. Kinda tempted to pop open the other door and see if that has one...

I assume you are talking about the whole window regulator? The regulator can be purchased from Tesla over the counter. The P/N I found in the Tesla EPC is 6006377-00-L for the right rear regulator. I used that number in a search engine and got a listing on ebay for a used regulator with motor, www.ebay.com/itm/364477293410 There are many more similar listings on ebay. If the ferrule only has failed you could order it from Gruber Motors. Not necessarily cheap after adding shipping, but is the only option I know of if you want to purchase just the ferrule. grubermotors.com/product/window-regulator-repair/ If you don't have access to Tesla's parts catalog and service manual watch this video on how to get free access kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bsphiLyCxN-zYmw.html

No wonder you can't find one. There are some in Europe but looks like a hard find in North America. This is the Tesla P/N 6006334-00-L I found in the catalog. Did you check with Tesla yet? If you have a service center nearby just stop in. If you are far away from a service center you can work it thru the Tesla App under Service. I have done that before. It takes a little patience but you can get parts price and availability thru the app and possibly even have a mobile tech drop it off at your place. What failed on the regulator?
